  1. It recieves the Digital signal through the arial you stick to the windscreen (Not very intrusive visualy) and then transmits to the car arial. I am very sceptical about gadgets, I think it stems from my childhood trips to the Ideal Home Exhibition and my Mum & Dad would by all thos gadgets that only ever worked for the demonstrator at the show, but this is brilliant. I spend alot of time listining to Talk Sport which is MW and is a terrible signal especialy at night but this brings it to you in crystal clearness. I have also found Jazz FM National again, a station that I could never get on the incar radio. Mike Things were going OK until you mentioned Jazz, I thought only VW Golf drivers liked it! :winky:
  2. Mine is the same age as yours (although 102,000 miles younger) and last week was my 4th MOT without an advisory, although the tester did say the rear springs were very corroded. Before I bought mine I borrowed a friends 92 BMW 7 series..it didn't come close. Every time I think of selling someone seems to make a positive comment that makes me change my mind. In fact it happened this evening, I was picking up a takeaway in the town centre and a couple of passers by pointed to it and said "There's a Lexus" It's because it still looks good regardless of age, a timeless classic! Phil
  3. She looks beautiful. Dont see that colour often. Enjoy Mike That's what I was going to say, in fact I don't think I've ever seen that colour..looks great!
  4. Hi The learning curve for me on the ls400 as been 16 years and I have the no 97 car supplied back in 1990 It was mint when I bought it for 19k when it was six years old with 50k on the clock. The one previous owner only sold it because the farm he bought was a awful lane access and he could'nt bear to take the car along it.Now considering the car was 37k new back in 1990 half the retail price after six years seems a lot but bearing in mind there was'nt a lot of second hand stock about then it was par for the course. It as been the best money I have ever spent on a car and the day I bought it I said to my wife do you like it? Yes she said, Good I replied and tounge in cheek I said it's the last car I will ever buy. And sixteen years later I still believe that apart from the obvious, write off ,etc I have no reason to think that this car will fail me in the long term. I look at the later models and the ls430 and apart from more gizmos and a bit more power it is the same car although having driven a friends 430 the ls400 as a softer less road feel experience. A mechanic friend who helps with the big maintainence jobs summed it up.You know this car as well as yourself and to that end you only worry when it goes wrong not when is it going to go wrong . Remember what the President of Toyota said to his engineers on the initail brief of the birth of the LS400. "Go and build the best car in the world" Nuff said. Well said!
  5. I resemble that remark. No I keep to the speed limits these days as I have had a clean licence now for 3 years and before that was when I probobly got my licence in the first place but I hate dawdling as much as the next person. We should have minimum speeds like the States have as well as the upper limit. When I photographed the car the thought passed through my head should I remove the hat. Mike Hat or no hat the car looks great, I really like the colour. I can't help noticeing all the tombstones are leaning over for a better look! Wonder what else I can spot...
  6. Very nice, but I hope that hat on the back shelf doesn't mean you do 30mph in a 50 limit!!
  7. Cheers Steve, I'll email if that's OK. If I try something like photobucket it's bound to go wrong! Phil
  8. Hi Steve with TSBC. There are two pieces but both the same, although both pieces are constructed with a thin and a thick paper filter. How do I add a photo? I've done it before but there doesn't seem to be an attachment icon. There is of course the possibility I've got the wrong one but I gave them the reg number.
  9. Finally got around to buying a pollen filter but because the old one was missing I can't for the life of me work out how it goes, especially as it's in two pieces and the two pieces are identical, any ideas? Steve with the slightly bent Celsior will know!! I was hoping to include a photo but for some reason I can't work out how to do that either this time. How do you add an attachment? Cheers Phil
  10. Hi Chris, Welcome to LOC, I'm sure someone will come up with the info. Phil
  11. Had a look at your website and have made a substantial donation via your own PalPay link. My main concern re your magnet idea is that if a trolley rolled down hill at speed in a crowded carpark the reaction of opposite poles may just turn the carpark into one enormous pinball table!
  12. Hi I had to change my pulley and its a normal thread. It will be hard to remove, search the forum for more info. Regards I recently changed the crankshaft pulley on my Vauxhall. The bolt is a stretch bolt and unbelievably tight, even with a 4' tube on the socket I couldn't budge it. Fortunately I was able to drive it 50 yards to a guy with a decent impact gun, he had the old one off and the new one on in 10 mins, I tried for 2 hours! What you need is one of these, Sealey Tools Impact Bar Wrench 550mm 1/2”Sq Drive VS786, its the only thing to touch it and you won't need to remove the radiator. There are lots of videos on utube showing how to get one off, but some methods are downright dangerous, like using the starter motor. I even tried the starter motor trick, didn't work but it certainly made me sweat! One of the problems I had was jamming the engine, with the impact gun it didn't need it.

  14. Stick them on with superglue, it means you'll never be able to check your tyre pressures for the life of the tyres, and you'll run the risk of a serious accident, but you'll have the satisfaction of keeping your valve caps! We used to live on a bendy country road so we put a mirror on the verge, someone even had that away, and it was only an old dressing table mirror!
  15. For the 4th year running an MOT pass without an advisory. What now, do I keep the car or is it time to sell? Talk me out of the second option please! Phil
  16. There could be various reasons for this but in my experience the sunroof drain holes would be the first to investigate. I used a thick nylon line with a tiny ball on the end, I think it's for getting electrical cables through walls etc. Phil
  17. Unlucky with that one. I was surprised that it made that much, I assumed that if I sold mine I'd be looking at £500 or so. MOT on Thursday, I thought I'd do it a few weeks early before I tax it and renew the insurance...just in case!
  18. Very interesting. On a day to day basis I rarely see an LS but I see a fair amout of Merc S500's etc. Like someone said fairly recently, what do you replace it with, a GS maybe? quite a few of them around it seems.
  19. When you say your mind began to downsize....bet you couldn't do it! No offence to IS drivers but it doesn't have that classic look.
  20. Got my renewal from Swift for my Vectra £193 fully comp + NCBP. Same company on a comparison site £285! how does that work?
  21. Welcome to LOC. Reading your post It sounds like you've already talked yourself into an LS! I can't comment on the GS but I suppose the best way is to drive both and see which hits the spot for you. It's really down to personal preference. For me it would be very hard to find a car that would come close to the LS, just take your time, and let us know how you get on (with photos) PS Thanks for sending the rain over from the Emerald Isle, saves getting the hose out! :luck: Phil
  22. That actually looks quite nice, although so did the other one you looked at in the photos. A long way from Derbyshire though. Just a personal thing, I've never thought the LS looks good with low profile tyres. Be great to have a donor car wouldn't it?
  23. Hi Mike, I have to say that in 4 years I've not needed a manual, all the info has come from this forum! I see you've got a tractor, is that for when there's a strike of some kind?!! Phil
