  1. I have a feeling the car will be going back for some more warranty work very very soon (much to their delight im sure), so I dont want to say at this stage. I know I could go to a different dealership with the warranty, but the one I go to is already far enough away as it is!
  2. I dumped the OEM pads and put EBC yellowstuff pads in all around on my LS460, much much better stopping power, slightly more dusty but a worthwhile upgrade. Make sure the hub is spotless.. sandpaper/wire brush then copper grease before putting the disc back on as the LS460 seems to be sensitive with vibration
  3. i had a clicking from the brakes, very very quiet clicking, but the ls460 is a quiet car, so you can hear it, if you listen out. it went back and forth with the dealership for around 6 weeks with ME telling them what the problem was (brake actuator).. they tried to fob me off by taking me out in another customers LS460 that had clicking brakes, telling me it was normal.. nope! to me that means that customers car is broke also.. in the end they put a new actuator on and no clicking I've had my keys thrown back at me in the middle of the showroom because i merely questioned why i should be paying £100 an hour when its under warranty I've been told in the middle of the showroom the operation of a LS460 window is that it should go up and down, nevermind seal properly with the weather strip I've been phoned on the day the car was due to have work carried out (after having a technician determine what the issue was a few days previously), by the service manager with an attitude and been given the 20 questions grilling as to whats wrong with my car and why... errr speak to your technician! its not upto the customer to explain what parts are required and why. If it wasn't for me actually liking the Toyota/ Lexus LS brand, id have sold the lot and gone to BMW/Merc/Jag by now
  4. brake actuator, window regulators, steering rack, suspension airbags, abs module etc etc had ALOT of hassle with the dealership also
  5. I own both a 1996 LS400 and a 2007 LS460 SE-L, ive had the ls400 for over 6 years and the ls460 since march this year. I love both cars very much, the ls400 feels oldish now, but reliable, comfortable, solid/hard wearing, you can rely on it and its cheap to run. The LS460 feels special, it has many many toys, sleek bodywork, awesome interior with super soft leather, it feels like an event every time you drive it, however it feels delicate as if the quality isnt there like it is with the LS400... im always catious around it. ive done less than 5000 miles since owenership and ive now clocked up £15000 in replacement parts covered under the genuine lexus warranty that i took out due to it being eligible. its got 95000 miles, FLSH, in mint condition, its by no means a lemon, I just think Lexus quality isnt what it used to be, so be aware of this upon purchase and have a rainy day fund/deep pockets or get a lexus warranty.
  6. its done 94k. Ive done about 3k in my ownership. new power steering rack brake actuator and other brake related items window regulator once this "issue" is sorted, ill start a new topic rewiewing the ls460, itll also include my dealership experience
  7. Ive a 2007 LS460, excellent condition, FLSH.... i bought it in march and after a long hard think, i put a genuine lexus warranty on it (£1500 for 1 year) ... im SO glad i did.. 1 air suspension leg went down about 6 weeks ago The car is currently at lexus again and has been for the last 2 weeks... while they fit £9000 yes ( NINE Thousand pounds) worth of parts under warranty... These cars NEED a warranty on them, unless you have deep pockets oh and the lexus service ive recieved has been shocking, ive been spoken to like crap, had my keys thrown at me in the dealership showroom and im currently in discussion with the dealer principle The quality of the newer lexus' compared the the LS400 is not comparable, the service and brand has gone downhill in my humble opinion.
  8. a little bit yeah, but i think thats because im trying to be extra carefull with not marking the leather impressions so far: -it feels alot bigger than the ls400 -i think the ls400 engine is quieter in certain situations... -certain roads the ls460 road/tyre noise is quieter... others the ls400 is... -overall cabin noise, the ls460 is quieter - the brakes are good... standard vs standard the ls460 are better.... my ls400 with drilled/grooved discs and EBC yellowstuff pads are better than the ls460 though.. - i do like the radar cruise control, but it seems i can only set the cruise in 5mph increments, the ls400 was 1mph increments, which i prefered! -alot of the sat nav/dvd functions are locked out whilst driving... i can understand the dvd part, but not the sat nav, thats a bit annoying, I think theres a way around it though by buying a gadget/box from the usa, so ill look into that more -the sound system is just simply amazing, better than the ls400 (which was also amazing!) -it gets alot of attention! -I love the adjustable air suspension, my favourite mode, has to be comfort mode -Im getting a GENUINE 26mpg, thats calculated from myself after brimming the tank ( the on board computer states 23 mpg), thats a mixture of driving... my ls400 would get 19mpg on LPG -Its an amazing car to look at inside/out just a few brief thoughts so far :)
  9. yeah you dont have to have the radar cruise on, you can use it as just regular cruise control I do agree with needing a long test drive... I went to view my LS460 twice... and spent over 4 hours in total driving/looking around it
  10. moriwaki - Good post, its nice to hear other owners opinions... I did read a while ago that you had concerns on the LS460, and to be honest your thoughts have always been in the back of my mind when looking/testing LS460's. Do you still have the LS460 or have you traded it in? ill agree with you about the LS400 lack of boot opening while the engines on, quite annoys me does that! I cant quite agree with your other points on the 460 though with the lack of torque, sound system, cruise control and noise... but then their are so many variables, and also that other big thing.... opinions, they differ
