  1. ....do sc430 wheels fit....nice set on gumtree just need tyres
  2. If you've still got your old 16inch wheels, I'll buy them! I am lucky because my original wheels are immaculate which I know is unusual...but I would be keeping them if I go down the big wheel route, won't find another set like them
  3. I am wrestling with same man maths...my ls gets used about 2-300 miles a week and I can afford the fuel....but, I may have a grand or so spare at the end of the month and bluesman has posted you CAN get conversions done down South for less than the 2k iv been quoted up here....my man maths tells me that it doesn't actually MATTER how long it takes to be in the black because the savings would be instantly noticeable....and it's spare money that WILL otherwise be spent on stuff that gives NO return...
  4. Seen that for a while....put it like this, my car has 67k, three owners and a full history, lexus till few years ago....I think it's in fantastic condition and I DID have it advertised for 2k...till I woke up and realised I would never find another like it, it owes me nothing in real terms and the mileage I do and the way I drive, it's so over engineered it could last me indefinitely! Find a good one, cherish, enjoy...
  5. It's hard to explain what these cars give you...I work in quite a volatile workplace and I would say when I get into my ls after a shift, it gives me a feeling of serenity, calmness....it relaxes me....never had a car like that, even the jags iv owned made me feel special in a way no other cars have, but they never gave me this inner serenity....I am writing a little review of the ls that, hopefully explains what I mean and touches on how it is imbued with character but it's a character you won't "get" unless you own one....these are not the anodyne, soulless barges the media made out...
  6. Yup, welcome and annoy....done about 200 miles in last two days, family trip to Pitlochry yesterday then Glasgow motor museum and mother India for curry today....cruise,on at 60 way down, 77 way back, still, averaged nigh on 30 mpg....well over that yesterday orn slow run up a9....and what a car to travel in.....the old jaguar adage of grace, pace and space suits the ls better than it did jags which usually had two of the three, old series 3 and x306/308 being just a wee bit short on space...
  7. I should perhaps have added 'under provocation'...dump the throttle in the wet and the wheels will spin up, dump it on a wet corner and hey hey, we have sideways....car is good as gold unless provoked, bit like poking a sleeping bear with a stick...
  8. Mine goes sideways or spins up it's wheels if there is a sniff of moisture...lucky I drive like driving miss daisy..
  9. Cheapest guy local to me wants 2k....just not economically viable...
  10. Heading down towards broughty ferry, about five o clock if memory serves?..I was in my similar coloured ls400 and gave a wave....anyone on here?....
  11. ....and surely de lorean was a british car....only built in Northern Ireland, by an American maverick, using lotus technology, a French engine and british taxpayers money!....good list though...
  12. Lovely mate, same colour as mine but yours is a mk4 I think....they ain't bad on fuel for what they are, I don't think....I can get 35 mpg on runs and it has never dropped below 20 mpg even round town....sit back, smile....enjoy...
  13. Good effort with the lpg man, it's only the lack of a couple of grand that stops me from having mine converted!...
  14. One surely can't make sweeping generalisations like that....I'm sure much of what we hear or read is rubbish, just as much of the propaganda pit forward by naysayers is funded by oil companies etc....there is truth on both sides for sure....wind turbines can be productive but seem to blind alley technology for now....this does not make the rest of the green agenda to be rubbish, does it?....I am not knowledgeable enough to argue for or against but for me, the arguments I have seen for a against as far as I understand suggest that yes, global warming is cyclical, yes there have been ice ages and heat waves before, but yes, mankind is significantly shortening the space between these by our actions..... It's easy to say oh well, this won't happen for millions of years....but what I like to think is, if our lifespans encompassed this amount of time....or put more simply, if our sons and daughters lifespan WAS millions of years,,would we not take greater care/have taken greater care of our environment....it's not easy to become impassioned about something that may or may not affect future generations who we will never know.....but what of it was your own kids?....I reckon we would sit up and take a bit more notice NB, it's not just cars, energy etc...it's irrigation, deforestation, crop growing etc..etc...for which there are NO easy answers....but this does not mean we should ignore it....
