  1. Hi Dale V This issue was covered recently by myself and another Member in the LS400 general discussion section under "strut rods and bushes" I fitted the bushings to the lower arm and the trailing arm hubside on my Mark 1 and they are perfect replacements with no hassles, unfortunatly the other member had issues because the rear suspension was changed on the Models produced after 94. I cannot comment further on the issues as I did not have them ,but I think if you read the post and check out the workshop tip that accompanies the post it might help you to make a decision. Thankyou very much :) so from that rear it looks like for my mk3 I need the ASUS 583 bushing and then cut down the inner sleeve
  2. From here: http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/suspension/rcabushings.html it shows the bushings are marked from 90-99 so found the same bushings on sale here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5056-LS400-Rear-Trailing-Arm-Bushing-89-00-/180706385202?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a12f09d32 which indicates the mk1/2/3/4 bushing is the same, might buy these, unless anyone knows who sells similar in the uk?
  3. Hi chaps, the rear trailing arm bush as shown in the pic is worn on my 1996 (mk3) ls400, does anyone know where I can buy one from? I can find bushings for the mk1/2 but cant find the mk3 bushings... unless anyone in the know can tell me that the earlier bushings will fit the bush in the hub is fine, its just the bush at the chassis end, where the metal insert has seized to the bollt and caused the rubber bush to tear Regards
  4. Just looks like a UK car that was registered late, and so assigned in the year it was registered.... it happens now and again.... I've seen many car like this, one example: a 1980's Maestro's registered as year 2000 x-reg
  5. im gunna play that maths game, just for you lol.... So for current fuel prices at £1.34 a litre x 1/3 of a tank (28.3litre) (85litre tank, from bone dry) 1.34*28.3= 37.92 £37.92 for a genuine 1/3rd of a tank, so it is very plausable that from bone dry to the empty/bottom line there is £7.92 (5.9litres) in there, then from the bottom line to 1/3rd showing on the guage there is £30's (22.3 litres) worth :) 1.34*85 = £113.76 (full tank) so I wasnt far out when I said I filled up with £110 to the brim, by that you can also see how low I am running the tank down if I managed to put £110's worth in!!! ....roughly 2.8 litres of remaining fuel
  6. Ditto :) well Yes I have, I stated if i fill up from the bottom line on the guage with £30 I get a 1/3rd showing on the tank, yet you have gone and done calculations from a completely full 85 litre tank and divided it by 3, which by doing that at empty the guage would read below the bottom line and at full read above the top line. I never stated I could fill up from completely bone dry empty with £30 and id be a 1/3rd full, I said from the bottom line on the guage!
  7. man, such hard work, but you would know what the guage shows, I mean you can see it in your LS400 :) oh thats right you dont have one, so how the hell can you tell me what my tank is showing at £30 of a fill from the bottom line on the guage? you CANT :) and from your calculations above, you have not listened one bit to what I said in my 2nd and 4th post * read the parts highlighted in bold, please for dear god read the bit in bold!
  8. Jeeze, yeah "if I remember" and if petrol was as expensive then as it is now. Are you just making up new stories as you go along?? This story would've been infinitely more useful at the beginning of this thread than the fact £30 is not a third of a tank, and £110 is not a fumes to brim fill up. Just fill up and see if the light goes off, how can it be so difficult :) Have fun I thought you was giving up? It was last year, no need to make up the stories, whats the point in that? I KNOW how much fuel does what in an LS400, I have one for chr1st sake, I dont have to work on pathetic maths theories. £30 IS a 1/3rd of a tank from the bottom line, theres no two ways about it (not from below, not from above the empty line) Jesus holy *****, if he has put in £30 the light should have definatly gone off, by filling up it will only be by luck if the light dissapears, due to the sender possibly being dislodged, It wont have been because there was a lack of fuel and the light being genuinly on Which part of your brain can't understand £30 is enough to get rid of the fuel light, be it from the bottom marker of the fuel guage or from a bone dry tank!
  9. ok, I give up. Your real world experience wasn't an empty tank, £30 isn't a third of a tank, LS owner or not. To the OP, please fill up first. I am more than happy to come out wrong once you've done that, but I don't like people throwing money away without exploring all avenues. yes please give up, because real world experiences count, not theorys with maths. I've ran on fumes in the ls400 to the point the engine has actually misfired due to fuel starvation, I think if I remember correctly I then put £20 in, the fuel light went out... £30 will sort the light good and propper.
