  1. Hiya folks Got what is a bit of a poser question so comments welcome. I have noticed a grumbling type noise whilst driving along, it seems to be coming from the drivers front wheel, it also speeds up and slows down with the driving speeds. It is not always there either. At first i thought instantly... wheel bearing. Alas not, the car was checked by a local garage and they found no issue of concern, even stated it was the tyre tread pattern causing it. To test this i swapped the entire wheel with one of the rears and travelled some roads i normally use, the noise was from the same area of the front. With the front wheel off i spun the disc to listen and feel for issues, couldn't tell anything untoward. The car has just passed it's mot with no advisories, i even asked the tester to scrutinise the bearing, he said no problem found. I am now befuddled as to what it may be. Any ideas ?????? P.S. what is the part number for a Ls 430 front wheel bearing, and appox cost and are they just from lexus?
  2. Lets hope he never becomes a member of this forum which thrives on questions and answers. Mike Agreed, this forum is such a good place to be, friendly, helpful, full of advice and some funny comments to boot
  3. hi it wont play MP3s but it will play burned audio discs - or if you want to play music from your MP3 player or phone then the cheapest option is to buy a cassette adaptor which comes with a headphone jack - music quality is very good and it also works a handsfree kit if you get a call Hiya For info, the Ls430 don't play mp3 cd's either, it will play computer burned discs either copies of albums you have or your very own compilations. The tape cassette adapter is sweet for me, got all my albums on my ipod touch connected via the cassette, so i don't even get to hear the whir of the cd changing The storage bin between the seats is way big enough for the ipod and adapter so the clean lines are kept clean. Even the wife likes it, that means she's up to sumthin in my book, or broke sumthin i've not found yet
  4. I would say he's got a novel approach to selling. Just to be curious i asked if i could see a few more pics the full sides etc, also asked if there had been any water ingress to the boot, repaired accident damage etc. What are the wheels and tyres condition. I think these are very sensible requests and most sellers cater for these in the adverts from the get go. His reply was that the pictures are more than good enough to make my bid or buy it now. I replied good luck on the possibility of selling the car as without this info i won't bid. He replied.... your loss says it really
  5. Hiya You could try a chatting to a tyre fitting company like Quikfit etc, ask them the same question you already asked. I don't have those fittings on my Ls, could the car operate and you survive without those kind of valves and just run normal valves like most other cars. Worth thinking about
  6. People often target bad points, we all do it without thinking most of the time, don't matter whether it's cars, sport or whatever. For me the Ls400 i sold and the current Ls430 have been without doubt the best cars i have owned, including the small jobs that need doing like strut failure etc. I can't find any bad points with my own car, apart from it needs a good clean at the moment, some pesky bird aimed a good turd at me and scored a hit on the bonnet. The beauty for me of this forum is the group share knowledge to find fixes for bad points.
  7. My Ls430 53 plate has a DVD based sat nag, the DVD unit is located in the boot, remove the cover over the spare wheel, now look to the right of the wheel you will see a panel that can be removed, the DVD sat nag unit is located in there. And it don't play movies, or music discs
  8. My insurance i originally started for the Ls400 i sold runs out in Nov, swapped her off and replaced with the Ls430 when i got her, had it on a multi car with a 59 punto grande, me as policy holder on Ls and Wife as policy holder on punto, we are both as named drivers on each others policy. Both have over 10yrs ncd, and the total bill was for £485 including street parking. Will let you know what i get when it comes to renewal.
  9. Nice to see you plugging at the bonnet struts, may be worth keeping the forum updated on the usage of them The originals are prone to failing after time and we all may need to replace in time.
