  1. I averaged about 31 mpg on my IS250, you might do a little better if your A roads are a nice steady pace, (depending how much you sit in town at the weekend) Be interested to hear what a mk3 GS300 owner would think, my old MK2 would have been 5 mpg less I'm sure.
  2. Thats a good looking car! Like that the boot extends back a bit compared to the IS and GS which can look a bit squat to my eye.
  3. Yes this. You just can't keep your foot down for more than a second or two on a 'normal' road, so its not a problem.
  4. Yes Carl they are missing for me to. Please find somewhere to put these where we can keep these instructions around. Although i'm hoping that an industry might spring up around this fix like it has for the hybrid batteries, i'm sure someone could make some good cash doing this fix for much less than replacing the pump or transmission.
  5. I've been through a lot of cameras, this one is really good (although a bit pricy). Foscam FI9900P 1080P HD Network Wireless CCTV IP Camera with 20M Night Vision Sorry for the C-Max in the pic, Lexus is safe in the garage. Got the neighbours IS200 in though :-)
  6. If you are interested in audio, make sure you buy car with Mark Levinson.
  7. You could get a box of 60cm deep, 46cm high, and 110cm wide in there according to my measurements just now. Its a bit of a funny shape so you would be able to pack other softer stuff around this mystical box.
  8. The boot isn't very deep, but its still as wide and high as any other comparable car. Is there a particular measurement we could take which would help you?
  9. Yes you're right, I didn't realise that. Every time you get the car serviced at Toyota / Lexus you are guaranteed for another year / 10,000 miles on the HV battery.
  10. The brochure for the GS 450h is actually pretty clear on this point, the hybrid drive is about performance. If you want fuel economy round town get a Prius (which is a great car BTW, i've had one), or if the motorway get a diesel. Anyone buying the GS for fuel economy is going to be disappointed - not least because the extreme acceleration is rather addictive!
  11. I only got it yesterday so there are many others with more experience but i'm loving it so far. Its my fourth lexus and easily the best, incredible car with loads of power and really smooth. I lucked out and got one with the 2010 facelift so i can play music direct from my phone via USB or Bluetooth without faffing around fitting an adapter which is a nice bonus. Definitely drive both a 300 and a 450h, in general I found it easier to find a quality 300.
  12. You will have the gen 4 nav i would think, you could always pop the disc out to check, once you have the 2 pins to take it out its quite easy. http://search.ebay.co.uk/lexus%20gen%204%20nav%20dvd
  13. Great car the mk2 GS, I had a 1998 with the Navi. It was like driving the future back in 2000.
  14. You can get the 450h hybrid battery reconditioned for £800 by a company in Northampton, so I don't worry too much about it. I recently shopped for a GS and drove / considered both, the 300 is a fine car and easily fast enough. I my experience go newer with higher miles than older with less miles. You are on the right track with 08/09 i would say. Buy on condition and only with a full lexus history (its not the actual history that is so important, but that the owner cared enough to keep taking it to lexus). P.S. I had an IS250 before, its also a great car.
  15. I think you'd need to hear the same generation system with and without ML. I thought the MK2 GS the standard system sounded great, but in the 3rd Gen the ML sounds a lot better to me than the standard "premium" audio.
  16. After a long day round London I couldn't find an older low mileage car in a condition I was happy with, so went for a much higher mileage more recent car. It seems for whatever reason age is not so kind to the GS whereas this was no problem for the IS.
  17. For now, i've scrubbed all 05 and 06 GS models from my shortlist of viewings tomorrow. The Gen 4 as i had in my IS was a really good system and still looked smart. From the pics, it looks like 07+ GS do have the Gen 4
  18. Answered my own question I think - this was a Gen 3 navigation system and I was used to a Gen 4. Apparently its a plug and play replacement if you can find a doner gen 4 box.
  19. Right, sold my IS so i'm on the hunt. I'm looking at quite a range of ages and considering the GS300 / 450h Does anyone know why the style of this navi screen looks so old and lo res (this is a 56 300), did they put a different system in the early cars or is it because it doesn't have the Mark Levinson?
  20. 1. You'll have to buy an adapter for this. USB / Bluetooth A2DP only seems to have come in for 2010 - which is really late. I have a Vaistech adapter in my IS which is brilliant. 2. You can on the IS, so the GS should be the same. I'd be disappointed if not. The footbrake must be on though!
  21. I drove the 2.7 TD Premium Luxury Auto XF, which isn't necessarily a fair comparison to the GS450h due to the engine. Although the first GS450h i've driven was the totally abused one I saw today. • XF had more road noise, and a much firmer ride • Engine very noisy in the XF, it felt slower than my IS even though its not supposed to be. • The interior is very space age on the XF, to the point where its quite a wall of silver buttons, I think I would get used to this though. • The GS has more room in the back, the XF was ok (it solves the problem the IS has of no rear legroom when i'm driving), but in the GS I can fit behind myself driving, and i'm 6ft 4. • The XF had rust on the boot lid! I've not had a car with rust on since the 90's! • B&W audio system was nice on the XF, a warmer sound than the Mark Levinson system in my IS which I think can sound a bit aggressive. • The XF, at least to my eyes, is the better looking car. Overall I learnt a couple of things today, the XF isn't for me, the GS is my next car. As a said before even this abused one drove nice and smoothly, you could feel the power available. It seems though the cheaper cars are not going to be up to my cosmetic standards, so when i do a tour of cars next weekend i'm going to line up some lower mileage examples. My IS looks pretty much new inside and out, and thats how i like it.
  22. Just been to see that 105k car in Luton, terrible cosmetically, drove OK though. Also drove a Jag XF today, definitely decided on a GS. Has anyone looked at this one? http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201601150119193/usedcars?logcode=visc
  23. Looks nice in silver madfish. I'm also out looking for a GS450h - the pricing seems all over the place though, I can't work it out. One thing that seems clear is that mileage seems to scare people, age not so much.
