  1. I had a similar warning on a square amber background with the message 'brake' flash on and off very quickly. I was doing about 45 mph going up a hill with no other traffic within 100 metres. It's a lane I drive along regularly and it has never reoccurred. It's on my list for the first service this week.
  2. I used Carwow when I bought my NX last year and found it very interesting. Most dealers moved considerably on their best offers and with a couple of London dealers being ahead of the rest and very proactive in trying to secure a sale. Depends on how close they are to their sales targets. Some were very straightforward in offering lowish px values , and I sold my old VW on Tootle for £2k more than the best px offer from a Lexus dealer. Just to add on Carwow you get a cash price and pcp deals.
  3. The only manual I got from the dealer was the basic user guide, the sat nav manual came about three weeks after delivery. They wouldn't help with the owners hard copy manual. I contacted Lexus uk and after four weeks I eventually got a copy of the full manual. It's cost saving being disguised as being kind to the environment. Apart from that the sat nav multimedia system is the worst I have ever experienced. Yesterday it crashed three times on a thirty minute journey and by the time i arrived home I only had about eight radio stations available after the third reset. With luck they'll fix the electronic problems I've had lately at it's first service next week. I actually find the best nav method in the car is to use the position of the sun and stars, its more reliable. 😀😀 good luck Paul and enjoy your NX
  4. Sorry if I'm being a bit dim, but is there a special hybrid redex as opposed to the normal redex for petrol ?
  5. But the windscreen was kept clear by the wipers. It may well have been the build up of ice and snow on the front of the car that triggered the continuous flashing different text warnings. EV is my main gripe. The speedo cuts EV out at 30mph but the real speed is 27mph, and the very lightest touch in EV mode on the throttle tells me I've depressed it too quickly. It is far too sensitive and I'm hoping that on it's first service next month they'll be able to adjust the sensitivity so that I can get more slow traffic usage from EV. But it's annoying that there is a ten per cent error on the speedometer. Apologies to OP , didn't mean to hijack your thread Ian.
  6. It's taken me months to eventually come to terms with the CVT and it's habit of high revs. That's probably because I've had many years of low revving six cylinder diesel tiptronic type automatics and it is basically adapting to the difference. I've got the satnav glitches where it just crashes regularly, then I have to reset radio stations et al. It has a habit of displaying my position often as being twenty or so miles away from where I am, even twice a couple of miles out to sea and about ten miles further down the coast, not to mention once it added nearly six miles to my journey for no reason what so ever.. Wish I was ambidextrous as I find the touch pad a real pain. In the heavy snow ten days ago I had a 100 mile journey at night, I was caught in utter white out conditions on the A1 and just as I thought I would have to quit until the weather improved magically a snow plough appeared from a slip road and he led a convoy of six of us through fresh snow about ten to fifteen cms deep for the next fifty miles. The car handled the snow perfectly with only a couple of minor slips later on hard packed untreated snow. After about 15 minutes of constant blizzard conditions I then got constant repetitious warnings flashing on the dash ie. fwd cam disabled, lane departure warning disabled, auto breaking disabled, and I think the other was the cruise control radar disabled. The fact they weren't working didn't worry me as the car was driving perfectly well. The annoying thing was I ended up enduring the constant flashing of warning messages and the orange triangle for around 40 minutes non-stop. Obviously I couldn't stop to try and sus it out as I was in a single lane convoy, however I can only assume that it must have been a build up of snow on the front of the car. Strange that it should mention the front camera as there isn't one fitted on my car. It makes me wonder how they cope with there NX's in Canada if they get the same problems in their very regular snow storms. I've never had those problems with the Touareg and Audis and Hondas in heavy snow. I just had the standard Bridgestone tyres and did not have a problem really with grip on ice or snow excepting the two minor slips. Makes me sound a right moaner, but I enjoy the comfort and general peace of the NX, if only quieter tyres were fitted as standard. I'm hoping that when she goes in for service in the next couple of weeks they'll sort those problems and the infotainment which seriously is the worst satnav I have ever had in a car. Fortunately I very rarely need to use it as most of the time I know exactly where I am going. It just niggles me a bit when you go for premium build cars and you get stupid minor problems that I've not had with cars from other manufacturers. Ian, I've found the NX ideal downsizing for a retirement motor and perfect for my mobility problems. Ed, that about sums it up, I've kind of grown to love her after a slow start to our relationship, and I hope you're having a better time with your replacement car. I'm looking forward to the spring and roads that are not covered in grit and salt lol.
