  1. They are very easy to replace, I did mine a couple of months ago and the only odd thing is that at one end needed a 13mm spanner and the other end a 14mm spanner. I got mine from www.cargasstruts.co.uk for £40 inc delivery. Thank you for this. I was just going to order from SGS, as recommended in one of the posts, but they were £60 a pair. You just saved me £20 :D Thank you ! Are you sure you're not getting bonnet struts and bootlid ones confused? I am definitely looking for bootlid struts. SGS ask for the part number, which they say is on a label on the struts. There are labels on mine, they only have Japanese script and no part number. Does anyone have the part number for a bootlid strut for a LS430, 2004? I have tried looking on some spares parts web sites to see if I could find the part number, but without success. Thanks

  3. Thank you for that, I had nothing to compare it to. I'll search on the forum for advice about their replacement.
  4. Talking of bonnet struts . . . . I have had my car for about a month, and think that the boot lid is quite heavy to lift. Is this because it is made from quality-weight material, or is it a sign the struts need replacing?
  5. There is a small up-side to the cold weather. The petrol you buy is a little denser in cold weather, giving you 'more bang for your buck'.
  6. Fuel prices are unlikely to stay this low for long, despite low inflation (or even deflation). Many members have had their cars converted to LPG. There are lots of posts about LPG - happy reading, and welcome to the club.
  7. I have stopped watching. It ceased to be a programme about cars a long time ago, and has also ceased to be an entertainment (or entertaining) programme.
  8. Steve Apologies, I should have done a search first, but this seemed such unusual behaviour I did not think that it might have already been fully discussed and that my 'problem' was a shared one. Lesson learned :)
  9. Thanks all. My curiosity has been satisfied. I was not worried, but could not think why it might appear to go up and down like that. As TigerFish says, rather an overly complex system for such a simple requirement. It seems that it is using complex technology, just because they could, not because they needed to. I guess that the data is being sent to the onboard computer to accurately display average consumption etc, and they are using it to also drive the analogue fuel gauge.
  10. My car runs on LPG, so I expect the petrol gauge to drop a little as it burns petrol initially, until it can switch to LPG. However, on occasion I have noticed the petrol gauge dropping slowly even after the car has switched to LPG. This seems very confusing as I cannot see how I can be burning petrol and LPG simultaneously, unless I am burning one fuel, and leaking the other. The gauge can drop by almost a quarter of a tank over my 65 mile commute to work. On most journeys this does not happen, just occasionally. I have given it some thought, and cannot determine any pattern as to what might cause it. If that seems strange, what is stranger is that usually at some point, I will glance down at the petrol gauge and the needle will have returned to its original position. I am confident that I am not leaking either LPG or petrol. I wondered if anyone else has experienced this? Not unduly worried about making a repair, unless that turns out to be cheap and simple. I am content to live with this 'feature' of my car. Any suggestions?
  11. Standard unleaded seems to be fine. However, your question is bound to open a debate, especially around whether supermarket fuel is as good as that from a leading petrol station
  12. Good luck, and welcome to the club.
  13. Dependent on date, I would also be interested.
  14. I think you mean Jodie Kidd Another senior momment and thats at the start of the day. Mike There are two stages to senior moments. It starts with stage 1, where you get to the top of the stairs and then can't remember what you went upstairs for. Stage 2 is where you have to pause for breath half-way up the stairs, and then can't remember if you were going up, or down. ;)
  15. As a newbie, I may be wrong . . . . My reading indicates that the SC430 and LS430 are close cousins, sharing may components. I found the following for the removal of the airbag on the SC430, and wondered if it would be the same for the LS430? http://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-430/604899-sc430-driver-s-airbag-change-diy.html
  16. I am either being dense ( and that would be far from the first time), or I have completely misunderstood geography, but BCA do not have a site in Essex. Any chance of the link?
  17. Whether or not it is cost effective is largely due to your annual mileage, and therefore how quickly you recoup the cost of the installation. A number of websites have a simple form to complete that does that calculation for you.
  18. I am now on my third LPG car and have never been asked by an insurance company for an UKLPG certificate.
  19. Thanks Phil. I think I will go to Halfords and pay to have them fit them, while I wait. I live in a very rural part of the country and good headlights is an absolute necessity, although my wife thinks it is an obsession
