  1. The British motoring press are extremely biased. I have now covered 1200 miles in 10 days and without doubt is the best car I have driven. I did 30years in the police and for a short time was in charge of the local road policing unit so have driven many vehicles at very high speeds in difficult situations. The Lexus is without doubt the most comfortable car I have owned for years, the closest being my Mercedes 300ce from 1992 which in those days was a £42000 car. I am absolutely amazed that a 220bhp car is so economical and I love driving it . My average so far according to my phone app is42mpg. Over the last 3 days and 300 miles the average Mpg was 44. 75. This car is certainly making me smile.
  2. I do not trust acc having had bad experiences with the system on the latest mini. A collision avoidance system that detects an imminent head on collision and emergency brakes on an empty motorway on 5 occasions in15000 miles is not good. According to BMW the car was fine and they could not replicate the issue...
  3. Yes it is a bit of a change leaving a decade of diesel. After I did the deal on my car I found it had a well known last owner which just adds to the fun of ownership.
  4. Thanks Steve but I can assure you that the wheels and trim on Lexus are light years better than new Mercedes. Both my Mercedes cars had to have replacement centre caps under warranty and the lacquer was starting to fail on the wheels. My c class was 18 months old and required new side rubbing strips because of corrosion. My cabriolet likewise had boot lid chrome handle replaced under warranty. Not what you expect on a car that cost £48000 new.
  5. Well my brakes seem fine. Just be grateful that you weren't driving my 2012 mercedes cabriolet when the rear parking brake friction material decided play up. The screech was so loud that every pedestrian in the street turned round to stare. This was especially bad when it happened on sunny Days when invariably the hood was down! Of course this was an intermittent fault until the parking brake broke :)
  6. I've now had the pleasure of owning my is300h for around 10 days and 900 miles. According ot my phone app I am averaging 42.7mpg so well happy. My last car was a 2012 Mercedes E250 CDi cabriolet which covered 26,000 miles in 9 months. For the 10 months prior to that I had a Mercedes C220CDi AMG sport . that replaced a 2014 Mini Cooper diesel (worst car owned for a decade).. That replaced a 2013 Mini Cooper Clubman diesel. As you see there is a German theme for the past couple of years. I wanted to try something different as I was tired of poor service form both BMW and Mercedes. Hopefully my Lexus will be a different story. certainly the build quality puts the Germans to shame. Really enjoying the forum and learning about my very complicated car.
  7. Travelling 36000 miles a year I wouldn't even entertain a total even car. The thought of being stuck waiting for batteries to charge fills me with dread.
  8. My problem is that due to advancing years I work out how to adjust something and then forget it next time. Mind you I change my car every 9 or 10 months and they are all different.
  9. I do 36000 miles a year and have owned a new shape mini, mercedes c220 amg sport and a mercedes e 250 cabriolet in the past 2 years. The quality of the Lexus is in a different league to the German cars. My e250 cabriolet was fully loaded and new was just over£47000 and yet the leather was poorly trimmed with cloth visible at the edges and like bmw an interior quality leather. Both marque's dealerships were lacking in customer service. I am so far over the moon with my Lexus.
  10. I found that it is possible to turn off the voice and still navigate. I have an F sport and the guidance shows if you have the main dial moved to the right. It also shows the distance and time of arrival. I have premium navigation pack
  11. These cars are so complicated. You either need a 7 year old assistant or a couple of weeks to learn the 1100 pages in the manual
  12. Having just replaced a Mercedes E250 AMG Sport Cabriolet with an IS300h F Sport I read this thread with great interest. In August driving at about 20mph in my Mercedes through a local trading estate I encountered half a dozen seagulls feasting on a loaf of bread in the road. As I approached they took off. One of them took off towards my car and hit the front bumper. BANG hood popped up at back. No damage to bodywork at all. With the Mercedes the system is powered by springs. Lift the bonnet hard and it resets. No damage= no cost !
  13. Try Fiat Underground grey touch up. There was a tiny mark on one of my wheels. I thought that the colour looked similar to a Fiat I used t o own and 'bingo' it is a perfect match.
