  1. The LS430 is the LPG one Baz sold a while ago, the person selling it now has reused Baz's old pictures.
  2. Funny you should say that, my sister has a 2005 Daihatsu Charade!!! It's actually been a great little car lol. I know what you are saying Bernard, you do get a lot of car for your money and the asking price isn't bad even if you do have to spend some on repairs but £1,000 doesn't go that far when it comes to gearboxes and air suspension lol!!! We don't want a never ending money pit!!! This one was actually very tempting until I saw the state of the interior, the carpets look disgusting on the photos, instead of being beige they are a very dubious looking shade of brown and yellow!!! Yuck 🤢 and the leather looks very worn and very grubby too. The search goes on and any more advice of things to check etc would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks again everybody.
  3. Thanks for your help, I received some interior pictures and it looks very grubby to say the least!!! I don't think we'll be bothering with that particular example. I'd personally have a mk4 LS400 over an LS430 because there is a lot less to go wrong, my nephew likes the more modern feel of the LS430 though and the extra gadgets!!! I just wish there was an easy way to check the tranny problem, everything else like the air suspension is quite easy to check. The search continues...
  4. Hi, I am the very happy owner of a GS450H, however my nephew is catching the Lexus bug and is thinking of buying an LS430, he's found one for sale on car and classic, I've put the link below. It's an early 2001 model so qualifies for £245 road tax, it's had a new radiator and air con condenser fitted, 4 oxygen sensors and a sensor under the intake manifold. I've also found out that it has FSH and cambelt changed in 2011 at 120k miles. The dealer says everything works including the air suspension and steering wheel motors!!! It has a full MOT with no advisories and is priced at £1495. The main concern is that I had a 2002 LS430 a couple of years ago and mine suffered catastrophic gearbox failure caused by coolant leaking into the gearbox oil. It has had the radiator replaced but is there any way of checking that it's going to be ok even though the rad has been done (the concern is shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted!!!) What do you think of this car? I've requested some interior pics which the dealer says he'll email to me. The car is 250 miles away so would probably mean a trip on the train to get it. Any thoughts and advice would be appreciated!!! Cheers!!! http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C839623
  5. I'm really happy with my 2006 GS450h but when it comes to absolute build quality and reliability I don't think the LS400 can be beaten!!!
  6. I've found it in the handbook (it was in the nav handbook rather than the main handbook like John said, cheers for that John!!!) You are right, it's a very involved process to use the assist, you can parallel park a lot easier and quicker without it!!! I really like the camera and the straight green lines and dynamic yellow lines that move as you steer though.
  7. Although I've only had my car a short time I've not yet felt the need to use manual gears, I just put it in D and let it do its thing!!!
  8. The normal reverse park assist works fine, you just line up the green lines with the parking space lines , I also like the yellow lines which turn with the steering to show where your car is going to go. As I said when you put it in parallel mode you get the green box which changes position as you steer but doesn't seem to be anyway to lock the green box in place to reverse into if you see what I mean!!! Its one of those gadgets that I probably won't use much but would like to have working if it's supposed to lol!!!
  9. All I can find in the handbook is a section on the parking sensors and also the rear camera but no mention of how the lines on the camera display are supposed to work!!' I'll end up never using it but I just wanted to have a go with it because it's there!!!
  10. Hi, I have been playing with the park assist and rear camera on my car and wanted to ask exactly how the park assist works with the sensors and lines on the reverse camera screen. When you put the car in reverse the camera turns on and at the bottom corner of the screen you can choose from normal parking mode which gives you the straight green lines on screen and the yellow lines which turn with the steering wheel. When you put it in parallel mode you get a warning on screen saying there is increased danger of impact in this mode which you have to press ok on. You are then given a green box which moves when you turn the steering wheel, the box moves further away and in the direction the steering is pointed and that is all it does!!! There is no option to set the green square in position to reverse into that I can see. I've tried to explain in the best way I can!!! Am I missing something or doing something wrong? I see no mention of the parking assist lines in the handbook. Thanks for any help or input you can give!!!
  11. It was just a bit of fun as I've never seen it before, it's all still a bit of a novelty to me as I've only had the car for a week and still getting used to what it does and what it doesn't do!!! This is the first hybrid car I've ever driven or owned. I'm usually too busy enjoying the rapid acceleration to worry about the battery level but yesterday I came down a long steep hill near where I live and saw it full for the 1st time. Its an absolutely stonking car and I'm loving every minute of driving it!!!
  12. I tried disconnecting the battery today to update the sat nav, unfortunately when I reconnected the battery it still wouldn't read the disc. How long do you leave it disconnected for? I only gave it about 3 or 4 minutes because it was about to start raining and I didn't want to leave the boot open to get wet lol!!!
  13. Been for a spin in sports mode and pwr mode. It really does sharpen the whole car up!!! Overtaking is so quick and effortless (not that it was a slouch before lol) the way the car launches is unreal. Also, I've done a couple of runs to work and back now and so far I've been averaging 36mpg according to the computer which I am really chuffed with. This is easily the best car I've ever had and I've had a lot!!! I tried the sat nav disc and it wouldn't read the disc as expected so tomorrow I'll try disconnecting the battery in daylight. Another quick question, I have my screen set so it doesn't default to sat nav screen from audio/air con screens etc, however when ever you use the park assist or use the rear camera it defaults back to the energy screen display rather than what I had it on before, is there a way around this?
  14. I've got the gearbox set on Hybrid PWR but the suspension is still on normal, apart from stiffening the suspension does sport mode do anything else? I'm going to give it a go but just so I know what should happen when I press the button lol!! The new sat nav disc has arrived, I haven't put it in yet. Do I need to disconnect the battery when changing the disc? The battery is in the boot on these cars isn't it?
  15. There are some interior pictures available now, looks nice but still to pricey!!! http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201703283780519?sort=sponsored&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly New&onesearchad=New&radius=1500&model=LS 400&postcode=ls211dg&advertising-location=at_cars&make=LEXUS&page=1
  16. It's always worth the effort to travel to get the right car although this one is the furthest I've been for a car at 100 miles, before that it was 80 miles for a Jaguar X-type I bought in Blackpool. Lexus really are the best cars, I could drive mine all day long!!!
  17. The LS400 is and always will be a great car, perhaps dated is the wrong word maybe classic is more appropriate!!! I loved mine and when I sold it I almost immediately regretted it!!! I'm so pleased with the GS450h now though, the more I drive it and get used to it the more I like it. I do like lots of toys and gadgets on my cars too and I like the more modern feel of the GS.
  18. Hi Mark, I've had both an LS400 and LS430. The ride in the GS is a bit firmer than both the 400 and 430, cabin noise is almost nonexistent in all 3 although I'd say the LS400 just has it. The GS is more like a smaller LS430 when it comes to tech and gadgets and overall feel. As great as the LS400 is I personally think it is starting to look and feel a bit dated now.
  19. I've taken a punt and ordered the sat nav disc. I think my fuel economy will improve as I get more used to it, also I've been enjoying the rapid acceleration which probably impacts the fuel economy!!!
  20. I think I might order one of those, £25 isn't a bad price to bring it up to date, I was surprised to see that the system accepts postcode search, does the new version retain this feature? According to my loading screen it looks like a gen 5 which this disc supports.