  10. Hiya Dunno how he did it, i left car and parts with him, collected car in the evening completed. Sorry can't help further than that. Will ask next time i see him as garage is very local to me. Chris
  11. Hiya I replaced the front shocks on my old P plate Ls400. Never did the rears so i cannot help there. Got them from Sutton Auto Factors online shop http://www.buypartsb....uk/?autospares Type your reg into the box on right side of screen and look to see what bits they may have. If the car is the one on your avatar then the fronts for yours will be £58.25 each. The shocks i got were Excel-G Twin Tube Gas Pressure, same as they sell now. I had a shop near me so i collected them. Simple fit by the mechanic, he said they are a good make. I noticed the difference in the car to the worn old ones that came off. Hope it helps. Chris
  12. Hiya Very nice car indeed, inside and out. You should be well proud of her. After all the little issues you've had sorted it should run like a trooper and stick a huge big grin on your face wherever you go. Happy motoring
  13. Separated at birth, I reckon :) Birth, you mean i was actually born, hot damn that's a scary thought I call it the handsome look, bald is beautiful so my wife says
  14. Whats wrong with it? That will polish out, add a full valet and you won't know. Seriously though, it's a sad end to any vehicle's life especially an Ls, 1 old girl less on the road, it just shows how strong they are to have written off a 6ton truck, she did her job well and protected the driver
  15. Welcome to the club. Looks a stunner. My bonnet struts were shot on my Ls400 when i got it, they were still shot a year later when i sold it to get my Ls430, i got some of them cheaper ones seen on a well known auction site, they lasted about 20 openings of the bonnet, and i don't let the bonnet drop, got my money back, steer clear of them ones. Glad i saved the old ones. After the few bits you going to do she should be spot on for a few years yet. good luck and enjoy the smiles per miles
  16. Hiya I had a P plate Ls400 Mk3 for a year, the comfort level was superb, plenty of miles covered in her as well, had a few minor niggles which were not to difficult or expensive to sort. Friend of mine had a 52 Ls430 and was going on his hols so he asked me to take him and wife + 1 young un to Heathrow and back to Nottm. My love affair with the Ls430 started then, i knew my Ls400 was good, but the Ls430 felt and drove better, it has more gadgets for those who want them. I decided to swap out my Ls400 for a FSH 53 Ls430 with 60k miles for a good price. Photos here http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=78239. After 3 months of having the car i'm still smiling when i drive it, used it to help out with transporting my brother in laws wedding guests last month, they were all amazed at the car. My personal opinion is go for a Ls430, you won't be disappointed. Chris
  17. Hiya folks I'm not the most computer literate person on earth, i have tried searching for posts by user Haylands, there are many, several pages worth. I cannot seem to find this titbit of info on the maintenance screen. :eerrrmm: Would it be possible for someone to shed a link on here to the post Many thanks
  18. Hiya mate When i grabbed some spare wheels for my old LS400 i used this site http://www.shiply.com/index6.php You place an advert and people contact you and tell you how much they will take for picking them up and delivering them, and you can negotiate dates as well. The wheels i bought came from Bournemouth and they had no packaging at all, and were in good order, delivery guy didn't seem worried about packaging, maybe some will but i can't be sure on that. Chris
  19. Hiya I had Falken ZE 912 95v, 225/55/16 tyres all round on my old P reg LS 400. Cost £300 for them inc delivery. Well happy with them, smooth ride, quiet and good traction in both wet and dry, would have took them to my newer LS 430 but they don'y fit Chris
  20. Hiya I think this link can answer some of your questions http://lexusownerscl...Sheet LS430.pdf And this link may help as well http://www.lexusowne...showtopic=77968 From my own car i can tell you this.... It was advertised as premium package, has wood steering wheel and veneer's around the doors and dash. If you get close to a prospective 430, look in the wheel arches, you will spot the air suspension, also there is a button on the centre consol to adjust it, just under the CD loading drawer. The rear arm rest when pulled down has buttons that control the rear massage seats through a few settings each seat. The stereo facia has Mark Levinson written on it just above the volume control. DHP is over my head at the moment as i'm still new here too Chris
  21. Hiya again folks Couple of things to ask here. Can you connect an Ipod touch to the LS430 simply If not can you tell me this. Does the Mark Levinson stereo head unit have a line in socket on the back of it, reason i ask is this. Thinking of getting one of these from Halfords as part of my Xmas box http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_856067_langId_-1_categoryId_265865 Has anyone had one fitted, if so how and by whom Anyone think it's not worth the effort Chris
  22. Thanks for the help guys, wife says she will buy the disc as part of Bday present so quids in with that. Photos of car including one of the roadhawk dash cam i have fitted (not good with cameras so apologising now) http://s1168.photobucket.com/albums/r484/maduggo/?action=view&current=car1.jpg http://s1168.photobucket.com/albums/r484/maduggo/?action=view&current=car2.jpg http://s1168.photobucket.com/albums/r484/maduggo/?action=view&current=car3.jpg Hope i got it right :hocus-pokus:
  23. Hiya folks I have got myself a 53 plate LS430 62K miles in Bronze (more like gold to me but lexus say it's bronze) for £4.5k, full history apart from this year, now completed in good order. Draws a lot of attention in our staff car park, damn it's a fine car. Paint job done to a small area around the nearside front wing where it meets the front bumper under the headlight, cost £120 by chipsaway, looks stunning now, wish i took a photo before and after. Only issue it does have is the DVD satnav, it has a disc in the unit and it runs ok, but i wish to update it to the current latest DVD map. Lexus dealer in Nottm quoted over £180 including fitting, i'm sure i can get it cheaper from elsewhere but they did not give me a part number to work with. The disc i have has DVD Navigation Map Europe, Ver 1st 2001, 86271-24120, 86271-70V310A printed on the front. I've been told i can get an update dvd online for £40 but it's a copy, sorry but i would rather spend the extra for genuine Lexus parts So the question is.... What is the part number or version number i need for the latest DVD to work in my car Will it update the firmware (not technically minded but i assume this is what drives the DVD unit) Any info would be greatly appreciated Ta muchly Chris
  24. I will wait with baited breath for the outcome of your test, hope it works, if it does then i can try the same fix :) Can you send me a link to the switch you purchased for reference.
