Doh. I know this shouldn't happen but then I have a bit of a shady Lexus. I have been Jet washing my car a lot recently because of all the salt on the roads and have noticed that when cleaning under the bonnet i've loosened the VIN plate and lo behold its no longer there. Now forgive my ignorance on this small piece of ID but it is something I dont check on regulary cos you dont expect it to go walkies. All I need to know is will I be able to get a replacement? Due to mt cars dodgy past [stolen recovered etc] I can only assume it has been tampered with at some stage.

Interesting but somewhat dodgy subject is stained or soiled seats. Without opening a can of worms, I can highly recomend autoglyms Leather cleaner and Leather care products. Cleaned my soiled seats a treat and trust me, they were minty just like the rest of the interior :D

£600 to lower your car seems a bit expensive to me. Are they using gold plated springs. I was quoted £157 inc the tax mans slice for a set of springs from Saturn in Sheffield which utilised the standard shock set up. I didnt get them in the end because I came across someone breaking a sport and swapped them from that. They are really easy to swap over B)

Hi Jules. Im running the same tyre and wheel sizes/make as yourself and have had no handling problems at all. The only thing I can fault them on is they tend to be a bit harsh on uneven road surfaces but thats down to the stiffer lowered suspension as well. Great fun in the wet B)

There are thousands of cars out there with (among other things) dirty fuel filters. I once aquired an XJ40 which upon changing the filter, ran like a dream. That filter was in the same place as The GS one and it was an absolute sod to seal afterwards. No matter how many swear words I used it didn't want to know. Thanx for the info. I didn't get round to looking there. Its on the another job on the car to do list.

Can someone let me know where the fuel filter is located please and if its a dealer supply unit only? I bet your gonna tell me its in an awkward place where I need 3 hands and im guaranteed to wear loads of petrol when I swap it. I can't believe its not under the bonnet for easy access like on my old Z cars..... ( cue the ford zephyr jokes) :)

Yeh, I tried Ribbons are us. They put me in touch with the Morris Marina Owners club who I believe use lots of ribbons during their Morris Dancing festivals. I decided not to pursue it any further as I may have been seen to show an interest in The Morris Marina or discover a fetish for Donning silly clothes and bashing large pieces of wood against fellow enthusiasts large pieces of wood whilst wearing bells on my feet. :P -
I guess you have come across this problem before because I know I have. I traced mine to a sticky brake caliper which was ever so slightly causing the brake to bind. Well, I have just been chatting to a friend who has an imported Celica and he was telling me he had the same problem every so often. Well we decided to take a look and remove the front calipers. The dust shields on the pistons were not split at all but one piston was completely solid. One quick strip and polish and coppa slip later, no more wobbles. Now surely there must be loads of other cars out there with this problem and no end of wheel balancing will put it right. If you wobble, check out your calipers :)

check out the buy and sell forums. There is a one armed bloke breaking a GS300 sport series 1. This had all the speakers in when i went to see it. Im sure he will do you a good deal. If you cant find it send me a reply and i'll get you his details. Ps. hes only got one arm cos I bit the other one off when he sold me the bits for mine. fair prices. :)

Good advice that. I tried mrs Muldoon and she said she stopped selling ribbons and has now moved onto shoelaces. She did tell me to try CPC in preston cos the laser is a sony item and they keep it in stock. And guess what? She was only right. This woman is amazing. I don't how you found out about her but im glad you did and you shared it with me. -
Its no big deal changing the cam belt on the six cylinder models. Any reputable garage should be able to sort that for you. I've just done my own along with the plugs. Don't know if they needed doin but it gives me piece of mind cos if it snapped it would cost a lot more to put right than the dealer charges just to change it. Having said that, I replaced a snapped one on a supra a few years ago and it didn't do any engine damage. :)

Hi everyone. Ive just replaced the motor on my 12 disc changer and had a bit of a disaster re assembling it. I've managed to break the ribbon from the laser. Doh. The question is, does anyone know where I can source a laser from cos its a bit of an oddball one. Alternatively anyone know any ribbon suppliers. ;) <_<

Just finally sussed out my steering vibration. I,ll set the scene for you.... Purchase one damaged and[very badly] repaired GS with 18" wheels, go over 60 and the steering wobbles and carries on until it drops below 30. Get wheels balanced. No difference. Get em balanced on the car. No difference. put it down to steering geometry and blame the crash and decide to live with it. Get tracking checked on all four wheels. no problem. Everything pointing where it should but still a slight pull to the left. Hmmm. Finally traced it to a sticking nearside front caliper. Now from cold, no problem, wet weather [and we get a lot of that], no problem but as soon as the brake reached a certain temp, it would bind. I've had stickin calipers on various cars over the years but never had one stick the way this one did. It wasn't enough to stop the car from rolling but enough to cause a nasty vibration. I only noticed it out of pure chance when i was washing the wheels. I noticed one was a lot warmer than the other. That set the alarm bells ringing. Took of both calipers, stripped, cleaned and copperslipped them and now everythings fine. I think my fuel economy has improved as well but maybe thats just a nice thought. If you got a wobble, check your calipers :P
