  1. Hello Piers, Yes I overcame the problem with the help of a chap on a CCTV Forum who guided me through setting up 'Port forwarding' and everything seems to be working a treat now.
  2. Hello ColinBarber, thank you for your help with this, as always, much appreciated. As I mentioned in my first post, I was able to connect the charger via the rear seats which helped enormously. Because of this I was able to leave it on until there was enough charge for me to open the tailgate. I had my fingers crossed that I didn't have to get into 'The great escape' mode and wriggle my way into the boot to get at the release mechanism for the tailgate. All is well now thank you. Whilst not using the car much during the lockdown, I must keep my eye on things a little better. Thanks again for the help. Enjoy the sunshine.
  3. Hello folks, when I went to use the car this morning I found that I had a completely flat battery and so that was that! I think that the problem revolves around the fact that I must have unknowingly altered the settings on my DashCam and the parking mode has gone beyond the safety cut-out mechanism resulting in the dud battery. Some time ago I connected a battery charger to my 12v battery on a semi-permanent basis to help me overcome such a situation. Fortunately I am able to get at the charger via the rear seats and have connected it all up. What is concerning me at the moment is the fact that there is a constant buzzing at the front of the car that I cannot explain, it is quite noticeable if I put my ear close to the radiator grille. If this buzzing was coming from the actual charger I wouldn't be quite so concerned. Anyone have any thoughts on this please? The battery is so flat that I can't even get any ignition lights on and cannot open any windows to put the lead through rather than leaving the door slightly open. Also I cannot open the tailgate which would have given me easier access to the battery. Is there a way to open this without power? I would have struggled somewhat if I hadn't fitted the charger when I did. Any help/guidance will be much appreciated. Thank you.
  4. My insurance premium at renewal on the first of this month was increased by 23% simply because I am now over 80! My insurer doesn't take into consideration that I have passed the Advanced Driving Test either! I decided that this was unfair and so shopped around and ended up back with a previous insurer and saved £101.00. Well worth spending a little time scanning the market. I still got all of the benefits that were available with my previous insurer with the plus of slightly less by way of excesses.
  5. When I wash my car, I always unlock it, open and close one of the doors and then put the key on the shelf at the back-end of the garage and then no problems. if I just unlock it without opening a door, then it will lock itself again. I'm pretty sure that my car won't lock itself again if I have opened and closed one of the doors. I would have to physically do it myself.
  6. Having read the many posts on this subject my mind rests a little easier now. However, I do have a question that might be of interest to others. Most of us know that there are specific jacking points on most cars and, I am wondering if any (costly?) damage is done by these thieves when they simply push their jack under the car to get at the CATCON as quickly as possible. Just a thought!
  7. Thanks for that Phil. I must admit to not thinking about looking on the Toyota/Yaris forum, of which I am a member, need to get my old grey matter into gear!!
  8. There has not been an answer to my question about the noise made when removing the converter. I have just been to the link provided by Lexus Parts Direct and they say that the thieves use "High powered hand tools" to remove it. Surely that will entail making quite a din and would wake the whole neighborhood if carried out at night. Have these no goods got the nerve to do it in broad daylight and if so, do passers-by not regard the activity as suspicious but don't say anything for fear of losing a limb to the high powered hand tools? I will try to find out what happened to the two vehicles that were done close to me.
  9. I have the NX 300h and my wife has the Yaris. Why the difference with the RX?
  10. Hope this doesn't sound too much of a stupid question. How much noise would be made by anyone stealing a catalytic converter? Do they have to use something like an angle grinder or is is simply a case of them undoing a few nuts and bolts? Our cars are parked beneath the bedroom window and my initial thought is that any activity around the cars would be heard quite easily. The dog would probably start barking too! The reason that I'm asking this is because just this week, two cars within 1/2 mile of my home have had theirs taken. I have heard that Toyotas are classed as a prime target, my wife has a Yaris.
