  1. I only said it was £36K because that was the figure quoted on the insurance form. I still think it was an excellent car (auto gearbox was brilliant, so was the sports mode) and as I said a real head turner. However if I was paying £30K I would want electric seats and a few other toys. Lexus have always been known for providing a far higher "standard" spec car than Audi, Merc and BMW. Surely in this day and age electric seats are not such a luxury are they?
  2. Hi All, Just spoke to Lexus Glasgow and Lexus uk to compare the main service plan and the essential service plan. Very little difference to be honest and Glasgow were seriously struggling to justify the additional cost. At the end of the day the only major thing they could say was the long life coolant would not be changed by the essential plan, although it would be topped up. They claimed the cost of changing the coolant was £180 plus labour which I seriously doubt, however even if it is there plan is still miles higher in price. Therefore I have switched to the essential plan which works out at £550.80 over 2 years with MOT included and this covers a major and minor service. That is far more reasonable in my opinion.
  3. Thanks for all the great responses and it has got me thinking. I do want to maintain the Lexus history because I want to ensure it is serviced correctly and by people who know what they are doing. This is really more for my our satisfaction than when it is sold on. However I am starting to think that the Lexus essential plan is a far better deal and if I happen to need any extra work done (engine flushes etc) I can get them when it is in. This still maintains my warranty and is also a lexus service (although the main book does not get stamped), appears this could be the best of both world because I have racked my brain and am struggling to think why there is such a big difference between the essential plan and the service plan I have been quoted. Surely services revolve around oil, filters etc. This will be done on both plans and it may just be a few other odds and ends which are not covered. However I will call Lexus UK to see if they can expand on the difference.
  4. I had a IS300h courtesy car on Friday and have not seen any on the roads of Glasgow. I also drove to Newcastle and back on Saturday and still did'nt see any. They are lovely cars and real head turners. I was however surprised that the luxary version I had did not have electric seats. Strange for £36K
  5. Hi David I have called the service manager at Glasgow and am waiting on him calling me back. I would like him to explain to me what is covered in this which is not covered under the Lexus essential plan. To be fair I should have asked at the time but was in a hurry. It is just when you break it down it seems very steep and while I want to maintain my service history I don't want to pay more than I have too. Overall the Glasgow branch were very friendly when I got the car serviced and provided me with a lovely 2013 (1k on the clock) IS300h courtesy car which I had the pleasure of driving about all day. However I was expecting the 3 year plan to be closer to 900 with free mot's. I will wait and see if he calls me back and what his response is.
  6. I have a separate warranty with my finance company so that is covered. I did consider the lexus plan at £159, however Lexus Glasgow advised that only covers a very limited service and the one I have purchased is the full service with the service book stamped. Is the £159 not only for a interm service and this increases if you get the full service? Given the difference in price I am seriously considering getting the Lexus plan because I would be very keen to know what is making up the big difference in price between the two.
  7. Hi Mike I have a IS250 Se 06, manual (yes the road tax is that bad). It is a great car and so refined compared to similar BM's and Audi's. To date I have not had any issues (other than a vsc warning light coming on at the weekend, however I am sure this was just the fuel cap not being on correctly because it went off after 25 miles and I have not seen it since). I also get about the same mileage as quoted above and do notice the difference by using premium unleaded, however I apprepiate that this is a personal choice and has caused much debate over the years. At the miles quoted I would ensure it has the full lexus service history and don't be afraid to call up the last garage to service it because in my experience they are only too happy to help. Servicing at a main lexus dealer is quite expensive (I just got quoted £1035 for a 3 years service plan), however as you say there is not point buying one of these and not looking after it, and if you are close to a couple of dealerships you can play them off against each other. Over all they are great specd cars and you will start looking for excuses to drive them because it is such a nice car. Hope this helps
  8. Hi Iffikhar, This agreement is for the servicing of the car and is not a warranty. Therefore this price only really includes things like oil changes, spark plugs, brake fuild etc. I wish it did include a warranty, however sadly not
  9. Hi All, I just agreed a 3 year service plan with Lexus Glasgow for my IS250 SE (06 reg) and personally think it is very costly. My car has done 67K and the service plan covers the 80K (full) , 90K (interim) and 100K (full). the cost is £1035.00 over 3 years. This is working out at £345 per year. They have advised that I will get half price MOT's but that is really it. I have tried calling Lexus Edinburgh to get another quote, however they have advised that Glasgow is the sister dealership and there price would be the same. Does the price sound reasonable or is it expensive? Given that these are the only two Lexus dealerships close by I am really going to have to use them unless I go to a normal garage, however I am keen to maintain the full dealership history that I currently have in case of any issues.
