I have a CEL on my Dash with an error P0017. Asked them to check it at Lexus when I had my recall done and they told me nothing that I didn't already know for £138 and wanted to strip the engine down and check the cam chain. The car runs and drives fine and I think I would notice is the timing chain had skipped a tooth. The Light comes and goes randomly at its own accord. That said it may not be related as my car has just gone over 50K. I must say though that for 5K I might have just looked at stripping the hybrid components and selling them for decent money (They can fetch more than the whole car now) and stuck in an engine/ECU from a GS300 or a big V8.

LOL That's weird.. On the email notification It showed as 163 duty/tax and I was but £50 isn't too bad. In the past I used to pick things up for my 200SX from the states so I normally work it out at about +27% for Duty/Tax. So dependant on carriage they look like they amount to about £240 to the door. Not bad at all.

Hi All, Are there any Lexus specialists or does anyone have any good experiences of garages in the midlands, preferably in the vicinity of Derby/Nottingham that are NOT main dealers? I own a 06 GS450H and currently have the check engine light on. I have diagnosed the fault via OBD and I am pretty certain that the issue is the VVTI Solenoid is not functioning correctly at random intervals. The main problem is that Derby Lexus are not willing to replace the VVTI solenoid on the car on my say so they want to do a full diagnostic costing £60 per half an hour and they will call after an hour and ask if I want to progress with the fault finding after an hour if they have not found the issue, so potentially I could be looking at a few hundred quid bill before I even get to the work required done. Are there any garages that have experience with Lexus Hybrid that do not charge the earth for diagnostics and small repairs? While I do appreciate it is an expensive car, I don't want to be seen as penny pinching but I don't have the money for a potentially large bill just for diagnosing a fault. Any help would be appreciated :)

Hi All, Recently I have had the CEL come on in my GS450H and after plugging in the OBD2 device it shows the error P0017 Crankshaft Position Camshaft Position Correlation Bank1 Sensor B. The car does not seem to run or drive any differently although the odd time it does seem to be a bit more revvy that normal. The strange thing is that the CEL will come and go at random sometimes staying off for a week+ depending how many times I drive it. There are no other error codes which would be apparent if the timing chain had skipped a tooth and the car would be idling/driving badly but I am not getting any of that. The CEL is also just on amber and from what I have read it would have flashed and popped up another OBD error code if it has had a misfire. I do however get a random rattle on startup but that has been happening since I have owned the car and a lot of other owners have had the same with no further problems. The car is just coming up to 50K on the odo. I will admit that I hadn't had the car serviced for a while (About 18 months out) as I do very little mileage in it (4K A year) rarely getting about 60mph on my 6 mile trip to and from work with a few other smaller journeys. But I have just had the oil and filter replaced but the light still comes on. From what I have determined it appears that I have a faulty/randomly sticking VVTi solenoid. Unfortunately at the moment I don't have the money to have it diagnosed and repaired at Lexus so I am going to have to either try and repair myself or have a local, trusted garage do it for me. So does anyone know where the VVTi solenoids are and the procedure to replace them? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi All, I am looking to do an oil change on my GS450H. Now I am pretty certain that the engine requires 5w-30 Fully synthetic oil. Now here is the odd bit, Costco sell Castrol at a great price. So if I go to the Castrol website oil selector recommends Edge 0w-30? If I go to More Recommendations it comes up with Magnatec 5w-30 A1. So why the difference in grades between the versions? The Magnatec is cheaper (about £21 per 4L) but if the Edge is better for the engine I don't mind paying the extra. Oh and do I need any special tools to remove the oil filter? Any help would be appreciated :)

Thanks Ganesh, Luckily one of the guys here at work has a Bluetooth OBD 2 reader so will check it out at lunch. Hopefully its nothing drastic. The car has done just under 50K but admittedly I havnt serviced it in a couple of years as I have done less than 8K in that time. I was getting some stuff sorted so I could get it serviced shortly.. Just my luck.

Has anyone gone another route and replaced them with air ride suspension? I know you can get kits in the states for about £1200 all in shipped bolt on kit..

Cheers all.. Removed the back seat and it was a good job that I did as the foam was a bit sodden but put it on a towel in the kitchen about 3 foot away from the rad with the leather facing away. That seems to have sorted the back seat. The front seat was ok to the touch but if I felt underneath it was a bit damp so I got one of these http://www.wilko.com/insulation/kilrock-gel-safe-moisture-trap/invt/0286004?VBMST=moisture trap and stuck it under the seats and a couple of the refills and left them on the plastic under the seat. I will refit the seat tomorrow if it stops raining and put the refills in the rear foot wells.

Well i was utterly gutted this morning to go out to my car to find that the windows were all open and it had been raining. My car has only 46K on it and the passenger and rear seats were pristine! Luckily it doesn't appear to have created any puddles or anything and the mats were damp (One wet) when i removed them but only one of the rear foot wells were a little bit wet. So i wiped it all down but where the rain was it had made the black leather go blue :o So i drove it to work with the blowers on full and the temp on the heater up and it seems to be drying out. Utterly gutted as I like to take care of my cars... I am hoping that it hasnt sunk into the foam or anything else. Is there a way to disable this "Feature" as this is the second time its happened to me but luckily enough the first time was just when i got the car and it was a nice sunny day. Yeah its a funky feature but i would rather not have the chance of this happening again than having the facility that i use probably once a year when walking to my car on a hot day.. Well after nipping out to check it at lunch it appears that the drivers side rear seat base is pretty wet to the foam.. :( I will remove when i get home. Would i be right in saying that i need to pull it up hard from the front of the seat about 8-12" in on either side?

I thought there was a way to sort the auto locking out. I was actually reading about it a little while ago. I cant recall the exact term but its a service that is provided and can be done once for free as long as the car is still under service interval. Will try and found out what its actually called. Maybe its only doable on the MK3 but i definitely remember that it could be done. -
My car has the ML Audio and the previous owner had the official lexus ipod cable fitted. Stupid thing with the fitting kit is that its very short and goes to the glovebox. So I just got one of the older gen3 nanos and stuck a load of music on it, created 5 playlists (VERY IMPORTANT) and away you go. The way to access it by the screen is to press the disk button so it shows the round disk icons then each button 1,2,3 etc will correspond to a playlist.

Great Guide... Mine squeeks a little every now and again even though its only done 43K AND the calipers were replaced about 10K ago... Surely this comes under inherant fault? I have heard people that have had them replaced about 5 times? My car is out of warrantly and i wont be able to get them replaced and as this is my first Lexus its really annoying that such a great (And expensive) car suffers from a fault that doesnt happen on even the cheapest of cars. Would it not also have been a good idea for Lexus to add regreasing the lower pin to the service points every year? It would stop this issue and renew faith in their service?
