  1. Hi folks, Yesterday on a run out to Whitby over the moors and pressing on a bit..my brakes started to vibrate. At first just a little but as time went on got so bad that i actually stopped and checked my wheelnuts as i thought i had a wheel coming loose. Particularly bad if going round a sharp r/h turn on the moors when braking a bit. a real judder. Mainly the front left wheel, and when i checked the nuts, there was also a burning smell from the wheel. After the car was parked for a few hours in Whitby, i drove it back nornally, and the brakes were ok, still a little virbration but could hardly feel it. Presumably this means that i have a warped disc, that gets worse as the brakes get hotter? is there any other reason this could happen? Apart from that the car performed superbly, as they do. thanks folks, Keith
  2. Thanks for all the help folks. Jeremy, Just noticed that you fitted the matsinto an Ls460... Presumably they are not the same as the ls400 ones? Or are they? Will take a look at carmats4u mark and see what I can find. Thanks again folks.
  3. Is it a non removable bearing then? If its not then there must be a bearing that can be fitted in there. Surely you just need the correct size?
  4. Why dont you just take it to a bodyshop and get some idea of the cost of repairs. The insurance co. may well want to write it off, but you will pay more premiums as a result of the claim, even if you have protected ncb, the premium will increase if the ins. co cannot find the culprit to sue. When you have a price for repair at least then you can work out if it will be worth you getting the work done yourself, without the ins co. getting involved. My Merc was keyed and cost 2500 to respray, and the premiums increased by close to 80% over what they had been and that with me having protected NCB.
  5. It's more the fit that I am interested in. The mats I ordered were from Part buyer and were supposed to fit the 2000 ls400 perfectly. They cost £39. They were nowhere near. Several inches too wide and the fixing holes completely in the wrong places. Oh and the fixings that the listing says are supplied and are pictured so you can see what they are, are apparently pictured so you can see what the fixings look like, and re not actually supplied at all! Absolute con. This is the ebay item number. 271057138900 Waiting for the refund now, and I will bet that they won't send me the return postage of close to £12 either and I will have to dispute it with eBay and PayPal. Will let you know what happens.
  6. Hi folks, I need a set of car mats fr my 2000 Ls 400 . I bought a set of tailored mats supposedly for my car from an eBay vendor but they didn't fit, so I have sent them back. Des anyone know where I can get a decent set of carpet mats for my car? I have read old posts that say that a set from a ls430 is a fair fit, but would prefer a perfect fit if possible. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a lot Keith
  7. My brake warning light came on yesterday, and when I checked it, it was a brake light bulb that had gone. I rang Burrows Toyota here in doncaster and asked them if they could fit me in and change it as i was feeling lazy! They told me to come right in, and did the job in ten minutes flat while i had a coffee the receptionist made for me, and the total cost was .....£0. Nice to see good service locally, so i will probably give them a go when i need the next job doing. cheers Keith
  8. Just as an idea...the respray on my Mercedes, cost me £2300 and covered the whole car except the roof. Might give you an idea, but the 400 cars are bigger than the old w124 mercs. So would probably be a bit more than I paid
  9. If you want them polished as opposed to powdercoated and lacquered, then seek out a motorcycle polisher. They are used to highly polishing motorcycle parts such as engine covers and wheels etc. and are set up to do this kind of work. Can't remember who we used to do the engine covers and wheels of my old Harley chop but most bike polishers do a great job, as unless they do, they don't get work. the bike world is very tight knit.
  10. Watched it last night all four parts, so thanks for that. The link you posted let me find the 4 parts Mike. Enjoyed it and doesn't the early Ls400 look good! Cheers Keith
  11. Thanks Mike, I did try looking at google but could not seem to find it at all. Will watch it now, thanks again. Cheers Keith
  12. Will have to look again then mate, as I looked all over for that video, and could not find it anywhere. Cheers
  13. Add me please as well. We should be there if that's ok. Thank you, Keith
  14. Welcome. Haven't been here long myself, but its a great place to hang out, and some super advice to be had as well. They are a great car. Cheers Keith
  15. Coincidence Jon as my car is in sheffield overnight as well, as they didn't have time to finish the suspension work and brakes today. Should be all done tomorrow. Lets hope so anyway.
  16. That's one of the reasons that I am spending a good amount on mine now, and getting all the things that need doing like suspension and brakes renewed at the moment. It's actually going into Sheffield tomorrow to be done. Took me ages to find this one, and I don't want to have to go all through that again. This one is a keeper. Shocked me a bit that figure of only about 1800 left on the road!. Thought there would have been more. Maybe there are more shortsighted folk about that I figured. Mind you I have only seen one other since I have been driving this one, so I thought they were scarce.
  17. I love the car. Only had it a few weeks but its so much better than my old 67k 1990 300E. The good thing about the merc is that its appreciating now fairly rapidly! I hope the LS will do the same! When I drove the Merc across to its new owner and then got the train home and got into the Lexus, it was so much more comfortable, quieter, faster and smother, and I have to say that I am getting about the same in fuel consumption from the V8 as I did from the straight six merc motor, about 23 ish overall so far.
  18. Well my car will have cost me somewhere approaching £3500 in total by the time I have finished replacing all the brakes and suspension that need doing. Selling my 90 Mercedes 300E has more than covered the cost of it anyway. Looks like a lot of money compared to some of the cars that seem to sell on eBay for £1500 or so. But this one will have been fully serviced, new cam belt, water pump, brake discs and pads, suspension wishbones etc. and all the worn components on the brakes and suspension sorted out with new lexus parts, and it runs like a top, just perfect. I realise that some folks will think me crazy for spending what at first glance looks like more than the car is worth, but its worth it to me, And it's here to stay. Over the next year or two I reckon good well serviced with history cars will actually appreciate as they become scarcer. I may even spend more on it and get lpg fitted to it!
  19. I understand that you can get the sat nav updated, where they change the hardware but keep the same screen? I believe that if you do it, you can then use postcodes, speed cameras etc. Anyone done this on an Ls400?
  20. About 3 inches here, and still a slight sprinkling of snow coming down. Looks like its starting to melt though as its not so cold now.
  21. Hre is a link to a repair and lubrication of the column. It might help. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/67627-noisy-steering-column/ Cheers Keith
  22. I have read a bit about this somewhere, but cannot remember where, but as far as i remember they removed the shroud and greased the moveable bits, and that freed it off and it was then working all fine. I am still looking for it, and if I find it I will pst the link here mate.
  23. Steve sorry to bother you on someone else's thread! But how long is it usually before the membership pack is sent out, as I will need my card for some repairs at sheffield next week, or the membership number? Cheers Keith