  10. Hi All, I have also had this "check VSC" warning light come onto my IS250 at the weekend. It was in at Lexus Glasgow on Friday and had it's service (interim). On Saturday I then drove to Newcastle and the car never missed a beat. On the way back I stopped at a petrol station about 20 miles from Carlisie and put in Shell V power. Everything was fine until I got to Gretna and the warning light suddenly came on. It included the abs light and the traction control one but I am sure the main engine management light did not come on. I had just passed a services so drove to the next one about 26 miles away. During the run the car performed as it had all day and there was no clear issues with performance. When I got to the services I stopped the car and restarted it and the lights were still on. I quickly checked the internet and noticed that a lot of people were saying this can be caused by the fuel cap not being screwed on correctly. I got out and reapplied the cap. When I started the car again the light was still on. However about 1 mile up the motorway the light suddenly went off and it never reappeared for the remaining 65 miles. Over the remainder of the weekend I have been out for short runs (to shops etc) and it has never came back on. So fingers crossed it has gone away, however it was very concerning to see it in the first place especially given the fact it was lashing down when rain on the motorway and the car was telling me I had no abs or traction control.
  11. IMO I think high miles is not a major issue IF YOU HAVE A FULL SERVICE HISTORY with the car. Although it is not a cast iron guarantee that nothing will go wrong it does give you a very good insight into how the car has been looked after over the years. As David said it is not normally the engine which is the problem it is all the other parts, however if you can see it has been maintained to a high standard then it gives you a degree of confidence.
  12. I don't think I could get 50 mpg from a Smart car LOL..
  13. Welcome gedi and I am sure you will find gain a lot from the people on the forum I know I have.
  14. Yes Barney i will check it when I get there but I will not make plans to travel in the meantime. This is the first dealings I have had with this garage so I am keen to build a good relationship with them, As you say it is maybe fine, and if it is I can go on Friday at very little notice
  15. My IS250 does the same as Bruce's. I used to have a Mazda 6 sport and when it started the revs jumped to about 2.5k rpm. It even drew comments from people at the school about my wife over reversing the car and she had to explain she was not doing anything. It only done this at the beginning and then settled down and according to Mazda is was perfectly normal.
  16. Thanks for the replies and I think the Newcastle trip will maybe need to be delayed until Saturday. It would have been nice to run the IS300h down and back (for the fuel figures if nothing else). However at least the IS250 will have nice new oil etc if I go on Saturday.
  17. Afternoon All, My IS250 is in for a service at Lexus Glasgow on Friday and I have been promised a IS300h courtesy car for the day. As it happens I may need to travel to Newcastle and back in the same day (approx 300miles round trip). Does anyone know if there is a mileage limit on courtesy cars or any particular rules I need to be aware off
  18. Hi Adrian I have this function on my IS250 reg 06 and all the windows including the sunroof open and close. Therefore I would assume the same applies to the IS300h
  19. I am really sorry to hear about your car and the damage it has suffered. I also had a claim with hastings for my mazda 6 which was written off in a crash and to be honest I can't fault them. very quick and no major issues (the normal under valuing the car insurance trick, which was quickly resolved with supporting evidence). I know this is not the same issue and on one hand I can understand why the insurance company don't want to pay out, but as you have mentioned why break your own console. It don't make sense. I hope you get some sort of agreement sorted out with them, failing that ask for a final response letter and go straight to the ombusman. although that is a very long process and could take a further few months to get anywhere near a conclusion.
  20. Hi All, Do these camera's have the "park" function, which means it will record when you are away from the car, because I have been looking out for one due to little nerds in my street who I don't trust anywhere near my car. Failing that I may need to re-route the battery to fry them if they touch it. (I suspect the camera is the more legal of the two options)
  21. Hi Richard Is this a function that you think my IS250 SE 06 reg will have? If so what is the cost for the dealer to set this up if you don't mind me asking? Cheers Bobby
  22. Hi Bridgy I think the red looks stunning and I am sure it looks fantastic when the sun shines on it (if the sun ever comes out again).
  23. Hi Ishaq In relation to the headlights, I have not had them coming on so not sure if that can be done. Geoff, thanks for the link and I will have a read over this and may have some more questions. Cheers Bobby
