  1. During this spell of heavy rain my LS400 mkIV has developed an electrical fault. I noticed a drip from the roof above the steering wheel. The Alarm would sound for no apparent reason. The remote key system failed a couple of weeks ago, so I've been locking it manually. However, it now appears that the ignition remains on even after removing the key. Initially all the dash lights would flicker, but now they stay solidly ON. The roof, and the windows will open without the key in the ignition. Obviously this has run down the battery, and the 6 minute jump wont reset the immobiliser..... Anyone have any suggestions? heres hoping!
  2. I too replaced the rubber part only... from my local Toyota dealer. Not expensive as I recall and easy to fit. Never had any squealing or scraping.
  3. Is this an import? Re-registered? Ad says 2000, and 1996..... Misleading wot!
  4. Some nice, reasonably priced breakers parts from a 97 "R" reg LS400 on Oboy here
  5. Gulp! 20% difference .... Tank size gives no likely answer - 85 Litre Tank = 18.69 UK or 22.45 US Gallons This US fuel economy website suggests a 91 LS400 consumption as City 16 Highway 21, so combined 18. I have had mine as high as 33 from my Mk IV, but driving local speedbumps gets it down to averaging 24-25 ish so I think we can safely say that it displays UK Gallon consumption. The computer probably works in Litres per Gallon and then converts to Mpg, and Lexus have differing software for the different sales regions. The further clue that this may be the case is in the SatNav software clock setting. Giving options as BST and GB/Continent time setting suggest these are region specific units. Phew! Panic over......
  6. It helps that the old Lexus cassette player is a Nakamichi - Absolutely the top manufacturer of tape decks.
  7. I found my instruction booklets in the case which is often undiscovered in the front lower section of the passenger seat. Have you looked there?
  8. After 2 and a half years ownership, 27,000 miles, one service, I had a complete failure. After leaving her in a car park for an hour I returned to find a permanent brake warning light. I remember reading about brake sensor failure. Took it into the Toyota dealer at Sandhurst. Result - New N/S rear bulb. £3.42 Fitted (yes fitted) Unbelievable Motoring :P
  9. More information is required Thao. What type of key/immobiliser do you have? How do you know it's not a Master key? Remember it isn't possible to "make" a master key, only an expensive trip to a Lexus dealer will resolve this one.... Good Luck
  10. Does the used key you bought from the US have a triangle detent in the "Unlock" section, a Dot in Lock and a white car/boot symbol in the third. The ones without the triangle are more common, but do not operate the LS400. You can buy blank Denso keys from Ebay for around a fiver, and have them cut by any reasonable security locksmith. (I would suggest avoiding the Cobblers type of key cutting service though). I did this myself, and discovered the triangle after 2 aborted attempts..... I then bought a 2nd hand key (with triangle) and transferred the inner Denso electronic pack to one of the earlier cut key fobs, and hey presto! A breaker may have an "old" key with triangle (You only need the innards). Once you have this done, search here for "key programming" or "pedal dance". Picture of Denso 12459 best wishes

  12. Just Google for an audio & visual brand that epitomizes uncompromising quality and performance. Anyone alive in the 70's and 80's will know this reputation for very high quality audio cassette decks.

  14. This page tells you all you need to know. http://www.lexusnavigation.eu/navigen.html I think you will be Gen 2/3 best wishes
  15. Can you be a bit more specific Steve? Mine are quite "tired". The Mrs seems always to twist the belt when she unplugs and already the metal tongue has pierced the leather panel of the passenger door, as it is left dangling as she slams the door closed! Did you simply pull the webbing out all the way and actually silicon spray the webbing? Both sides?
  16. Perhaps bazgtr means that the Lexus £170 package gives 2 masters of the later Denso 3 button remote key, and the chip ensures that the 3rd button actually opens the boot.
  17. Pete No answer is not disinterest, it's a grey area I think. My 00 LS has nothing fitted, no sensors nor push-outs, nada I think yours must be fitted after market. They will obviously get power from the reversing light and the buzzer will beep with proximity. Once you select out of reverse the power stops. The only thing to do is see if the capsules are there and if you can find the electronics attached to a reversing light. If you find none, then you can get a cheap kit from Ebay, something I fancied doing, but I would need to drill the bumpers, something I don't have much confidence in doing! At least the hard bit for you may be done already...
  18. I wanted to ask if anyone has experience of this problem. I work overseas occasionally, and the last few time I have first driven the car on return it feels like an awful lot of revs are required to get the thing rolling. I know it's not a slipping clutch but that is a reasonable comparison. I've noticed say 2000rpm to get the car up to 5mph. It occurs only for the first quarter mile or so, but I wonder if it maybe thin gearbox oil or transmission fluid?
  19. Bump Does anyone have any experience in dismantling the drivers wing mirror, and if so, is there a cog or something in there that might have lost a tooth? Any help appreciated, it's the only thing wrong!
  20. My other car is a Golf VR6 which has a Thatcham Scorpion fitted. This battery runs flat often and I always have to reset the alarm when re-connecting. You must always have the drivers door open when you re-connect, or when jump-starting. I read somewhere on the forum, that you should remove the battery, and hold down both buttons for a minute, to loose any residual power in the capacitors, this will totally reset the fob. I recall once in Sutton / Cheam area that my remote was being blasted out by a local transmitter. I had to push the car round the corner (and behind a large building) before the immobiliser would allow me to open / start the car without the siren! Roys first post suggests that the car is in the "normal" place, somewhere the system has operated before without problem. Is this true? Have any new dishes, or aerials been erected recently nearby? best wishes
  21. Try messaging the breakers of LS400's on Ebay They often have keys (of all Mk's and ages) for £20-30. Just the pedal dance then to program it.
