  1. You can also buy kits that allow you to plug an mp3 player directly into your car's radio system, via a small modulator into the antenna socket. So basically you tune your radio to the correct frequency. Not the same as those mp3 FM transmitter kits though, these are connected via a cable.
  2. I've had a similar issue on a previous car. I replaced the wheel bearing but it was a single tyre with a slight bulge. It made a sort of "...oooooOOOOWWWWOOOO" sound as you approached 70mph. The simplest solution is just to stick the spare on each corner until the noise goes.
  3. Look at it this way. I gave a colleague a 50-mile lift up the motorway yesterday. He said the LS was by far one of the quietest cars he'd been in, and he likes his cars. He also commented on the amount of equipment, which is of course all standard.
  4. Press the CD and MW buttons as you turn the radio on, it'll extend to aerial to its fullest extent. I recently fixed mine, it had a snapped cable. Dead easy job, if somewhat greasy.
  5. But LPG is heavier than air, and thus the vent should always sit lower than the tank. Unless you want a boot full of gas...
  6. Mine is where the towbar would normally be, but next time I'll have it put on the side of the car, behind the rear wheel. Some pumps have really short hoses, making it difficult to reach the filler. Also, the nozzles with the big lever on (as opposed to a pistol grip) usually have stupid big pieces of plastic around them, to stop your hands smelling of cabbage when you disconnect. They often get in the way, hitting the bumper.
  7. Charge the battery fully using a good quality charger. If, once charged, it flattens after only 3 days, then I think it's fair to say you have a problem somewhere. I've left my cars parked up for weeks at a time and they still start up first time. Your LS should be no different.
  8. I've sent you an invite, should be there with you now. Let me know if you have any problems.
  9. I'd imagine it's exactly the same problem, just on the gear that winds the wheel back and forward. I have the PDF file that details its location and how to get to it, but it's a fairly complicated procedure. If you'd like that PDF, send me a private message with your email address, and I'll email you back an invite to an online folder where the PDF is located.
  10. Spare wheel never used - so chances are the tyre will need replacing for safety reasons. Nothing in the advert about suspension, as we all know knocks and clunks are common on LS400s so that'll want investigating. Cambelt replaced 9 years into ownership? What else hasn't been replaced on time? Call me cynical but...well, I'm somewhat cynical.
  11. Guys, check Aviva: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/redir/40185edc and Direct Line: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/redir/70fd449b Aviva are offering 15 weeks free insurance, and Direct Line are offering 20% off. I managed to get about £150 cheaper than confused.com - and Aviva couldn't care less about my LPG modification. I'm going to check around again tomorrow, but I think I'll go with Aviva - Direct Line were about £20 cheaper, but they didn't have an option for LPG and frankly I don't want to give them an excuse on the phone to up my premium because of that.
  12. I ordered two off the back of this thread, from the same company. Quick delivery, took 20 minutes to install. I'm not strong enough to compress the new struts, but I could easily compress the old ones, which still had some gas left. Here's the finished install: Once installed I recommend sending the bonnet up and down a dozen times - they were fairly squeaky and a bit stubborn on the first few closes, but once I'd closed the bonnet enough times they were fine.
  13. Running rich, in which case as people have suggested, try the air filter. Also, perhaps the car thinks that the engine is cold, and is burning more fuel to compensate.
  14. I live in a Manchester postcode (and a nice part of Manchester I might add, for comparison purposes), and the cheapest I can get is about a grand. That's for someone who's had a licence for more than 20 years, no claims, no points, IAM-qualified, and no regular commute either. Insurance is a scam. They'll say how it's to do with engine size but that's nonsense as newer diesels are just as quick. They'll say it's to do with repair costs but that's nonsense again, as they'll just write it off. They'll say its because it's a £50,000 car, but that's nonsense because it's now a £2,000 car. Something needs to be done about car insurance.
  15. I've probably mentioned them so many times people will suspect I work for them, but Worsley Autogas did an excellent job on mine. That's about 50 miles for you. It's been almost a year now since it was done, about 14,000 miles, and the system is perfect.
  16. I got a letter from my current insurer, A-Plan, just the other day, as my insurance expires in about ten days time. "Your quote remains competitive at £2,400". Once I picked myself up from the floor, I checked confused.com (yes, lazy I know), to discover the cheapest quote was about £1,050, and many more that were between that and £1,500. So how A-Plan think that £2,400 is competitive is beyond me. They can be assured of exactly none of my business from now on.
  17. Cars kept in their original condition usually sell for more money. Face it, when you look on the market, the older the car is the more modifications it's usually had. It's the pristine ones that people always go for.
  18. But you have returned your tax disc. It isn't your fault it was lost in the post.
  19. Correct idle speed is 750, plus or minus 50rpm. I suggest you clean the throttle. It isn't a difficult job, just remove the plastic engine cover, the air intake and filter, and clean it out with a carb-cleaner-soaked rag. I have a minor idle issue on mine which I suspect is the electronic idle control, but I'm leaving that for a warmer day.
  20. I have a small 2 inch patch of rust in the corner of the front windscreen, and a few minor bubbles around various wheelarches, but nothing really that serious for a 14-year-old car.
  21. SGS want £35 for a new part, which is perfectly reasonable, but as my mate is fashioning one for me I turned their kind offer down. They're going to regas my bonnet struts though, about £25 each. I think that's excellent value. They'll let me know if they can't be re-gassed (age, exposure etc).
  22. My installer added one as it came with the kit he bought for the job. It isn't really necessary although I see no harm in using it anyway.