  10. How so? I just showed you the maths to prove otherwise. All you have said is that you brim your car from an "indicated" empty for £110, which isn't enough fuel for you to be completely empty. forget the maths, real world experiences show that £30 from an empty tank will knock it WAY past the point at which the light comes on, i've got an LS400, i've done it. but the light comes on with about 1/8th of a tank showing so that means nothing... All I can say is that I can drive about 50 miles from when the light comes on, the needle goes waaay past empty (im talking about another 1/10th) and if I put £30 it will take it to a 1/3rd If in the same scenario you are only getting the fuel light to go off on the "cusp" then there is something wrong with the sender/guage.... You are confusing me mate. The OP wanted to know why his lite was still on after putting in 30 quids worth of gas. I am purely demonstrating (through the maths) that if he was literally on fumes, £30 may not be enough to "definitely" put the light out. So fill up and see if the light goes off, before spending a pot load of money on a problem that may not be there. 10th's, 8th's, qtrs, thirds of a tank make no difference, the physics of fuel fitting in the volume of the tank at a given cost per unit do make a difference. If the OP was running on fumes 10 litres of fuel would be enough to extinguish his low level light, it might come on again with in 5 miles or so but defo would not need anywhere near £30, and thats without doing the maths. exactly, £30 is more than plenty. no maths needed
  11. Cheers for that Alex, thats another option there for me to explore :)
  12. I dont mean to confuse you, Im basically saying this: if you had a bone dry tank and put £30 in it, there would be enough fuel there to DEFINATELY go way past the point at which the fuel light is activated... :)
  13. but the light comes on with about 1/8th of a tank showing so that means nothing...
  14. from below the empty line filling up until the fuel nozzle clicks it costs £110, so realistically when the tank is on the half full mark there should be £55 in it, yes? well no! You do know that pretty much all toyota/lexus tanks/senders are top heavy, ie: the sender of the top half of the fuel takes longer to use up than the lower half. from my estimations with current fuel prices theres about £47 worth in the lower half (to make it go way past the low level indicator) of the tank and £63 in the upper half £20 definatly shows 1/4 of a tank from the empty mark, but I can guarantee that if you put £20 in while the tank is 3/4 full, you wouldnt get it to reach the full mark To say that £30 is right on the cusp of not getting beyond the low level, is ludicrous :)
  15. Not a Chance of £30 being a 1/3rd tank at the current prices. Fill it up properly first to make sure. I must be imagining it then, from the empty marker (not below or above!) £30 puts it to a 1/3rd full. mk3 ls400 £20 takes it to 1/4 , £40 takes it to just under half..
  16. £30 should show 1/3 full on the guage, thats plenty to knock the fuel light off... the problem is the sender unit as Lexus stated,,,
  17. so far I can see that you can buy the arms off ebay from the following sellers: ziggy-a2z carspares-direct azcarpartsuk atozofcarparts pru_uktrading so who has had dealings with any of them with your wishbones?
  18. Did they fit fine, any allignment issues? also which ebay seller did you use?
  19. Im doing a full suspension component change, but i've yet to buy the upper wishbones/arms for the front of my 1996 mk3... Wheres a good place to buy them? I hear lexus want £350 each which is outta my price range, theres some on ebay @ 2 for £99, which im dubious about So do you guys have any recomendations for a quality front upper wishbone at a reasonable price? Cheers
  20. LOL exactly, no damn tyre fitter is going to get pain £15 an hour, just LOL!!!!!!! I wouldnt call them monkeys, but they are hardly highly trained technicians, they will be pretty much on minimum wage, well not much above it anyway.... Even trained mechanics dont get anywhere near £15 an hour, nevermind a tyre fitter! I think i'll stick to my £7 tyre changes at national tyres, includes wheel removal, new valves, balancing and refitting, disposal of old tyres...basically the lot B) :winky:
  21. I usually pay £7 per tyre at National Tyres... I've been quoted £15 before by places, but IMO thats just way too much for fitting and balancing a tyre!
  22. boooooooo thats all ive got too, I want the toolkit case that slots into the side of the wing :( im trying to think of what else I want/need but I cant think of much
  23. not to worry, do you still have the toolkit from the boot?
  24. toxo do you have the front lower arms? I want both sides to put new bushes in.... then I can just put the new units on mine to minimise my cars downtime you got them? and how much? :D cheers
