  1. I have had a few years away from the Lexus brand, and been in both Mercedes and Audi. About 6 months ago we swapped my wifes car from an Merc E350 Coupe to the NX and she loves it. Having had it about 6 months I have really enjoyed having a Lexus again and have now swapped my current Audi A7 to a RX 450H F Sport. Have been looking for a while for a nice spec / mileage / cared for example and ended up at Lexus Derby again (3rd car from them ). A beautiful white F sport with Pan roof and HUD, and only a curb rash on an alloy wheel which they already had booked in to do. Pick it up next week and looking forward to many years happy motoring again.
  2. I am currently a very happy GS300 owner and think its time for a change. Love the reliability and refinement of the Lexus, and have decided to stick with Lexus and look for a good RX450h, probably around a 2010 . Are there any problems or recalls i should be aware of, as i normally keep my eye on the GS forum, so would appreciate any advise members have. Another small point, but do all RXs have DAB radio in? Thanks Paul
  3. Sorry, Steve did not now the rule about only Gold members being able to sell. Apologies. Paul
  4. Looking to sell my 3rd Gen GS300 which has been perfect to be honest, but just fancy a change after 4 years of trouble free motoring. Have looked at the usual suspects in BMW, Mercedes, Audi, but i can't help thinking the Lexus reliability and refinement is something i can't do without. Looking for a low mile RX 2010 (ish) and was wondering if there are any problems i should be aware of. Been member here for a little while so keep an eye on the GS postings, but only just started looking at the RX forums. Are there any recalls, or regular issues i should be looking out for? Any advise appreciated, Thanks Paul
  5. Great to see. i have a 300 on 150k, going to get a timing belt and oil change next week. My interior is almost as good despite wearing blue jeans every day. Only problem i have is the wheels have lost lacquer and have a few areas of deterioration. going to try and refurb myself one sunny afternoon. Few stone chips, but i did get a new bonnet on warranty about 6 months ago as i has two areas of bubbling paint that appeared to start on the back. This was agreed and a new bonnet was fitted.
  6. My 2006 GS300 has done a pretty faultless 150k miles. How much should a timing belt change cost roughly, trying to weigh up whether to get it done and keep her going, or change car. She is in great condition and drives so quiet and smooth, it would be difficult to find something this good, but not sure what it would cost to do a belt change Thanks for any advise Paul
  7. I have an 07 GS SE-L Most reliable car i have ever had. I have done over 110K in 3.5 years and never had an issue. was thinking of changing, but looking about nothing does what she does as well. She is quite, relaxed but can pick up her skirt and run very quick if i want to. Killer sound system, comfortable seats. To get similar spec / comfort it would have to be 7 series BMW of S class Merc Sad thing is 3.5 years ago she was £16.5k, now trade in type value is about £3k I have decided to keep running her for a while longer, and just keep up the regular maintenance .
  8. Mine move slightly when going from forward to reverse on occasion, which does create a small click sometimes. Have had them off this afternoon to check them over,(and copper grease them to get rid of an annoying squeak ) and they seem fine. Checked all retaining pins and split pins in place and all good. Sounds like you will be OK to me
  9. i get my car serviced at a local garage. I used to live next to the owner and he had an RX so was happy working on the lexus. As long as they have the service guidelines and follow them it should be ok. I think my friend downloaded it and did everything that should be done. i had a problem with my car very early and showed the service book with service stamps by my friend and they accepted that the car had been serviced correctly etc and sorted my problem. About half the price of a lexus dealer. PG
  10. 124000, and was getting itchy feet for a change. Runs like new and nothing else drives like it. Will keep her running and enjoy the luxury. PG
  11. Just had exactly the same. The flicking on for a while suggests lamp is going and the ballast is trying to fire it up i was told. Lexus Milton Keynes ordered and fitted straight away. Was £105 . sounds a lot for a bulb, but it runs at 20,000 volts apparently. Been a good a gold since. PG
  12. Would definately be the best thing you ever did. Had mine for 90k miles and love every minute of it. PG
  13. Hi all, Just had car tell me in wants a new air filter. Checked it this afternoon and it dosn't look to bad. I was going to change it anyway, but was wondering if its worth spending the extra money on a K&N filter. Fairly recently the car has dropped in economy, to about 31mpg on a tank full (resonable amount of motorways) and was wondering if this could be down to the filter? car has a happy 110k on it and still runs like a dream. Checked the cabin pollen filter and this was very dirty, so will be changing this. I am no master mechanic, but would say both of these jobs are very simple and take minutes if anyone is wondering if they can do it. Found a link on uTube that was very good. Any comments appreciated, especially about the loss of economy. Thanks PG