  7. Pleased you like it Ian, out of interest just wondering why you changed from Teeside Lexus to Newcastle. Did you find you got better service there. Talking of manuals mine only came with a basic users guide and I had to wait three weeks for the sat nav manual. Eventually after complaining to Lexus that when I spend that amount of money on a new car as a traditionalist I expect a full reference manual, and one eventually arrived about four weeks later. As they like to be known as a premium quality (not cheap) manufacture I thought their green excuse was a poor cop out just to save money. If I have problems I need something in the car that I can turn to quickly. If they're suggesting I should carry a tablet with me at all times then I believe they should provide one with the car instead of a paper manual. Enjoy your NX, it took me a while to grow into mine, even though I've got a few issues to be stored at first service.
  8. Good luck John and a speedy recovery, your tool box will be ready for action !
  9. I'll some be taking delivery of my long awaited NX, just wondering if anyone knows what is the normal delivery mileage on a new Lexus. Cheers guys
  10. Thanks Dan, unortunately I didn't see your post before I got the insurance sorted on Monday. I went back to John Lewis to re-activate and accept their quote, during the process I said to the lass that my annual mileage should be reduced from 16K to 12K now that I do less driving with me confidently expecting that that would knock a tenner of the bill. Oh No, that will increase your premium by £90 ! Which then took it from a reasonable £505 to£597. Eventually spoke with a JL manager who spent most of the conversation talking to himself about how complicated modern day insurance is. After ten years with JL and following his advice that loyalty means nothing in their business i decided to look elsewhere. So I went to the LV site to have a look, as one of their companies was going to be my insurer through JL. Low and behold I got fully comp, named driver, protected no claims, legal expenses and similar size hire car included for £376. I can only assume it was because I am a new customer. When I did a money supermarket search nobody was anywhere near that price, with the add ons they ranged from about £450 to £900.
  11. Thanks Colin I've tried them all now and whilst there are some cheap offers around £400 the mainstream companies all seem to be either in the £500/550 or the £700/800 bracket. I'm tempted to stay with John Lewis at £507 with legal/courtesy car/protected NC Next big decision or me is do I take Lexus paint protection .... decisions decisions lol
  12. Hi guys I'm new to the forum I've been waiting for almost ten weeks for my NX to arrive in the country and I've spent the last week getting up to date quotes fro my new motor. The disparity between quotes is really shocking. When I read earlier how someone on the forum had found Admiral to be a good insurer I went through the rigmarole of getting a quote from them, only to find it was over 50% higher than my current insurer at £766 and MandS at virtually the same cost. There are many others in the same ball park. Best quote I've had from what I call mainstream companies is £507 including NCP and Legal and courtesy car. Seems like buying good value insurance is just as much a minefield as getting the best deal when buying a motor.
  13. If it were me and my lad was going for a first motor I'd go for something boring like this. https://www.hindleandallen.co.uk/used-volkswagen-polo-blackburn-lancashire-1447763 My first four wheel transport was a 1955 Morris van with sliding doors like the Post Office vans lol, a wonderful old workhorse that got me all over Scotland and most of England and never let me down.
  14. That is very bad luck Ed, considering the Lexus reputation. Is it time for Lexus UK to take responsibility for all your problems and sort it out once and for all for you, with such low mileage and age, not to mention the time you spent without your own car. Hopefully good luck will be on your side next week when they take it in. It's got me wondering what mine is going to be like when it arrives in about ten days time.
