  1. Quite like this, not as chav as some modded cars http://team-upscale.com/on-the-daily/
  2. Welcome, friendly forum, enjoy
  3. Haha, maybe says something about our respective psyche but I have more of an affinity with big tony...
  4. What do,you guys feel about modified ls400?..when I bought mine I must admit I had an eye on sticking an big set of alloys on it and a nice window tint...iv seen some of the cars on the American forums and I like the look....but....my car is a totally original survivor...65k miles, unmarked bodywork and, remarkably, unmarked original wheels in a1 condition.... I do love the way the car looks but I keep looking at the pimped out look haha....now, these cars are sadly undervalued and will I significantly undervalue my old bus by doing this....none of it is irreversible anyway..?....anyway, what are your thoughts.....my car as it is.... May need resized...?
  5. ....hope this works and apologies if a repost, been looking for this for a while....huge sopranos fan and remembered Tonys nephew Christopher had one....cracking screen debut....violence and coarse language warning.... http://lexusenthusiast.com/2007/08/28/tony-soprano-the-lexus-ls-400/
  6. Regardless of,the tit for tat politics, it's an outrage...600 killed recently, 400"CIVILIANS....I would, I must add, feel as strongly if the boot was on the other foot...this is both an abuse of military power and a misuse, or non-use of diplomatic power...
  7. Welcome....you have pm also re car/budget...gbn
  8. Was passed by a proper rat rod in town today, chopped, low, ratty in Matt grey....and got to thinking....wouldn't the ls400 v8 be a superb engine for one of these....modern tech, old school looks....and almost 300 reliable horsepower...imagine the noise of short stack side pipes....il,get my coat....
  9. Am having same problem...I always buy something unusual during summer time but now am going back to university, I really don't NEED my ls...common sense says sell it...but...but...iv owned it briefly but I LOVE it....what would I replace it with....anything comparable is incomparable if you see what I mean and anything else isn't at the races...I may decode to bite the thirst bullet and just keep it as a weekend toy...these cars really get under your skin...
  10. We don't buy these cars for fuel economy. Iv owned many big engined barges and found them all to be much of a muchness....some as low as 17-18mpg round town but most over 30 mpg on long runs....the ls belies it's barn door looks with a cd of .29 as far as I know and this makes it one of the more acceptable long haul cruisers...town driving kills big engined cars....the lowest I have had behaving round town is still 19-21 mpg but as I said 23-27 seems to be my average depending on the ratio town to open road....this is a heavy car with a 4 litre v8 and almost what, 280hp?....pretty good, I expected much less to be fair.... Worst I owed was a '72 volvo 164 3 litre on carbs....it seemed to return 14-16mpg regardless!...my old jag xj /series 3 4.2 rarely saw the SUNY side of 20 mpg either, but it was, in my opinion, the most beautiful salon car of all time so i forgave it daily...
  11. Horses for courses?...the cars that made me realise how good diesel could be were an e39 530 d m-sport manual and a volvo s80 d5...both were acceptable quick, easily turned over 40 mpg, the volvo nearer 50mpg, and the bmw had few compromises as a drivers car....grippy, taut, punchy....but did either of these much more expensive cars compare to my ls400...no, no, NO....the ls isn't just about its remarkable engine, it's about a tactile integrity, a feeling, the knowledge that you are driving a car that was built to the highest standard possible and hang the price....and I have owned almost 200 cars and the ls is the first to give me that feeling....
  12. Mine seems to average 23-27mpg mixed driving and best was long haul to hull and back, spookily 666 miles door to door, air con on, cruise on at just under 2k revs....about 58mph?....34 mpg....delighted with the fuel...I only bought my ls for the summer when I work a lot and cover a lot of miles and plan on selling it August September time when I go back to university....but parting wil be such sweet sorrow....and the mpg figures above make 'man maths' justification easy....I expected 20 mpg or there about...
  13. Owned two mx5, wonderful cars...I was looking for a mk2 sport model when we fell for our current z3...it may not have the joi de vivre of an mx5 but it's build quality was so much better and I for similar money...I love the wee z3 retro looks and simple reliability...
  14. I love the Aurelia b20 coupe...I also think in a different level things like original willys jeep and three door range rover have an intrinsic functional beauty....nothing could be added or taken away from either of them to improve their look!!
  15. Series 3 jaguar xj best proportioned saloon car ever for me....Citroen sm and ds for whoah there what the f....beauty...Bugatti atlantique and delahaye by figoni et falaschi for,out of the world curves....and you wanna see e type inspiration....Alfa disco volante...

  18. yes, I can see why these cars were so critically acclaimed when new...and it gives credence to my theory that superlative build quality only really becomes appreciated years down the line by an older cars owner. I am reaping the benefits of lexus obsessive quest for build quality in a way the first owner could only imagine! these cars display terminator type build quality, relentless and remorseless in their pursuit of perfection...if some people see this as a lack of character, so be it...keeps the cars a cheap, well kept secret... I had a mechanic salivating over the paint and shut lines the other day and we figured out that to replace the ls400, like for like if you see what I mean, from todays lexus range would mean spending over 90k on an ls600..!...
  19. I had owned my ls400 for a matter of days before I was faced with a 600 mile round trip from Dundee to hull..and back...rather spookily if you use aa route finder, the total miles to go to hull and back is 666 miles...really. these cars were built for this kind of trip. in deference to its age and my not 'knowing' the car, I sat with the cruise on at 58mph, just on 2000rpm and watched the world go by in cossetted air conditioned bliss. 6 hours later I stepped out of the car with no aches, pains or fatigue. the big 4 litre v8 had averaged 34 mpg driven like this and like the original poster I thought wow, this is what these cars are built for. I doubt any car could have given me this feeling of comfort, refinement and invulnerability. I would not have jumped in any other nigh on twenty year old car I had less than a weeks experience of to do a trip like this in the blazing heat. hope my experiences continue to be this good, gbn
  20. He shed a tear when it went, owned it six years and said he knew it was a better car than his new one!...I don't know a great deal about lexus comparison but find it hard to believe there are many cars better than a good ls400?...,reason the lpg was never fully fitted was because he didn't want anyone cutting a hole in his car!...a dedicated owner...
  21. Owned almost 200 cars...really!...but came to lexus most recently from smart for two brabus I had owned for three years....ridiculous to sublime?
  22. Hi, owned my ls400 for three weeks now and wow, what a car. Bought from an older gent who had traded up to an ls430, my champagne/gold 400 had a fsh and just over 64,000 miles on it when I got it and I have added almost 2000 miles to that including a 600 mile round trip. What an astonishingly good car. I have owned jags, bmw, mercs in the past and was looking for one of these when I stumbled across the lexus...in comparison to comparable priced xj jags, 7 series bmw and s class mercs, the lexus reeks quality. It has zero corrosion...everything works...and it is silent... My car came with a semi fitted romano lpg kit which I will be listing on eBay..it gets almost 34 mpg on the longer runs and drives so beautifully I don't want to risk fitting a second hand kit...I will keep popping in to tell you more about the best 'champagne for coca cola money' car in the wold...gbn