  14. Have you changed any radio settings? The RDS and traffic info updates the SAT NAV i think?
  15. i have a 2006 SE-L with ML sound system. I keep reading about people playing DVDs on the touch screen, but mine doesn't seem to want to do it. Is there a trick i am missing? Any advise appreciated. PG
  16. Cheers Micky, Just done a £500 service and a couple of tyres. Test drove a couple of BMWs in the week and have to say it made my mind up. I am going to stick with the Lexus. It drives so much better than anything i have test drove. So i would be mad to change. Two new tyres seems to have sorted the grumble. So i guess the flat spot on older tyres was right. seemed an odd explanation, but the car had sat at the airport for 3 weeks without turning a wheel, so the flat spot is feasible. the new ones seem to have done the trick. Going to keep her going for at least another year, and will take your advise on allowing a few quid each month for repairs if they crop up. I have new discs and pads all round, new tyres, just serviced so should be OK for a while. I have enjoyed the car a lot ,and will continue to do so for a while longer, and probably look at another Lexus in the future. Paul
  17. i think your right about immobiliser. i may be wrong but do seem to remember reading on here somewhere that leaving key in ignition does re synch the immobiliser with the key some how.
  18. I have loved the last 2.5 years in my GS300 SE-L. have done about 75K miles, reasonably trouble free (apart from Lexus MK getting my fuel pump rewire wrong and breaking down 3 times as a result) I now have a slight grumble from front end. i thought it was wheel bearings and have changed drivers front side. I have new brakes and discs all round. The noise is still there, but my mates garage thinks the tyres are flat spotted due to age ( i am kind to tyres i guess). He thinks the noise goes away when i change the tyres. it is due a service end of Jan and was going to get two new fronts at the same time. i cant help thinking its time to change as she has 102k on the clock now, and may start costing a lot of money. i do mainly motorway miles, and need a reliable car. Any thoughts on whether its time to change to avoid big bills, or shall i keep as others have not had big bills at similar miles. PG
  19. Hi i have a 56 plate. There was a recall on wiring loom to the fuel pump and brake master cylinder seal. Both done under recall warranty. + Mine had a failure of its computer brain. It came up with VSC failure and a complete christmas tree on the dash. A bit of research on here and i found it to be a common (ish) problem. I pointed out that this should be a recall as it was a known problem. I bit of a tussle later and it was done by Lexus Derby. If i had not seen it on here i think it would have been about £1500. Other than that i have done about 50k miles in 18 months and its been perfect. Great car, and would not want to swap it (yet) PG
  20. I fill up for about £71 at the moment, and get approx 460miles per tank i think. With conservative driving i get about 33MPG, used to be as high as 37-38MPG but since the fuel pump wiring recall i have lost about 10% efficiency. Lexus Milton Keynes are having another look at this on Monday to hopefully sort it out What year is your GS300 though? 56 plate. Just done another couple of tanks of fuel. Average was 32.5 before filling up and 33.3mpg. Lexus MK say everything is fine, but just not as great as it was. Still not bad for the size of engine and luxury involved in driving.

  22. Hi Steve, If it helps, I am new to the GS myself 1 year ago. I bought a GS300 SE-L on a 56 plate, as the spec was very high and the car is a pleasure to drive. I bought it as a car that could cope with approx 40k a year. Mainly long runs, but some town driving thrown in. My car resets the trip after each fill up, and i have got 35-36mpg from each tank full. I have the 18" wheels, and would say there is some road noise, but not enough to annoy. the ride my car has is fantastic. I have driven to Scotland and back from Milton Keynes in a day without issue, and on these longer runs, if driven with a bit more care than normal, you can nudge 38-39 mpg. I originally visited the dealer to look at an IS, but the GS caught my eye, and was definately a good choice. Paul
  23. Did mine last night Swift cover (an online insurer) GS300 SE-L o an 06 plate. Paid £516 for full business use. It was £524 last year. Looked about for cheeper, but alllooks the same, so stayed with Swift Hope this helps PG