  15. Hi Guys, apologies for not posting here before posting on the NX forum. Looking forward enormously to delivery of my NX 300h sometime late March (hopefully).
  16. Although the NX I've ordered is still about six weeks or so away from delivery, the dealers quoted smart scratch and chip repair insurance allowing up to three claims a year over the three year period. Having seen the above problems it's making me think twice and maybe taking the insurance. I've just managed to get a quote direct from the insurer which is £150 cheaper than buying from Lexus. Has anybody any experience of chip repair insurance ?
  17. As I mentioned in my post US gallon conversion rate is 1.2 gallons to one UK gallon
  18. As I've got at least eight weeks to go before my NX arrives I get nerdy and keep looking at vids on the net as a substitute for the real thing, sad eh ! Just saw these official fuel figures for the NX300h in the states : EPA Fuel Economy & Specification Fuel Economy Est-Combined (MPG) : 31 EPA Fuel Economy Est - City (MPG) : 33 EPA Fuel Economy Est - Hwy (MPG) : 30 Which is far more sensible than the ridiculous official figures in this country of around 54mpg I think the conversion for US gallon is around 1.2 to 1 gallon , which I think would equate to the high 38/40 mpg which most people seem to be achieving. My apologies to anyone who has already posted this snippet.
  19. I can't make my mind up on the side strips, just wondering if they do them in chrome. Talking of the paint treatment, I've got a few weeks left to deliberate about it before delivery. They've quoted me £349, which I thought was a bit steep, what happens to the protection if you use clay or polish over it ? Does that eat into it and destroy it's longevity ? I've had various paint protections applied to my previous cars, mainly Gtech 3 and Supagard, but I've never really noticed if they genuinely do make any difference. Be interesting to hear others thoughts
  20. Two weeks ago I had an extended test drive of 120 miles prior to my order, it was very cold weather and I achieved 39.8, and I decided that wasn't too bad. It was mostly B and A roads and I certainly wasn't pushing it and I changed driving mode a few times. I think I come in the same driving style category as Ed. I like to have a quiet calm and serene drive, except when I am trying to escape a city lol.
  21. Thanks Paul and Ed, Dab will certainly be added to my check list, on my current Touareg the DAB has always been a pain trying to set it up. I've had tyre pressure problems on previous new car deliveries so I'll get them to go through pressures and the monitor system. Current disappointment is that delivery has been put back to March, but at least it will be on an eighteen plate. Eventually decided on Luxury in Mercury/Ivory with the convenience pack. I'll let you know when she arrives, I'm chomping at the bit already.
  22. Thanks for that Paul, same for me bodywork, wheels and trim is where I start. Just wondering about little nuances that might get missed in the handover. It's the 2018 model, most of the dealers have been very straightforward when I've enquired and if it's been a pre facelift they've been honest about it. Sadly one dealer cast aspersions on other Lexus dealers who have offers on genuine facelift 2018 NX's, trying to make out the other dealers are lying and are selling unregistered pre-facelift cars. Most new car dealers I've dealt with in recent years seem to have realised that buyers now do research and know exactly what prices they can achieve and px trade values. And mainly thanks to the internet we are far more savvy than we probably were years ago !
  23. Hi guys, after much deliberation on which model to choose I finally ordered a Luxury with powered tailgate to be delivered hopefully in January. It'll be my first Lexus, first Hybrid along with my first post on the forum. Downsizing from a Touareg to what appears to be a better built car. If anybody has suggestions on what in particular to look out for when I take delivery at the handover, I'd much appreciate your thoughts, because sometimes you can be bombarded with a myriad of information, and miss important points. Having read the thread about the manuals for the car, am I correct in thinking that I will not receive the full comprehensive hard copy manuals. It's been interesting to read many of the threads, and with luck I'll learn something here !
