    Good afternoon all,

Quick question on everyone's favourite topic here - tyres! Currently looking for a new set, was looking at Michelin Crossclimate 2's, as per the general recommendation and consensus on here but have seen that Costco have Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-3 SUV's at the moment for less than £480 fitted which seems like great value.

I guess the question is whether or not Crossclimates are really worth the extra £200?

    Thanks

I dont think they'll be worth the additional £200

Go for the Goodyears - they also have good reviews

    Hi there

My RX 450h 2021 was stolen using the can bus method just over a week ago in London. It was due to have the anti theft plate fitted just a few days later.

The insurance offer was quite a bit lower than expected. I have researched the same model, year and similar mileage on the Lexus website and Autotrader to compare.

The valuer told me that they take an average value across the country which seems a bit unusual as I would be looking within 50 miles at most

He also told me that he would not accept any examples from me of other cars for sale or change the offer.

The only option if I disagree is to dispute this offer, in which case it gets passed to an engineer who will evaluate the offer but will not take any examples from me. After this I can complain to the Financial Ombudsman. This may not be successful as by the time they look at the complaint the value of the car would have dropped.

Has anyone had experience of this and managed to get a better offer, which steps did you take?

    thanks in advance

You need to make your case about why your car was worth more than offered in writing to them.

I.e. you definitely need to send over similar examples on autotrader or Lexus dealer websites atleast 5.

You also need to make the point that currently CAP prices that they use are not representative of the current market.

You also need to send over service history / MOT / Invoices if applicable for the vehicle.

You also need to make the point across that the insurer has a responsibility to put you in the same position as you were prior to the vehicle being stolen and their offer would considerably put you out of pocket.

You can always threaten to take to small claims court as well as the financial ombudsman.

Its common for insurers to give you a low ball figure to begin with.

Make sure you don't limit yourself to 50 miles when searching similiar vehicles by the way as they do take the value across the country into account, not just in one area

    Hi All,

I am now a proud owner of the Lexus UX 250H F Sport Design model. Its a 2023 model delivered on 9th Oct 2023. Really pleased with the car so far (details first opinion to follow soon).

I have just noticed that there are some mismatches in the car I have noticed. The spec on the Lexus website (https://lexus.turtl.co/story/ux250h/page/4/3) specifies that Illuminated Entry System and Headlight Cleaners are part of the F Sport Design but I can confirm that both these features are not available on my car.

I have spoken to the dealer and as usual they are looking into it.

Has anyone else found these kind of mismatches and what are my options. As it clearly doesn't have what it says on the tin :).

    regards.

    Pavan

    Website isn't accurate sometimes

In the first instance compare to the brochure.

    Hi,

Does anyone know why a 6 month old brand new Lexus sat nav/maps SD card would all of a sudden come up with-unable to read data? very peculiar it has worked fine for the last 6 months then all of a sudden doesn’t work anymore? Anyone else having the same issue? 2019 Lexus is300h. Any help would be appreciated.

Is it a genuine Lexus card?

So my dealership told me to contact Supagard which I did and they said there should have been a Supagard bag of tricks in the car (not in the car, will deal with the dealership later). Supagard sent me one of their products with instructions so after working on the bonnet for over an hour some of the marks have gone and the rest are not as obvious.
For now I am too busy and the weather does not help but will get back to Supagard and the dealer as soon as. Spent to much money to be happy with the marks.

    Id aim for a refund.

Its unlikely theyd do anything about the actual marks themselves - you will have to sort that out yourself. Get a hairdryer on it, itll sort it out but if you're going to leave it for a month itll make it more difficult

I hadn't realised the externally visible door sills on the new 2023 RX are an integral part of the doors and extend to the lower edge of the bodywork, this leaves a small crack leading to a void below the door seal. Any muck thrown up by the front wheels is able to get through the crack and collect on the inside lower edge of the door sill so when you open the door there's an unsightly mess to see all along the bottom edge of the door. They have fitted a rubber flap just behind the front wheel presumably to try and stop this happening but it clearly doesn't work. I don't think this is up to the design standard I expect from Lexus?

That's the case with most cars and indeed the 4th generation RX as well.

The solution is either to have the seal higher up which would lead to dirty trousers or as it is now where the dirt is on inside of the door and cleaned by the owner.

I have a cherished plate B10 RCF on retention.  ( 'Beaten' or 'BIO' ) What do you think its worth ?

