  1. If you think air got in then I would get a long bit of clear tube, fit it on the bleed nipple for the caliper ( it needs to be a good fit) open the bleed nipple and observe . if any air bubbles come out with the fluid. get an assistant to slowly press brake pedal. close / tighten brake bleed nipple while fluid is flowing clear. keep topping up master cylinder and be sure bleed nipple is closed each time brake pedal is coming up.
  2. If the pads wore down they may have dropped fluid level so low that air got sucked inside the master cylinder. unlikely but possible. also possible that piston came so far out of caliper it let air in, also unlikely but possible
  3. Spongy is usually air in brake lines. unless you have opened a bleed nipple or a brake pipe air should not have got in. If pads are not bedded in they sometimes feel spongy. If discs are-old or crappy I scratch them clean with very coarse sand paper to bust the glaze on them( superheated rust) and then take car for 50mph panic stops to fade new pads in
  4. White smoke is either steam, see head gasket or if smelly its unburnt fuel. is there any oil in the radiator headertank? is there any mayonnaise muck or heavy condensation on oil filler cap.? Thats leaking head gasket, water is getting into cylinders and coming out as steam and some is going into the oil . some oil may get into the radiator header tank. take head off only after watching 1000 utube videos , clean everything and refit with a new head gasket.
  5. Dude, when people post help on here at least read the answers!!!! You were told the fluid might overflow! it is over full now look for the max line on the resevoir. glad you got your pads in, remember and collect Brake pad fitters T shirt and be ready for next problem your car throws at you, remember utube is your friend!
  6. Just a thought, always check old pads with ALL the new ones to ensure same profile/shape. I recently opened a sealed box of pads that had 3 of one shape instead of 2 pairs. They didn’t fit.
  7. Exhaust Y also a weak point for cracking. I believe it’s stainless and a used replacement is a good solution
  8. Steering column tilt motor often suffers due to owners pulling themselves out of car by the steering wheel whist the motor is trying to park itself. I was fortunate that by removing the plastic shroud and dousing the slides and mechanism with silicon spray it came back to life. Radiator should be replaced unless new (£100) and the transmission routed to a separate cooler (seePaul Frost kit (£100)so it cannot be contaminated from coolant.
  9. Put worn pad back in. Get your biggest screwdriver in BEHIND it and the ,’sticking out piston,’ lever the piston back into caliper applying constant steady pressure. the old pad is protecting the disc from the screwdriver . observe master cylinder isn't dumping overflowing brake fluid.
  10. Have been upset by prices of another pair of Continentals. JLRover all use 255 50 20 size, is available everywhere with good deals. willtheyfit.com shows they are much the same rolling radius so speedo and ABS unaffected.Slightly wider cushions the ride but may be slightly less economical
  11. Have you considered 255 50 20. looking at http://willtheyfit.com they are very close in rolling radius and clearance seems similar to original equipment 235 55 20. they will give a softer ride but may have a little more rolling resistance so affecting consumption slightly. It is certainly opens up more available choices. I replaced Bridgestone duellers that were sidewall cracking with Continentals ,The wet performance is confidence inspiring, hitting motorway standing water at speed doesn't upset the car at all
  12. Just an update on the Continentals 235 55 20. So reassuring in the wet, when hitting standing water at motorway speeds during these storms ,the car is rock solid and tracks straight. Not sure economy has improved though!
  13. There is an electronic solenoid plate that can play up and cause that problem with sticky solenoids but if the transmission has run without oil that long you can expect it to be worn. I would replace it and check the level with the dipstick a little more often.
  14. Disappointed with sidewall cracking of Bridgestone duellers . Not a problem if you are doing mileage but I hate scrapping a tyre with tread still on it.
  15. Today I discovered if I took my hands off the steering wheel at 69 miles an hour on the M25 after pushing the lane button on my steering wheel ,after a while it told me to hold the steering wheel again. If any police are reading this, I am only kidding.
  16. Continentals have been excellent, ( only a weeks use) quieter than the original Bridgestone duellers they replaced. I can hear the radio at 2 at 30 mph immediate impression when driving away was more feel and precision. not sure if they aren't a bit stiffer than previous but ride is good. I like Continental for wet grip and when braking.
  17. If you bump the front radar out of alignment it will do this. check the mounting to see if it has moved. High bumpers of other cars bashing it when they are parking is common cause. mountings are designed to deform to avoid radar unit damage.
  18. I wouldn't mess with replacing the bearings , PiA job! The grindings from the worn bearings will have washed through the whole unit. find a replacement differential unit. Try Paul Frost they dont often go wrong , most breakers cant get rid of them and they go for scrap weight. hunt about ,especially the private sellers on ebay breaking their crashed car. Pay £100 or less https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEXUS-RX-400H-2007-SUV-3-3-RHD-HYBRID-REAR-DIFFERENTIAL-DIFF-OEM-/294060522101?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m2548.l6249&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0

  20. This circuit board seems to dislike low voltage, possibly because of the high current drawn by the tailgate operation. The pcb seems to shut down if voltage is damagingly low to avoid burning out the motor? The newer Mercedes cars are also very sensitive to battery volts and automatically and progressively shuts down equipment as voltage falls. Bmw had a memory thing on their tailgate pcb where it started in the position it was, last time it shut off , so it could get out of sync with the actual tailgate.Maybe pulling the inside handle on yours had timed it back in sync.? on the Bmw I closed the striking latch with a screwdriver while it was open and then operated the handle. Never had this problem with my old landrover……..
  21. Today I was disappointed to learn that the ejector button in the centre of the cupholder in my RX 450h 2016 DOESNT work the passenger seat ,only the front cupholder. Push a tall cup or water bottle downwards in the front cupholder and it drops right down allowing access to wireless phone charger cubbyhole. Pushing the ejector button brings it back up to normal height
  22. Cool find ,thanks Barry! I just discovered how to slide rear seats forward and recline them, great for the grand kids car seats so they lie back and sleep!
  23. It is the design of these bushes that give the ride that we enjoy as a Lexus owner ! I prefer to source factory original parts but in the case of my LS430 they are now discontinued. febibest do a fluid filled replacement that is good . These are a good alternative as our cars repairs get cost prohibitive.
  24. Am I alone in thinking that Lexus customer service is not what it was? it used to create Raving Fans……I’m not hearing that now. Since my first Lexus experience in 1999 things have changed …. all this used to be green fields……