  11. I have been following this thread with interest and have discovered that I can't get Apple CarPlay installed in my car and, the USA company that makes a unit that would help, only supplies and fits locally and won't get involved in exporting them. We then have mention of 'Android Auto' and I start to become confused again! And now, we have an interesting link provided by Andy B which confuses me even more. Now as a reminder, I have a November 2014 NX300h Luxury with Convenience Pack. Can I ask you more techie minded members, are either of the units mentioned by Eddie and Andy likely to work in my car please? I don't know what 'Android Auto' is and neither do I know if it is fitted in my car and indeed, I have no idea exactly what is fitted in my car. I just know that if I press this button I get this, and if I press that button I get that but, as to what is behind those buttons 'I aint not got the foggiest, not no how I aint'😕 I just like having all the bells and whistles, even though it takes me an age to get to grips with them all. I boobed when I bought this car because I thought I wouldn't miss what I had on my Premier IS.................but I do😞
  12. Cor Blimey John (as they say in the East End) I can't get over how much you look like me! It weren't me m'lud, it was im over there!
  13. Very best wishes for a Very Happy Christmas to all members and for 'hopefully' a much better 2021 than 2020 was for us. With big thanks to all for the fantastic input and help provided throughout the year. Stay safe and enjoy. Things will get better.
  14. As per the link provided by pobrown. This is the best source for your update without doubt. they are very helpful. The update provide by Lexus is way too expensive. I have contacted them several times asking them to do something about their prices and although they say they will 'refer it up', nothing ever happens.
  15. I have just heard back from these people. They don't export, they only supply and fit locally. Hopefully someone in the UK might come up with something.
  16. I wonder how soon someone in the UK might come up with something similar.
  17. Anyone on here actually purchased and fitted one of these? If so, was it fairly straightforward and was any import duty payable? Retrofit CarPlay Lexus NX 2014 - 2020 | CarPlayTech (applecarplay.net)
  18. Some good points there Nick, of particular interest to me are the maps that you can get on your phone. When my wife is with me we always find it a better bet for her to get our destination on her phone whilst we are travelling. Lexus tell me that my car isn't updateable to CarPlay and so I am wondering if anyone knows of anything else that is available so that I could get that would get the maps onto my in-car system.
  19. I purchased one of these Jason. Not too sure if it's the sort of thing that you are looking for but might just be worth a look. MXS 5.0 UK CTEK Consumer
  20. 'Morning chaps, Hope you're all well. My car is going in for a 'Full Service' tomorrow and I always feel a little apprehensive about it. My car was first registered in November 2014 (64 plate) and as of today it has 33250 miles on the clock. I always tend to wonder, because of the low mileage, if the dealer actually does what is listed in the service manual as there is probably little evidence of wear. An instance would be, the manual says that the Rear Differential Oil should be changed, how would I know that this has been done? It might get a tick on the worksheet but..........I suppose it's down to how much do I trust the dealer. Another important point, and bearing in mind that I have a service plan in place, is that the spark plugs are normally replaced at 60k miles, now I know that this is a fairly expensive part of the service schedule and this cost would have been included in my payment if the 5th or 6th service fell due in the plan period (which is approximately when 60k miles would usually be reached) but, with my car only having done 33K they almost certainly won't get done and, it is probably unlikely that the car will have reached the 60K mark by the time the next 'Full Service' falls due in 2022. Any thoughts on this?
  21. I can't have CarPlay installed in my car but I've been following this thread with interest. Got a little confused though with the last couple of posts. Can someone explain APC/ACP please.
  22. I've been on the Club Lexus site and a number of them have had their screens replaced under warranty, I contacted my dealer and it's a no go with them. Some in the states who haven't succeeded with a warranty claim, have cleaned their screen up by using nail polish remover.
  23. Hopefully someone will have an answer John. It looks as though a Brillo pad was used on mine🤣
  24. Just out doing a bit of in-car tidying this morning and the sun was shining on the satNav Screen, what a bloomin' mess!! I've not noticed it before (at least I don't think I have) and it's really bad. Obviously done by the previous owner I should think. Is there anything available that might polish the scratches out along with a bit of elbow grease? Anyone else had the problem?