Number plates aren't worth anything unless someone wants to pay for them as mentioned already.

£500 maybe as a starting point if you were going to sell and assess interest from there.

This is what really hacks me off when a loyal customer who, like me has driven Lexus and Toyota cars for years has to consider changing brands because Lexus couldn't give a monkey's if they do and   all because of the failure of Lexus to provide adequate anti theft measures to their product range.    Not withstanding useless Insurers/Repair shops who don't fulfill their obligations in a reasonable time frame.   Lexus cars world wide are one of the most likely to be stolen because they are pitifully easy to steal.  Owning a car eventually will just become too much of a headache in addition to the stealth taxes they are subject to by every Government since Adam was a lad.  The motorist is a cash cow, from fuel duty, road tax, insurance and UK new car prices all of which are going only in one direction - UP

I mean, I had a repair job sent to Lexus and it took a week - whole rear bumper repair. It really does depend on which dealer / bodyshop you use. I use the RRG bodyshop in Bolton by the way just in case anyone needs to use them for Lexus cars. For any insurance work you can use your own repairer

My 250h front power outlet does not work. The one in the boot works fine.

    I suspect , perhaps a fuse.

Where is the fuse  box?  Do both outlets operate through the same fuse? If that's the case, the outlet may be faulty.

    Any clues?

They are underneath the glove box.

You have to get your head down underneath there and there is a small cover that pulls off revealing the fuses

Interesting. It's a low mileage car for age. So only about 9k miles in that time...

The other option is you could get something like Carly dongle and with the dealers permission stick it in the USB port and run the "used car check" built in. It will have the confirmed service history dates and mileage in KM. There is a chance the paperwork has been lost.

With most car manufacturers now, their approved used scheme just means that it has been checked and warranted - they don't have to have a full service history or a manufacturer service history at all as long as the supplying dealer has inspected and serviced it.

    Hi all

    Here's a hypothetical:

Lexus ISF from a Lexus dealership. Good age and mileage.

Has regular Lexus service history from birth to 2023 with an approx 4 year gap with no service history available. This seems to be because they have no paperwork or record of work done besides where it's happened at Lexus. Thus it comes across as having a 4 year gap with no services.

Also, no additional receipts or paperwork for work carried out except for work done at Lexus which they can pull up on their system.

Would this be of strong concern?

    Cheers,

    Not a massive concern.

Old car - bound to have some missing history and the main thing would be condition / mileage.

Check mileages between MOTs, if its done less than 20k in those 4 years I wouldn't be hugely concerned providing the price is right.

Update ** just been out to try @wivenhoe and it worked by holding the key fob up against the power switch. Display comes to life and car powers up and drives.  If I power down and try again with key away from power button I.e. in pocket then it fails to power up. I’ll contact dealer, however thanks. Progress of sort.

In that case sounds like a flat Battery in the key fob.

The key fobs have a backup secondary Battery for when the main key Battery is low/dead which is where the "push the start button with the fob" thing comes from. Id change it and see if it begins to work again. I have had that once where the car opens up, can recognise the fob is in the vicinity of the car but then doesn't recognise it inside.

Brochure items that are formally listed as part of the specification should not have to be turned off to protect the asset. They are being advertised as "features" and selling points. Alternatively in the brochure for the car there could be a disclaimer that states it may put the vehicle at increased risk of theft. Of course all things can be "cracked" especially when security is not part of the original design! Manufacturers in other industries will address new security vulnerabilities with fixes, updates or recalls. The position Lexus have taken shows an almost distain for the customer.

They don't have to be turned off. Its up to the owner whether they want to take the risk or not and regardless, they are still a feature and selling point irrespective of their security issues. Think about new home which are built - theyre sold with locks which can be snapped in less than 10s by a burglar. The owner upgrades these locks or takes the risk and I dont think the home companies provide a disclaimer suggesting that their house is at risk of being burgled due to the locks that have been fitted.

Cars still get stolen without keyless entry - thieves frequently enter homes to grab the keys even now.

