  1. Sounds simple, but I'll give it a try and monitor them. Over the past few years I have filled my tyres using nitrogen and one thing I have noticed is that they lose no or very little pressure !!! Cheers
  2. Today, I have just ordered two new front tyres for my RX300. The outer edges have worn very badly on both tyres, but the rest of the front tyres have worn evenly and still have very good tread. Over the years I have had Lexus do the Geometry (twice), I have also had the tracking, alignment and balancing done and check the tyre pressures frequently, but I still get this problem. Before I get my two new tyres fitted, I would like to look at any other possible causes (if any). Can anyone give me some sensible suggestions for the garage to check (in addition to possibly having some or all of the above done....AGAIN !!!) Thanks in advance for any advice. Bobby
  3. I have still yet to be convinced of any LPG conversion !!! If you just do the plain simple maths of how much it will cost for the install and then any further LPG annual servicing (on top of your existing usual servicing costs) and then possible higher car insurance... how many times could you fill your car up using all that money before you are back in the black and out of the red !!!!! Possibly could be worth it if you are going to hold on to the car until you die and you certainly dont get your money back come time to resell, if anything, LPG puts some people off. Sorry, just not for me !!!!
  4. There are loads of options out there to be able to do this (ebay is one of them) or any car security installation company. However, it will be a seperate remote device from your current car remote control. I spent many years in Ottawa where it gets as cold as minus 30 !!! and everyone I knew that had a decent car could do this with their cars. Production cars over there come out of the factory with this option fitted. There is even a iphone app for Viper car security systems which you can turn on the cars engine and control the heater settings from you iphone !!!! Not sure how much you would have to satisfy your car insurance company if you have such a device fitted...I assume that it would start the car, but if someone smashed the window and climbed into the car, they would not be able to drive off without the actual key in the ignition !!
  5. I have also heard of "various" solutions and causes, including the one you have mentioned, but now that I have heard that this method has worked for you, I am more than willing to give it a go for the sake of a piece of rubber !!! By the way, thinking about it, I to have not heard the usual "whooshing" noise when undoing the filler cap !! Cheers.
  6. My RX has the semi automatic, so that you can take it out of automatic mode and go up and down the gears manually using the gear stick, I've never heard of a manual RX ever !!!! (there are a lot of people out there who own a RX and do not realise you can use the gear box manually !!).
  7. Last year in my RX300, I waded slowly and in first gear through water that came up to the door mouldings about a quarter of the way up the car door ( must have been about 30 seconds)...but felt like an eternity and I was bricking it !!! but all went well and no problems at all. I would not like to do that frequently, but it was nice to see everyone else doing a u turn and watching me get merrily on my way home , if you attempt this, be sure to go into manual gear mode and STAY in one gear and do not let the gears change or the water will flood into the exhaust pipe !!
  8. Don't even attempt it, your car is still within warranty, take it to a main dealer to sort out. If you "meddle" with it and then take it in, they may say that the warranty is void. Play safe and take it to a dealer.
  9. Hello, I had my RX300 2003 reg cleaned using the Terraclean system about 2k ago (it's still relatively new in the UK, but has been in the US for ages). After having it done, the sound from the exhaust was far better sounding and the car "seemed" to perform a little better (could have been my imagination ), as far as MPG, not noticed anything at all. But, after having this done, about a week later my engine and VSC light came on. This could have been a coincidence and there is no proof that it was Terraclean that caused them to come on. I spoke to the guy in charge at Terraclean UK and one of their Technicians actually took the time to call me and discuss it. I had it done at Grease Junkies in Bracknell who is owned by Ed China from Wheeler Dealers. If you contact Terraclean or look at their UK website, they will give you details of a authorised garage near you who has the system. Cost about £100. Some people also say that it's not worth getting this done unless your car has done a fair few miles (mine has done 100k). In the end, I know that I will have to get it sorted properly, which means the sensors or the cat £££££££££££££ Good luck. In regards to my engine light and VSC light, I am going to have a punt at Cataclean, you never know, it may work !!!
  10. Hello, Just been talking via email to the people at www.lexus-mapupdates.eu in regards to seeing if it is worth me updating my map discs for my RX300 (sept 2003). I currently have 08927-00957 (86271-70V993) 2010-2011 Ver.1 and I enquired to what (if any) updates I could change up to. What I was really after was the 2012/2013 discs as and when they became available...but never will !! They have said that I could update to PZ445-X01EU-11 which according to them is the last and final update for my Generation of car. I am just wondering if it is worth shelling out for this update as one can never tell what really has been updated on the newer disc !! So, not really a question, just passing some info onto you. Cheers
  11. I would expect that the fading/dimming of the lights will not work, which is a shame. I changed my stock indicator bulbs for LED replacements (also had to change the indicator relay to stop them flashing too quickly), they worked a treat, downside though, was that when I turned the alarm on and off, the indicator lights did not flash and I like this option. It's something to do with LED bulbs not pulling as much power as normal bulbs (I think). If anyone want these LED bulbs and the relay, I am sure we can come to an arrangement !!