  11. Ha dont worry, the LS400 will be used pretty much everyday.
  12. Malc - you are right, the ls400 are very cheap to run, so reliable and on LPG its like getting the equivalent of 40mpg.. I went to lexus today to enquire about a warranty, that seems to be the way forward possibly in terms of LS460 ownership. Spacewagon52 - dont worry, the LS400 is on the drive also mikeyv - ive told the girlfriend that she can drive it, ill sit in the back... might even buy her a chauffeurs hat - that didnt go down well GrahamG - the ls460 seems quieter than the ls400, theres insulation under the wheel arches and i presume the double glazing helps. I didnt drive the LS600 as thats just too complicated for me and even more to go wrong, plus it has 4 wheel drive which doesnt appeal to me
  13. I've had the ls400 for 6 years and it's been great and it's quite cheap to run being reliable and on lpg whilst being comfy/fast. For me the ls460 feels to be on a different level completely, obviously being so much newer... More toys, alot more technology, alot more to go wrong too! So lets hope the legendary Toyota build quality and reliability follows with this one I feel a bit sorry for my ls400, it's been very loyal so it's staying where it is
  14. Always promised myself one of these so thought id buy one to run along my mk3 LS400, picked it up last week and over the moon with it criteria was that it had to be an SE-L with the lane keep assist, full lexus service history, cream leather interior and have the half wooden heated steering wheel... obviously had to be in great conditon too. Its currently having the wheels powder coated and ive some cream overmats waiting for me at Lexus .
  15. I changed the headunit on mine, which as you know meant i lost the amp/sub so I went for an 8" pioneer sub in the oem location, with a pioneer amp but I built a discreet sub box on the underside of the parcel shelf, meaning the boots firewall carpet hides the lot so it still looks 100% totally stock in the boot sounds very good
  16. I found the usa source after I had the repair done, It took ALOT of digging to find that, the repair procedure is not openly available on the forums, its well hidden. Malc, if you are happy with your repair and paying someone money for it, then thats great. some/alot of the members would really like the options available to us before hand, so we can decide from there. If in future, members have a burnt needle and either know how easy it is to repair, AND there is a service available via Vince, and still choose him then thats fine, thats their choice. Its the hiding information which really shouldnt be hidden that gets to me. The difference with Benfur, is that, you actually got a good deal, there were no hidden secrets and alternatives.
  17. Yeah im sure he did sit you down in the lounge and gave you coffee, so youd be out of the way and not witnessing how damn easy they are to repair! He obviously wanted to keep the monopoly on ls400 dash repairs. I couldnt fault his service either, fast turn around and fixed dash, YES- happy days, but its just the fact of not sharing the repair procedure, that is easy/ literally anyone could to, just to benefit for future financial gain. That got my back up tbh. Not to mention posting the dash off, knowing someone will be without their car for a few days, all for someone to rub a bit of paint on a needle. 30 mins downtime is all that is needed, that is, if knowledge is shared.
  18. its missing the front 3 piece lower spoiler and the aerial looks broke, far from mint
  19. Ive a mini 1080p dash cam, hidden behind the rear view mirror, no wires showing, hardwired into the wiring loom. it records in 3 minute segments for a total of 3 hours then deletes the oldest file and records over. powers on/off with the ignition switch. ill get some pics of how discreet it is.
  20. The plastic coating on one of the needles had cracked off, it needs repairing by painting electro conductive paint(same as you get for rear demister repairs) on the back of the needle I had 1 needle go on mine and had it repaired by chris vince at a total cost of over £100 I had another needle go a year later and decided to investigate it myself, I found his "special trick", bought the paint for less than a fiver and did it myself To think I paid him over £60 for the 'repair' and over £40 in postage is ridiculous, I thought us forum members should be helping each other out, not trying to hide secrets like he did for financial gain. :megaangry: :shruriken: Infact I still have a tub of the paint left, if anyone has a dead needle and are near me in west yorkshire, ill repair the damn thing for free!
  21. The replacement was from another ls400 I bought to get some spares off. I got the info regarding the ecu issues from the USA forums, there is a revised part number for the updated ecu, cant remember what it is off the top of my head. Malc, the 1uzfe is a clean running engine, its unlikely to be a dirty ICV at fault, it will be the ecu