Not sure about ignorance, sounds like classic cognitive dissonance which would appear to be quite common in the current society of 'Modern' Britain. This situation is no different than Microsoft releasing a hands free convenient method to access Windows. This method is prone to allowing the operating system to be hacked in a production real world setting. In order to protect your Windows system against this flaw you need to fit a physical keyboard lock to make up for this shortcoming! Lexus like other vehicle makers have failed to provide keyless entry with reasonable levels of security. There is no reason why the keyless system cannot have symmetric end to end encryption with keys rotating every few seconds. This would result in MITM attacks being practically impossible. The current deployment of keyless is not secure within a real world environment and therefore you could argue it is misselling to state that this is a vehicle feature which in reality could cause an owner to have the car stolen. The current deployment of keyless is not fit for purpose in its current insecure form. Then there is the Cambus operating without encryption at least until MY23 vehicles, not exactly secure by design!

I have no idea about IT and therefore can't comment on most of what you have written above.

Keyless cars have been in existence for a long time. The keyless theft didn't become a huge issue until about 2-3 years ago. Again, with the canbus issues, the RXs have been out since 2016 and these thefts have only started about 1 year ago. The point being is that most things can be "cracked" and cars stolen given enough time has passed.

The solutions are available - i.e. turn off the keyless feature if you prefer and it is a well enough known problem covered by the media that the general public should know by now about this.

Car unlocks and opens as normal. I have been using it quite intently last couple of days monitoring charge progress. Not entirely sure how the app could cause such a draw on the car. As stated likely not as the battery is fully charged. I’ll contact dealer in the morning to see what they can do.

Best thing to do is call the AA out - they will trailer it to Lexus and they can do the diagnosis. Not sure what could have caused it apart from a corrupt OTA update

Lexus Link on some cars cause the drain because the module on the car never shuts off when it should be doing.

Will soon have to get new tyres for my RX and was thinking if any of you have some good recommendations for all weather tyres?

I was considering Michelin CrossClimate 2 but apparently they are not great in wet which is what we mostly get in UK (excellent on snow and dry though)

Then Hankook Kinergy 4S2 SUV (great in wet and dry but just average in snow) but couldn’t find anywhere in the right size (235 55 20)

Michelin CC2's are good in the wet, and the snow.

The ratings dont mean anything much - they're rated by the manufacturer themselves. All it means is that the wet performance may not be as good as the Michelin Pilot Sport 5s but they may be better than another tyre.

I've had absolutely no issues in the wet with them so I think it would be slightly foolish to discard them considering how good they really are as an all year round tyre

Of course anything that does not meet your specific opinions must be ridiculous. Cognitive dissonance is a wonderful thing. As you say security risks have always existed and this does provide full and robust justification of the current position....

I genuinely dont see what your problem is.

Its ignorant to suggest that keyless entry should be removed from the specification list. Many owners use it everyday and find it extremely useful. They are either willing to take the risk of keeping it active, or adding their own aftermarket devices to protect their vehicle.

Your "Solution" suggests removing it entirely and giving owners no choice whatsoever

Agree but Lexus should delete keyless entry from the vehicle specification as it cannot be used with reasonable levels of security. Presumably activating the unlock button manually can also be captured and used in a replay or extension type attack? Personally I believe Lexus should fund as part of a recall package installation of a third party approved immobiliser. Given the way the Lexus brand sees customers especially in the UK this of course would not happen. The values and original Lexus ethics of the late 80s when the brand was launched would not leave customers in a vulnerable position like they have currently.

This is an utterly ridiculous post.

Firstly, this is not a Lexus only issue, many vehicles with keyless entry have exactly the same problem. I can't see any other manufacturers offering anything vaguely similiar to what you have suggested.

Additionally, security risks have always existed. Its the owners responsibility to protect their vehicle too and there is an option to turn the keyless entry off, either temporarily through the buttons on the keyfob or in the menus of the infotainment system permanently. Third party immobilisers are available as well.

All my cars have had keyless entry since 2012. Lexus as a manufacturer have fitted keyless entry to their car and as far as their responsibility lies, its to provide the option to turn it off if the owner wants to. They have no further responsibility whatsoever apart from that.

Yes I’ve already started a claim but I suspect my premium with rocket!

Its a common issue in London and hence why they've had protection plates out to prevent theft for a few months now. Won't help now but get them fitted by the dealer when its done to prevent it happening in the future.

But the OP managed to get into the car, surely not possible if the 12v is flat?

You can still get in the car. It used to happen consistently on the UX 300e where lexus link was on and every 2-3 days even if it was driven the car would unlock and open as normal but wouldnt start because the 12V Battery was flat.

Nevertheless, looks like its not the issue anyway as the Battery is fully charged in OPs case
