  1. The Biographer of the first honest politician.
  2. "Firstly, the figures you have quoted don't seem to add up quite right - £5000 over 36 month @ £175/month works out at 8.6% flat which equates to something like 17% APR (this is a very rough calculation) NOT the 7% APR you had been quoted." I think that the monthly repayment figure includes insurance. Some lenders include this automatically and then hide your rights in the small print..
  3. 'bout right according to Parkers mate - maybe 1k too rich. that car was 63k new 6 years ago depreciation is a bitch ← July Trade for a manual is £19.8K @ 30,000 miles. Trade mark up on these is as much as £5k.
  4. Or if I kick you in the nuts ................. ;) ← Fair enough but why do my lights and warning percentage show up and nobody elses is visible?
  5. What are the little blue squares on the bottom left of my member details and what does "Warn (0%) mean?
  6. Dictionary.com says that the plural of Nexus is Nexus or Nexuses so you might be right about Lexuses being the correct plural. Another online dictionary says that Lexus is made up of a mix like Luxury EXports to the US
  7. SON-DASPOL-KIT for me please. Carry on for a reasonable period if there is a sensible chance of more discount I say.
  8. Good thread this as I have spent as much in the last fifteen years buying and selling watches as I have cars. As with everything in life beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To try and compare a Rolex to a Breitling is not really fair. One is a decent quality brand, mainly producing chronograph watches mostly using as a base the Valjoux 7750 movement. This is the stock (ETA) chronograph ebauche used by dozens of mainline and second line watch manufacturers. The best of them, such as IWC and Panerai take this basic ebauche and very highly modify it to a degree that can make it almost unrecognisable from its original. Breitling do a certain amount of modification but not as much as some others. Rolex on the other hand started to make their own chrongraph movement a few years ago and it is manufactured by them and used exclusively by them in their Cosmograph Daytona model. The original "Paul Newman" Daytona used a modified version of the Zenith El Primero movement. All Rolex movements and cases are now manufactured in-house and all are submitted to the Swiss institute to be chronometer graded. Having said that I would not put Rolex in the top 5 watch makers and some would struggle to give them a top ten rating. Their movements are not in the same class as those from Patek Phillipe, Jaeger le Coultre, A Lange & Sohne, Blancpain, Breguet, Chopard etc. As for digital "watches" they are, practically by default, quartz powered and would not be considered as a proper watch by the horology sect. Still, what do they know, I have owned and loved quite a few quartz watches including a Breitling Aerospace but I lost a lot of money on it when I sold it on and these days would not pay more than £100 for a non mechanical watch. Sorry to be a bit long winded but I get carried away with this subject at times.
  9. Do you know if this grille would fit a 2002 IS 300 Sport X? Cheers, Kent.
  10. You're probably right but I'm not a lover of mechanical "hoodies", if you've got it then at least admit it. Whilst LOC is made up of intelligent, well spoken people once you step out into the real world then it is full of the less well informed who have no idea what a Lexus is. At least by badging it modestly you are helping to educate the wider public :D
  11. I don't! I thought that V6 referred to the number of cylinders so therefore at 4 valves per cylinder it becomes a 16 valve or V16 although I have never seen it referred to in this way. Technically I'm way out of my depth of course, all i was really looking at was the aesthetics. I do take on board the (always constructive)comments from everybody and I am starting to have second thoughts already.
  12. My IS 300 Sport X Lexus came debadged at the rear and I thought this looked a bit bare so I have put the LEXUS wording in the middle as you can see. I rather fancy a V6 badge and I have shown very roughly what I have in mind in the pic below. Does anybody have any ideas/thoughts on this and where might I buy a V6 emblem to match the LEXUS lettering (or close).
  13. Might be to do with your preferences, avoiding toll roads or not, always use motorways etc. Yep! Works now on mine. I had enabled all of the Motorway/Toll Road etc options but have just upgraded my DVD so I assume it may have reset it. Distance to Monaco now agrees roughly with the Michelin Map.
  14. No, I was stationary, but will try again. I am still very surprised that it could be mistaken by 200 miles ← I tried again with same results :duh: I wonder wheter the Lexus is counting the sea distance between Dover and Calais? ← I put Monaco Palace in as a destination in my unit this morning and it shows a distance of 1,307 miles from Blackpool. Blackpool to Dover is around 310 miles so my Sat Nav tell me that Dover to Monaco is slightly under 1000 miles. I am using 2004/5 Version one (the current one) on an IS 300. However the Michelin site is definitely accurate and it shows it at 200 miles or so less so I assume that the route chosen by the Sat Nav is quite different.
  15. Funny things Sat Nav. Have you actually started off on the route until the voice guide takes over? I think that just imputting a route will give you an inaccurate figure until you get going. Probably calculates it as the crow flies. I have been as far as La Manga and it was not uncommon for the distance to adjust itself a few hundred yards into the journey. Kent.
  16. When do you think your kit will be launched and roughly how much? Do you do fitting as well? My IS 300 SportX is standard in every way and stopping power seems fine although I don't thrash it. The big problem apart from cosmetic is dust. My wheels look as though they have been up a chimney after two or three days driving.
  17. If that is true (and I don't for one minute doubt you) then it is the most bizarre piece of business logic I have ever heard. Don't they want customers? I have travelled all over France and Spain and all of the Toll roads have been on whatever Sat Nav I was using at the time. Who owns the M6 Toll road company? Mr J Prescott must be the CEO.
  18. Mine is an IS 300 Sport X with the unit by the spare wheel in the rear so yours might be located differently. However all I had to do is expose the front of the DVD player by loosening one screw and removing another. You will then see a slot for the DVD and beside it a slider. Push this slider across and you will expose the eject button. Push this and out slides the disc. (make sure your ignition key is turned to on although I didn't need to have the engine running) Kent.
  19. Yes, as the current one has map info up till October 2003 and Lexus GB say they update every 12 to 18 months then that sounds about right.
  20. Not supposed to do it but I'm reliably told that so many high value vehicles (BMWs, Audis etc) have had the original DVD Rom removed (probably because of the huge cost of replacement) that some people, even small dealers, take copies of everything that passes through their hands. So the answer is probably yes, probably illegal, but so long as it is not for resale I can't see any problem. Kent.
  21. Did it before on a GS 300 after starting to use Shell Optimax and it seemed to run smoother although I did not keep the car long enough to check MPG. This time, as a new driver in the car and also using Optimax I thought a reset was in order.
  22. Just to answer my own question. Yes they seem to be. I have got hold of a couple of discs from a Toyota Avensis and the later one is a 2004/5 Version 2 disc . This is the latest available disc upgrade number for the IS according to Lexus. I put this in this morning to replace my existing 2001 Ver 1 disc and it upgraded straight away with no problem. The paperwork which comes with it is stamped Toyota but the actual disc is unbranded. To illustrate just how far Toyota/Lexus are behind in their mapping information this (latest ) disc contains info from NAVTEQ up to October 2003. This means that although it is called 2004/5 its database is actually only up to October 2003 which explains why it will not contain the M6 toll road which did not open until December 2003. I will now be able to lessen the cost of buying this new DVD by selling the two extra ones that I now have. One is the original 2001 Ver 1 and the second is Ver 1st 2002. Kent.
  23. Yep..... Either remove the same two fuses in the engine bay fusebox for 2 mins or disconnect the battery. ← Thanks for such a quick reply. Kent.
  24. Is the ECU reset for the IS 300 SportX the same procedure as that for the IS 200? Much obligrd, Kent.
