  1. I had a very bad experience in 2001 with an Audi A4 2.8 Quattro and have avoided them since (6 months out of warranty broke a camshaft due to metal fatigue). I have a friend who's brother works at a main dealer and 3 months ago he told me that on a Monday morning the place is full of broken down cars all under warranty. I think for reliability Lexus is hard to beat.
  2. The truth is that the motoring press are extremely biased as they favour certain manufacturers and are rooted in the past. Cars are going to change dramatically in the next few years because legislation will force it. If like me you drive in excess of 30000 miles a year you would know how good the ecvt is compared to other modern systems which are all set up for economy. Look at dual mass flywheels for instance and how troublesome they can be. Let's not forget all the semi auto gearboxes and how jerky most of them are. I have owned a lot of modern cars in the past decade and in that time have driven a third of a million miles. The ecvt in Lexus is brilliant. The lack of jerkiness compared to say a Mercedes auto is sublime especially when overtaking as the response to the throttle is instantaneous and smooth. You need to drive one yourself to make an informed decision. If I followed the advice of journalists I would have missed owning some very enjoyable and reliable cars eg Alfa Romeo Mito.
  3. Have owned my 2015 luxury model since July and have done 13000 miles. Car is superb on fuel and real world brim to brim has averaged 46mpg. No issues with the car at all. Fuel consumption is actually better than the 2014 is300h I had before. Tyre wear is brilliant. At 20000 miles they were all between 4 and 6mm and evenly worn. At service the only thing that was replaced was a pair of wiper blades costing £25. If you can find the right car you won't be disappointed.
  4. I just connected my LG flex2 android phone by Bluetooth to the car and it worked. When navigating with Sat nav it will sometimes just say 'incoming mezsage' if making a turn and it will then display the message on screen after manoeuvre is complete. You then select the 'read' option and it reads the text out loud. My car is early 2015 just pre face-lift luxury spec.
  5. A couple of weeks ago I managed to damage the rear bumper of my car with the metal dropbolt mounting of my driveway gates which put 2 small puncture holes into the middle of the bumper. No scuffs but 2 very neat and annoying marks. Being pearlescent white I was dreading the cost of repairs and the quality of finish. My local Chipsaway Franchise in Gloucester seemed to have some good reports so I paid Stuart the owner a visit. He said that the pearlescent would require more painting of the bumper than usual to get a good match and blend in and quoted a price of £192 inclusive. The car went in on Monday at 8am and I collected it at 4.30pm. I am over the moon with the result. Even shining a bright light on the paint to get the flakes to pop doesn't reveal the signs of any repairs. You would never know that the paint isn't factory finish. I would definitely recommend him for minor paint correction.
  6. If my key fob is in my pocket near my mobile phone I cannot unlock my car. Hope this helps.
  7. My is had Bridgestones and was still on original tyres when sold with 28000 miles. I did get tracking checked on both cars shortly after purchase to ensure everything was OK.
  8. Good picture. Never drove it but I did drive a V6 Cavalier we had in Gloucester.
  9. Just completed 10,000 miles since July and so car now had intermediate service done by Listers in Cheltenham today. This included brake fluid change and new battery in remote key plus new wiper blades. They gave me club discount so total cost was £244. I went for a stroll while it was being done and was surprised to receive a text with a video from the technician. Car has now covered 20000 miles and has nice even tyre wear. There is still 4to5mm on rears and 5to6mm on fronts.
  10. When I was in the police we had a VR6 Golf for pursuits in Gloucester City. It was very reliable. They replaced it with the later VR5 which kept leaving its sump behind on speed bumps. It was sent out to the Cotswolds.....
  11. Currently in Scotland. Having covered 450 miles since filling up in Carlisle I have averaged 48.8mpg in mainly mountainous driving. I am extremely impressed.
  12. In 43 days I have now racked up 3500miles.According to my phone app I have averaged 46.4 Mpg over that period. The last 500 miles I have tried v power and to be honest the Mpg has been marginally less.
  13. My problem is that I am pushed to find time to get my car serviced other than locally. In 42 days of owning my GS it's done 3477 miles. Listers Cheltenham seem okay for servicing, but I understand the views about them. Mind you I have had negative experiences with both BMW locally and Mercedes. The good thing about Lexus is the fantastic build quality and reliability of the product compared to the German offerings.
  14. I am a great believer in leaving modern high performance cars well alone in terms of wheels and wheel spacers. The car is designed over thousands of miles to run on particular wheel combinations. Putting spacers in surely will cause unnecessary stress on all sorts of components and possibly lead to premature failing of things like wheel bearings and drive shafts.
  15. And the car would never ever drive in a straight line again...... Thanks, the wheel and tyre cost more than that . I value my life more than a botched repair on a high performance car.
  16. Just a note of caution.I too had a recent claim with a visibly similar amount of damage as yours which initially you might think is 'a cheap fix' . You can see from the picture that the damage appears minimal. You no doubt would be surprised to know that when the vehicle was properly checked it had sustained nearly £6,000 worth of damage. Basically the entire offiside suspension was very slightly bent out of alignment and nearly everything underneath needed replacement as a result of the wheel taking all the impact and the kinetic energy being absorbed by the suspension components.. The wing was straightened and the bumper repaired. All the expensive damage was hidden.
  17. I wanted to get a fitted bootliner for my car and was considering the genuine Lexus article. However I found a company called bootliners. Co. UK advertising on the Internet. They had a fitted liner on their website which was just over £36 including carriage. It arrived today and is a perfect fit with a deep lip around the edge just like the Lexus version. It is a little thinner but that does not effect its serviceability. A bonus is that there is a non slip area in the centre of the unit and it is far cheaper than the Lexus version.
  18. Every car I've owned with cruise control apart from a mini with camera controlled adaptive cruise control has gathered speed on a descent. The mini however on several occasions misread the surroundings and emergency braked on a clear motorway causing consternation to those following me.
  19. The car is a lot bigger but I find it much easier to park than the is. I now tend to reverse into spaces which is so easy. They are so rare. Yesterday I saw a grey one on the M5. It was only the 4th I've seen since I bought mine.
  20. Having recently moved into GS300h luxury ML from is 300h f sport I'm very happy. My wheels appear original and are definitely shiny chrome look. Take a look at the pictures I posted of my car to compare with yours. I'm sure you will love your car. I have done nearly 3000 miles in 5 weeks.
  21. The premium Sat nav is OK, better than the full blown Mercedes COMAND system but still light years behind tomtom live. On Friday on the M5 it didn't give me any advance warning of stationary traffic or a detour route. Last month I used my tomtom in a loan car and realised how good it was in comparison. I am going to Scotland soon and will use the tomtom to warn me of all the average speed cameras in the north. The reversing aids are brilliant. Now I have a GS I'm finding it a doddle to park in tight spaces.
  22. Likes Styling Build quality Ecvt gears Dislikes Wheels easy to kerb Seats a little firm (f sport) Ride rather firm