  15. I read many moons ago that this wind turbine syndrome type complaint was in fact widely, if not wholly discredited...this is the problem for the layman...we read something that sounds plausible and if we are willing to believe it, or it fits with our general belief, we will belief it as gospel....I know I am guilty of thois to some extent with 'an inconvenient truth' for instance....some will be at the opposite end of the spectrum. As far as I recall, wind farms could be said to be responsible for sleeplessness and minor breathing ailments that are manifested through a type of motion sickness, but I nothing like cancer. Even gore' s people's advice was a windfarm should be at least 2 miles from any settlement... Anyhow, how are we all enjoying our lexus?....
  16. Yup, wind farms need to be offshore or in areas with no population....in the wind....top of mountains etc haha...cancer has been linked to high powered electrical cables etc also....power comes with it's own problems.....sometimes we should remember, power is nothing without control and with great power comes the need for responsibly....
  17. My tuppence worth...like him or not, the al gore film I felt was particularly well balanced, does not deny that warming is cyclical,,but points out how much more warming etc has been caused by people and actually shows in idiot proof terms how, and why...it's easy to dismiss people like him as failed politicians and drum bangers with their own agenda BUT.."gore was independently wealthy before his political failure...he will be financially secure thru his pension as ex vp of America also....and it is pretty much political suicide what he continues to do..so I doubt it's self serving....if you haven't watched it please don't judge on the other knee jerk reactionary stuff that has been made. It's a grown up film with honest, clear opinions and facts. Perhaps this is a bit contentious for some but I honestly believe that global warning deniers will become as historically decried as holocaust deniers. This is happening.....can we stop it...NO....can we slow it down and try to get it back to its natural, cyclical rhythm...yes, to an extent....the Kyoto treaty etc...is important and the fact that America still had not ratified it in 2008 is indicative of the land of the free's wholesale disrespect for everyone else's freedom....but then, we knew that, didn't we... As for wind farms etc, I don't know enough to argue but from what I have read, I broadly agree with you bluesman, this is blind alley technology and akin to shutting the gate after the horse has bolted...the real futer lies in renewables, perhaps tidal energy generation and wind power does contribute, but not nearly to the level that some would have us believe....the technological advances made by diesel and petrol engineers is incredible, and electric cars have made bounds that make our present cars slow evolution from Karl Benz' first horseless carriages to the Maclaren p1 akin to the progress of a one legged man in the world ***** kicking championship....ie slow, and unsteady....if electric vehicles keep improving at this rate they will become viable for all Now, im off to have a 50 mph , 36 mpg cruise in my ls400 and LI will feel good because I am not contributing to the created man made consumer cycle....
  18. He completely agrees it's cyclical...if you have any interest you should watch it, the best described, simplest way iv seen the whole shebang delivered....
  19. I think the ones I am lookin at are 10in rear and 8.5 in front...might stick past rear arch as they are deep dish..
  20. Thanks for your kind words. I am moving into my fourth year of a joint honours in English and philosophy and have always been fascinated with writing, love doing it...
  21. I cannot see these cars values remaining so criminally low for much longer...even a really nice ls400 is lucky to see 2k, ls430s will, I think, sink lower and lower as on these shores they are a Japanese oddity....the 400 is heading for semi classic status within next ten years I'd say....so, get me while they're hot....buy now or repent at leisure...
  22. Bonnet struts, electric aerial and, just discovered, drivers electric seat....or maybe all, haven't checked them all yet...are only faults I have on my old '96 barge....nothing disastrous, gotta love the quality of these cars....
  23. Just to be pedantic....de tomaso was never an American car, sold by ford through their dealers in mid seventies for sure, but introduced '71 if I recall, and built in Italy....de tomaso himself was Argentinian so the plot thickens haha...last of line of traditional mid engined sports cars from the vallengula, thru mangusta, which was meant to be a bit of a widow maker, to the pantera....Alejandro de tomaso must have close links with ford throughout because im sure the wee vallengula had a ford 1600 engine, the mangusta had a ford v8 as did the pantera and all his other seventies and eighties produce.... I think, Italy being Italy, he even produced an de tomaso innocenti mini when he owned innocenti..the wee box shaped innocenti, not the mini shaped mini if you see what I mean...?....anyhow, sorry to be pedantic....AND nice choices...haha