  12. In regards to front and rear parking sensors, here is my ten cents worth on this topic. Even though your Lexus has a rear view camera, if you have spent all that hard earned dosh on a prestige car, then I think that they are well worth it. I for one have always had front and rear sensors on my RX, along with having the rear camera. It is really personal choice. The price quoted by the Lexus dealer is about right. I have been toying over the idea (for ages now !!) of trading in my RX300 for a RX400h, so I asked a local company to me, John Klies in Reading who do everything and anything to cars for a quote. For 4 rear and 4 front surface mounted (the ones that stick out a bit) sensors with canbus, it would cost £549 fully fitted, they also do flush mounted ones which look like production line sensors, they take a little more skill to fit, these cost £795 fully fitted and the front sensors are speed sensative, none of this seperate switch rubbish to turn them on and off. They also come with a front and rear screen indicator for extra piece of mind, but if you don't need these, then just tell them not to fit them. Again, I have this option and is useful to me !!!...again, it's all down to personal choice and of course, if you have the spare cash !!! I would have thought that Lexus would have included these as standard in such a car, at least from the RX400h onwards.
  13. For a 2009 car and a Lexus !!! I expect far better. Just be sure to take it to the dealer when it is at its worst state i.e early in the morning and not mid afternoon when some of the condensation may have dried out a bit. I have a 2003 RX300 and no sign of condensation whatsoever, so it's obviously faulty. Don't settle for anything less than a brand new replacement.
  14. If its a proper Lexus dealer warranty, then I would say yes...if it's not, still take it in and kick up a fuss, they will change it !!! Good luck.
  15. Sorry, I should have used the search function....being lazy. I have found the info I require (I don't know how to retract/cancel a post !!) Hello, Just a quick question please.... Can anyone tell me or narrow down the year when some of the 400h's had inverter issues ? And also, the ones that had the issue, where they fixed under warranty and should there be paper work from a Lexus Dealer stating that this was done ? Was there also a similar issue with the electric batteries ? Basically, should I steer clear of any I come across that fall into the above two catergories ? Thanks Bobby
  16. Does anyone think that this level of service (or lack of) from Lexus Reading is connected to Octogan (at both Reading and Bracknell) being taken over by the motor group Jemco ? I know from years of experience from Lexus Bracknell, they were excellent. I only went to Lexus Reading a couple of times, they were not as good as Lexus Bracknell. We all know what happens with "takeovers"......redundancies...cut backs etc etc. I am still looking for the right 400h and I think I will give Lexus Guildford a try, albeit a lot further.
  17. I always get mine from http://www.lexus-mapupdates.eu/ But you can try ebay, as when I upgrade, I always sell my old set on and get some cash back. Just MAKE sure they are the correct discs. The link I have given you should give you the exact part numbers for the new discs, but you will have to enter the part number which is on your current discs. Welcome to LOC.
  18. Plenty on ebay for sale and some of the photos show the connections. It may just be a straight swap. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CCD-Car-Rear-View-Reversing-Parking-Backup-Camera-LEXUS-RX300-RX-300-1998-2003-/251035409833?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item3a72e05da9
  19. You do know that you can get a whole exhaust system designed and fitted by longlife.co.uk for far less than that. They made me a twin exhaust system for my RX300 many years ago. You can even chose how it sounds etc. Try them for a quote.
  20. Yes, pop into Lexus for a laugh...they will probably insist that you by a whole door including all the inside electrics etc :shruriken:
  21. Ok, I won't pretend that I know what I am talking about !!! It obviously sounds like these warning lights are coming on when there is absolutely nothing wrong. So, does anyone know if the actual sensors can be easily located and cleaned....or something ?? and would this stop the warning lights coming on and erradicate the faults on the fault reader ? I am certainly not going to replace them. Cheers Bobby
  22. Cheers Daniel, couldnt get your link to work, but I have found it on the Lexus Used Car search and its also on Autotrader along with another white one priced at £13k. £13k is a bit too low for what I want and £20k is a smidge over my budget, which is a bummer, because the £20k one has the ivory leather and most, if not all white ones I have come across has a black interior, which I don't like. Ideally, if it had front and rear parking sensors and a fitted towbar, it would be exactly what I want. Call me fussy and a pain in the a**. But I intend to hold onto this for a good few years, a bit like my current RX300, which has served me well. Swindon is only three junctions down the M4 from me, so I may DRAG the wife out for a shopping trip to Swindon and stumble across the Lexus dealer !! Cheers again for the heads up.
  23. I have had a RX300 almost since new and not once have I needed to top up my oil, in fact anything. As long as a car is serviced properly, the only thing that should require opening the bonnet, is to top up the windscreen fluid !! If I had a 400h (especially a youngish car like yours) and needed to top up the oil, I would be concerned !!!
  24. There are plenty out there, especially on ebay. I got mine from www.bullbars.nl in Holland, due to the fact that I wanted thick tubular side bars (with no step inserts) so that they are in proportion to the car (not sure if they are still trading, as their website does not come up). I did not require to get a set that helped people into the car, mine are totally for the protection which I mentioned earlier. But I must say, the side steps mentioned in this thread look quite good. Depends what you want I suppose. !!
  25. I have side bars fitted on my RX300. I must admit, they are not the prettiest of things to put on a Lexus, but these have saved me £100's if not £1000's in repairing dents and dings from those inconsiderate sods in car parks who swing their doors open without thinking of the car next to them. As you said, each to their own !!! Cheers PS: if and when I upgrade to a RX400h, I will be transferring them over, as they fit both the 300 and 400h
