  1. It may just be something that got slightly bent on the braking system catching on the wheel or the disc. If you can work out which side it is just jack the car up and spin the wheel and you should hear it. I had the same thing when I changed my discs, the bracket that holds the wear sensor bent slightly and catches the wheel when I corner, just needed bending back.
  2. Don't know about the IS but the LS has heat shields between the body and the exhaust, the're known to come loose and rattle. Does the sound like something dragging increase with speed?
  3. And mine, it just started today, very faint but it's there, although it did seem to come suddenly, it wasn't there this morning but it's there this afternoon.
  4. You only need to top up at the expansion tank, and don't overfill or there won't be anywhere for the hot water to go when it expands (except out of places where it's not meant to go!)
  5. Hi Jason, welcome to LOC. Have you checked to see if the radiator fan kicks in when the engine is hot? A friend of mine bought a car recently and found that the wheels needed balancing, but after having it done it made no difference. He took it somewhere else where they checked the tyres and found the pressure to be low. They inflated them and the problem went so it's worth just checking they've put the right pressure in first (always best to try the easy things first) I certainly wouldn't want to do 100 miles until I've sorted the problem. Hopefully others will come up with some ideas. Phil
  6. Certainly if I had "Green stuff" around my battery it would be the first thing I'd check. A bad connection may not affect lights, but it's a different story when it comes to the draw on a battery when the engine is cranked over. Let us know how you get on, always good to hear the results!
  7. Just west of Brighton, near Shoreham Welcome. I'm a Worthing man so we're almost neighbours!!
  8. If it was me I wouldn't be prepared to wait a few months. There's obviously something very wrong and its not going to get better. Is the car or just the transmission under warranty? Phil
  9. Try again! Hi Pete, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. I seem to remember reading that the LS made between 93 & 94 were the most reliable of them all.
  10. I asked a similar question last December: Supermarket petrol=emissions failure? You may find it interesting to read some of the comments. From what I understand the jury is still well and truly out! Although those with Bio Chemical knowledge seem to think its not a problem.
  11. I always park as far away from the entrance as possible but often find someone's park a beat up Transit or similar close to me, obviously thinking it's amusing. On the insurance note, mine's a 93LS and I get it covered on a classic car policy. If you listen to the advice given by Martin Lewis (The Money Saving Expert) he'll tell you that often when you ask for a quote for 3rd party only it will be more than fully comp, something to do with them considering you a bigger risk. It's worth a look at this website. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/compare-cheap-car-insurance
  12. Thanks. BTW, what would be the reason for changing the parking brake shoes? Surely they don't wear out. I don't think I've applied my foot brake more than a handful of times in over 3 years. Maybe I should apply it more often to keep it from seizing? The parking brake shoes have been known to break-up. Also, the parking brake is relatively naff. With a big V8, you'd hardly notice if it was on esp. if the warning light is out. Thanks all. I guess I just check them when I replace the discs, and if they look OK, they stay where they are. :)

  14. I assume from what you say it's under warranty? If so take it back, if it doesn't feel right then it almost certainly isn't. Phil
  15. Hi Chris, and welcome. The auto box on my ageing LS400 is so seamless it's not always possible to know if its changed gear, I would assume it's the same with the 430. Intersting to know what 430 owners say but it doesn't sound right. What's the mileage and year? Phil
  16. Hi there and welcome. Your impulsive purchase makes my impulsive purchase today of a triple Bounty bar seem quite tame! Can't help with the iPhone thing as they hadn't been invented when my car was made, but I'm sure someone will come up with the info. Enjoy your impulsive purchase!
  17. Have a look here http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/brake/rbrotor.html Brilliant, thanks Steve you're a star!
  18. Just replaced my front discs and pads, as anyone who's done this on an early LS will know, it's very easy, both sides took just over an hour and a half. When I checked the rear discs they looked a bit naff. Are they as easy as the fronts or does it involve taking the hub off etc? Ta Phil
  19. Now now gentlemen, I understand what's being said here and it can come across that way sometimes. I think the problem with written messages is that we intepret the way we think it's said and we're often wrong. Let's remember we're all in this to help each other. And just by saying that I've gone off topic!!
  20. Just re posting, one of you must know about this..I decided at long last to check my pollen filter. I took off the passenger side kick plate, found the two wing nuts , took the cover off but the only thing inside was..well, pollen (and loads of other vegetation, see photo) I'm assuming I've taken off the pollen filter cover (again see photo) and that someone has removed the filter for some reason. Does that sound about right?
  21. If I was changing my plugs I would certainly be changing HT leads at the same time if they haven't been done in ages.
