  1. I had a knocking noise the other week, turned out I hadn't put the cover over the battery terminal properly...
  2. Had a hilarious quote from Toyota for a new one. £3888 with the VAT! I think I'll pass, that's nearly £1k more than my entire car is worth.
  3. Teehee, it does sound a bit sinister, doesn't it? A bit of an in-joke we used to have where I worked a few years ago. Boot sizes were rated on "how many bodies you could get in it". I think Jaguars were usually a popular starter for that conversation. Just to clarify, my previous job was in tree surgery, not bumping people off!
  4. And here is my IS300 dvd drive. They look identical to me. Is there any reason that anyone can think of that they'd not be interchangeable with each other?
  5. Here is a picture of a SatNav unit which my research tells me is from a Prius. Part number 86841 47030
  6. I thought you could get piggy-back ECUs that bypassed the original ECU?
  7. I'm thinking along the same lines. Just a case of "how many bodies can you get in the boot" of a GS!
  8. I'm going to do some checks later. If the Lexus dvd drive looks the same as a Toyota one, I'm going to try one from a Toyota. Some people have some very unrealistic prices for these archaic units; a breaker wanted £360!
  9. That's right, I either want to repair the factory system, or I'm wondering whether a dvd unit from a GS or similar would be compatible to replace it. I've heard that the dvd unit from a Prius will work. I'm not remotely bothered about having a Toyota screen on the satnav boot up. That was one of the reasons I bought the car in the first place, that it's a Toyota! :winky:
  10. My SatNav has pretty much given up the ghost in my SportCross and I am curious as to what replacement system could be fitted. I am happy with the dvd system, but wondered if it was compatible with any (cheaper) Toyota units? An IS dvd unit seems to cost around £3-400, whereas a Toyota unit can be picked up for around £30. I'd really be grateful for any assistance, as I do like having my SatNav.
  11. I went shopping the other day, parked up to admire my SportCross and saw the exhaust tip was hanging off by a thread! Considering I'd just been driving along a dual carriageway a few minutes ago, I was appalled at what could have happened. I pulled the tip away from the backbox, so now I have a question. Is it possible to get a SportCross backbox, or is it wiser to get a full system? I've been quoted about £400 for a new stainless system. I did a search and saw other people had fitted sedan exhausts to their SportCrosses, but they had melted the rear bumper! No evidence of that...yet.
  12. I'm sure my SatNav unit has failed in my SportCross and I am curious as to whether any particular Toyota units are compatible if the original is removed. I don't know any ins and outs whatsover if it is possible. Thanks for any help.
  13. Oh. I've tried that and it's had no effect whatsoever. The dvd still shows up for about 3 seconds then claims it can't be read. I'm really thinking I need to replace the dvd unit, now. Any other wise suggestions?
  14. I have a 2002 IS300 SportCross with the factory Sat Nav. When I first bought it, the Sat Nav was a bit patchy, frequently saying it couldn't read the disc, so I replaced it with one from Satnavi.com. This worked perfectly for a while, now I get a message saying there is no disc present. Also, occasionally, if I turn on the Sat Nav, it works for a few seconds before the message pops up again. Do I need a new DVD unit? Is it a case of unplugging the old one and reconnecting a replacement? Sorry for lengthy post, I did a quick search and couldn't really come up with anything, but I'd assume this is a relatively common problem? Thanks for any assistance.
  15. I'm starting to think I've got a problem with my car. When I first got it, I was getting 400 miles to a tank, then it went down to around 350, now I'm very lucky to get 280. My driving style hasn't changed. The 2JZ has "only" done 90k with FSH. Anybody have any ideas?
  16. Sorry, my mistake. It's just that a lot of people seem to refer to CDs and DVDs pretty much interchangeably these days. I also had no idea the old systems ran off CDs. Learn something new every day.
  17. I got one from here for £35 http://www.satnavi.com/ works perfectly and was a 2011 edition.
  18. What fuel do you use? When I first got my IS300 SportCross, it used to start in a similar fashion until I used higher octane fuel. Now it fires up very quickly, even when the battery is almost dead. Might be worth a try.
  19. I find the exact opposite on my IS300. It seems very sluggish from little throttle input, but if I floor it, it takes off like a screaming banshee.
  20. Similarly, I had problems starting; always starts second time (or first with a blip on the throttle). Like Noby76, I filled up with higher octane fuel and it started first time every time. Now I'm back on standard Total fuel, starting problems are instantly back. I wanted to fill up on high octane at the petrol station again last time, but there were no pumps available with it. I'm sure this isn't in my head, either; with higher octane fuels, I get about 400 miles to a full tank, 350-360 on lower octane. I thought I had a dodgy coilpack, as the engine sounds like it is slightly missing, occasionally.
  21. Would Avensis steel wheels fit my IS300 SportCross? I'd like to protect my nice shiny wheels over the winter, at the same time fitting winter tyres. Thanks for any help.
  22. Does anyone have a set of wheels for sale in Sussex at a fair price? Not interested in how they look, so long as they aren't warped or cracked. Not bothered by kerbing. Tyres not required. Thanks.
  23. Went to start the SportCross this morning, nothing, no lights, not even a hint of starter motor. Had the windscreen replaced on Saturday, but I can't see how that would affect anything. Bizarrely it jumpstarted immediately from my wife's Yaris, hooked it up and it fired up at once. I decided to take the jump leads to work, put them in the boot and now that won't open! Just to cap it off, after a 16 mile journey to work, the fuel light came on, although that's enough to make it home. My main concern is the boot not opening. Is there a fuse that's gone, or something more sinister? I have horrendous luck with car batteries, 10 batteries in 12 years.
  24. Can anyone please help? I need an upgrade for my 2002 IS300 as I'm going to Germany next week and my disc is from 2002...If anybody has one or can direct me to one for about £50, you would have my gratitude. Best way to contact me is via drachensturm711@btinternet.com Thanks in advance if anyone can help, as I need it by Monday 6th August...
  25. My first ever car was a 1985 Mazda RX-7 FB, bought the week after I passed my driving test! Insurance was only a few hundred quid more than a 1.2 Subaru Justy, so the car of my dreams just about won that...I had that for a couple of years, then it blew some rotor tips. Whilst it was being repaired, I had a 1.6 Nissan Primera for a few months, which I hated. Got my RX-7 back with a new engine, a fuel injected, turbo charged Japanese exclusive, there were only a handful of them in the country when I had mine. Outrageously quick, used to smoke brand new Porsches. My Mazda love affair ended when I tried to support a local business by having my MOT done there. The MOT cost twice what they quoted, backed up with "by the way, it doesn't start now." I specifically asked them to not touch the fuel computer in the passenger footwell and found a huge dirty footprint on it. Reluctantly got rid of the 7 and bought a Nissan S14 Silvia. Spent lots on modifying it, but it didn't really do anything for me. Then I needed a more economical car for work and got a 1.4 Honda Civic, which was a fantastic little car, getting me to Germany in -20c conditions, with the roads covered in snow. Sadly scrapped that about a week ago, as I needed a bigger car due to recently becoming a parent and that was my IS300 SportCross, which I love. The end.
