  1. Its hideous! Whats wrong with these people who butcher cars like that! I need to win the lottery tonight so I can rescue it!!!
  2. If you are still looking http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180681769326&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
  3. This may be of interest to you but hurry its up in a couple of hours. I've just noticed it. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250837779314&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT or http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180681769326&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
  4. Thanks for all the advice guys, will get it back up on the jack as soon as the weather improves and try what has been suggested, thanks again for the help.
  5. Thanks for the replies, very much appreciated. I cant see any broken parts when I inspected both front suspension units as I checked all these before I asked on here as i dont want to waste peoples time. Ive read through various forums going back years and there seems to be lots of different opinions on the cause. The clicking mainly seems to happen when slow maneuvering especially in reversing from driveway which obviously tends to use brakes but im sure ive heard it when not using brakes too. I am going to reinvestigate the caliper pins as suggested on other threads and then its onto replacing top control arms if brake refurb doesnt fix it. The brakes all seem in good nick and have loads of life left in them. Cant seem to get undue movement on bushings when using a lever but this may be mute due to no load whilst jacked up. The brakes are all clear and no stuck stones etc. All wheel balance weights are firmly stuck on so its not that. As a matter of interest has anyone bought upper control arms from ebay that arent crap ones, again I have been scared off by some other thread stating that one particular company seemed to be selling old cleaned ones!! Cheers for any ideas. Pete
  6. Firstly please accept my appologies if the answer to my question is in a thread somewhere but I've not been able to find it. To top it all off the pc is playing up so stuck using the browser on my phone and search is not available for some reason. My question is, has anyone experienced a clicking sound coming from front suspension area during slow manouvering and did they manage to find the culprit? I have jacked her up and looked for issues and not found anything but expect that due to no weight on the suspension. The sound is definately a clicking rather than clunking and is like click click click click with half to one second between clicks. I'm really sorry if the answer is on the forum somewhere but I just can't find it. Much thanks for your patience.
  7. Well at least he has removed the 8 to 4 cylinder statement from his advert which is lucky for him as someone could have put in a claim against him with paypal when they found out it wasn't true.
  8. But thanks for the chuckle. Back on topic Baz just stick another £20 in if you can and assuming you haven't gone far since the £30 fill. If that doesn't shift the light then follow the other very good advice you will find on this brilliant forum and please let us know how you get on, theres nowt worse than not knowing the outcome lol. Just for your info my MK3 goes over 1/4 of a tank on £20 from the light coming on, can't be arsed working anything out but I do understand where Tigerfish was going with his maths, I also get the other side too. Splintered arse time lol.
  9. On my Mk3 behind that blanking plate there is space and access. On my car it just popped out and went back in easily enough so dont panic too much if you remove it. I would advise you look at it as you take it out as it is shaped to fit one way or at least it is on mine.
  10. I would love to hear what that sounds like on a drive like the guy did in the clip I posted have you got a mate with a steady hand I wonder if this guys boot leaks!! http://youtu.be/m0PSdpajIqQ Amazing, five years to ruin a car!
  11. This clip sounds nice without being too vulgar. I would like that deep burble without it screaming like some people round my way have done to Range Rovers.
  12. Hi Chris it was nice to meet you yesterday it was good to have a chat and get a comparison of engine sounds etc makes life easier. We got back to sunny/raining/sunny/raining/thunderstorm/raining/sunny (cant make its mind up!) Warrington with no problems and still half a tank of petrol left, what great cars these LS's are. Definately a convert and cant really see what other car I could get after having an LS.
  13. I know what you mean about the weather I lived in Plymouth for 12 or so years and it's always done it own thing. I'm up at asda and it's bright hot and sunny but blowing a gail at the same time lol.
  14. Firstly let me apologise to any members in the west country for the bad weather it's my fault! I'm told by my mates that when I left Plymouth some years back the weather improved significantly for the better, bloody cheek of it! Anyway the LS was a joy to drive down here and only used half tank which is better than I expected. I love this car, I'm sure it's got some noises it shouldn't have under the bonnet which might just be my imagination but until I get the chance to compare it with another LS I will never know for sure. I will have keep an eye out for some meets in the north west unless there is one in the Devon or Cornwall this week. Fingers crossed god realises my air con doesn't work and allows the sun to come out again, failing that your weather should better from next Saturday.
  15. I'm not going mad then lol, I keep catching that out of the corner of my eye but its off the screen by the time I look properly.
  16. Thanks Malc I will have a shufti unless you have a link to hand?
  17. I also have a problem on my radio back lights but also the LCD screen is unreadable too. I assume this is not fixable? I'm not bad with a soldering iron but not sure I want to solder down to that small scale in case I buggered it up. I away on holiday to sunny cornwall on saturday so I expect I will just chuck the Pure highway in for the trip and decide what to do when I get back. The way I see it, i have three options: 1. Get a replacement original and risk it going duff again quite soon, lets face it they are getting on a bit now so all likely to have similar issues. 2. Repair Lights and LCD but what cost? Could be pricey compaired to.... 3. Get an after market radio with bluetooth but loose the sub. Does anyone know what the sound quality is like if aftermarket root taken without the sub, I'm assuming a fairly easy install, double din adapter some kind of amp bypass etc. Option 3 does give me the option of having a go at fixing the original radio which is very appealing to me as I like to tinker Sorry if I went a little off topic a little, my bad.
  18. Here are some links that might be of interest: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1350452 http://www.freewebs.com/howardsvolvos/driveline.htm Scroll down to "Transmission fluid change " http://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-s60-10/where-buy-mobil-3309-atf-san-jose-ca-44249/ http://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-s60-10/transmission-issue-engine-revs-car-does-not-move-47042/ Hope that helps a bit, I will post more as I find them, but it seems pretty obvious if you trace the AW boxs fitted to other manufacturers the Mobile 3309 keeps cropping up and I have seen on a few forums with Mods who work for the maker eg volvo saab etc that Mobile make the ATF which is then rebadged for different manufacturers. Just as a side note I've not actually managed to find an alternative to T-TIV at a decent price and I'm not willing to risk fully synths as some things I have read suggest that the AW boxes designed for T-TIV dont like it and who am I to argue with the techs that design the boxes. With regards to Castrol, I did read somewhere that they do make a T-TIV equiv but dont know much about it I'm afraid.
  19. I will have to try and re find the stuff but I was kind of glazing over after 4 hours lol. I will try and retrace my steps but I'm pretty confident of the Mobil connection.
  20. Hi From my research (bloody hours and hours!) mobile 3309 ATF is the same as Toyota T-TIV and a lot of knowledgeable oil blokes say they make it for Toyota, whether that is true I can't say buy it seems that way. Apparently they make the ATF for Volvo's that use the AW boxes too and that is also the same as T-TIV. As far as I can tell AW is a sub division of Toyota anyway. There are some Fully synthetic ATF fluids out there that are allegedly up to or exceed the T-TIV specs but I would suggest you check these out for yourself as I don't mean to be unhelpful I just don't want to recommend anything I haven't been able to check out fully my self. There is an oil company that I have heard good things about in the past called Opie Oils, I've never actually bought anything from them but a quick look at their website suggests they have alternative ATF's that meet the T-TIV specs, but again I would recommend giving them a ring as they seem very expensive per litre. Why are we so ripped off in this country! Hope that helps a bit. Couple of links, you will see its fairly pricey stuff, maybe the toyota dealers would be cheaper, not checked myself yet. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/ http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-60163-fuchs-titan-atf-4400-automatic-transmission-fluid-for-japanese-cars.aspx http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-1052-amsoil-synthetic-automatic-transmission-fluid-atf.aspx
  21. Had a look at the DVLA mot site thingy, it seems that a lot of the potentially expensive work has been done for me already so should be ok for a year or two. I will however getting my friendly mechanic to give her the once over with regards to all mechanicals when its up on a ramp, I just like to be thorough. Cheers for the tip Malc I will use that site again.
  22. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been so helpful and positive when I've asked daft questions. Your persuasion that I would not regret buying a 400 has proved to be absolutely spot on. I have to admit I haven't got round to all the little jobs that need doing as you tend to have to stop driving the damn thing to work on it! I can honestly say, having driven many cars in my life right up to a Bentley (Wasn't mine), that I have never felt so relaxed whilst driving before. Its official I have actually fallen in love with driving again :) Thanks to you all.
  23. Hi Phil, I was going to check out the sunroof drain holes but I guess this thunderstorm will check them for me, fingers crossed.
  24. Sorry to jump in on someone else thread, but I've just managed to fix my front ciggy lighter issue but it wasn't a fuse. I know this may sound daft but double check that the plug that powers the lighter just behind the ashtray is pushed all the way home...mine wasn't but it did look like it was. Spent ages looking for problem but could find then thought just double check all the connections are really tight a second time, bingo! Just as a matter of interest, where exactly is the interior fuse box? Yes I have searched, googled, and crawled around under the steering column, if its there I must be going blind! PS If you take apart the ashtray housing to get at the ciggy lighter be very very careful you don't loose the little springs in there (two of them). One of mine pinged out and down a drain luckily it works still with one, although a little slower.
