  1. Hi Peniole, Are you suggesting that Lexus themselves do not consider this a "good" fix? I was told that it had proved very effective in South Africa. If thefts do not come down and stay down on RX when the solution has been rolled out, the PR around this will surely be even worse? Is the existing solution compatible with the ES (I know it is not compatible with all cars equipped with CANbus controlled headlights)? If it is, what have you got to lose by having it fitted (other than a trip to the dealer)? Cheers, Paul
  2. Peter, I too had the plates fitted but given the fact that this situation took so long to resolve from the first reported CANbus enabled thefts in Japan in Feb 2001 I am unimpressed with the time taken for the solution to make it to the UK. Over 2 years... https://japantoday.com/category/crime/japanese-police-struggling-with-growing-number-of-'can-invaders'-used-to-steal-luxury-cars The protection plates were rolled out in South Africa long before they were rolled out in the UK and I am left wondering why the UK theft situation had to get so bad for any action to be taken. I agree that dealer service is remaining good but Lexus UK performance is underwhelming (on this and other issues). Many people have seen insurance go up by a factor of two partly due to this delayed action (this is a general trend but the RX increases are particularly bad). Paul
  3. Alan, This has not happened to me.... Are you talking about the Coyote speed camera service? I am still using the basic Lexus one that (for me at least) is included. Paul
  4. Alan, Can you login to My Lexus on the Lexus website? And if you use this in the online settings in the car what happens? I can concur that Lexus Link + does not work with my MM19 system. Think you need the new MM21 for it to work with Lexus Link plus. Paul
  5. I think they have been reorganising some of the back end services related to the rollout of the new app. Seems to be getting there now. Paul
  6. Hi Alan, Internet/data related services (including speed camera average speed checks) seem to be working ok for me this morning in the car. How about for you? Paul
  7. The speed cameras from the map database stil work, bit temporary ones and average speed checks (in UK at least) are provided over the internet connection. Paul
  8. I reported the lack of the speed camera icon in my MY21 RX and associated loss of the OTA speed camera notifications (e.g. average and temporary speed cameras) to customer relations. I am assuming at this point it is the usual lack of testing and general lack of capability with software that is the issue, perhaps combined with the roll out of the new app for newer vehicles that has broken something, rather than them actually turning the service off. Of course I could be wrong but that would mean people who bought 2022 MY cars (other than NX gen 2) would be looking at only having around 1 year with a fully working system. Paul
  9. Hi Warren, No problem. I think you need to buy it from the e-store in the My Lexus section of the Lexus website. (Do you already have a login there, with your car connected to your account?) Paul
  10. Hi Warren, I think this you will need to purchase. Your car probably came with 3 years of map updates from new, so these will now be over unfortunately. I think you can buy 3 years of updates for the price of one at the moment (at least you could fairly recently). Paul
  11. Alan, I have reported this issue to customer relations and they are looking into it. Paul
  12. Warren, Are you wanting to update the maps, or the underlying software (i.e. the multimedia/nav software applications)? Both is possible (if there are updates for the system itself) but probably the map data can either be done yourself over USB or by buying a new micro DC card with the new maps on (depending on system age). Neither of these should require a dealer visit. I guess being a 2018 car you have what is known as MM17 infotainment. The maps for this can be downloaded (at cost) from here and installed using a USB stick: https://www.lexus-tech.eu/Navigation/base You need to create a login, but this is free to do. You will probably need to pay for actually downloading the maps. IF you have MM17 then the map you need will be in the bottom centre of the web page. Paul
  13. I have now also had the provider not available message. I strongly suspect that some back end changes have been made which have somehow clobbered the cloud-side speed camera interface for MM19 systems. Paul
  14. Alan, I noticed this morning that the speed camera icon (that you can click to add a camera to the database) was no longer present. Glad I'm not the only one. I suspect this may have something to do with the roll out and associated back end changes for the new Lexus Link plus phone app, but it could be a coincidence. I was going to leave it a other 24h before writing again to customer relations. Did you by any chance do an over the air map update recently? Paul
  15. Does anyone know if the new app works with MM19 systems or just MM21? Paul
  16. Unfortunately the RX protection plate will not fit the NX - I already asked about this. I agree that the "not being aware" line seems a rather thin excuse. Paul
  17. Roger, that's interesting on point 1. I have read on here somewhere that this is a feature they are going to introduce on Lexus Link Pro - i.e. it wasn't ready at launch but will be introduced later on. Perhaps this is no longer the case now? Paul
  18. I asked this question and was told "it is on a new security platform". I assume that means it is not susceptible to the current CAN invader at least. Paul
  19. As I understand the CANbus only goes to the passenger side head light and the communications between the headlights is LINbus, so only one side needs doing. Can anyone confirm if this is the case? Paul
  20. The YouTube advert concentrates on self charging hybrids. It will be interesting to see if they roll out this type of policy also on plugins, or if the extended electric range of a plugin (and added performance) would not be viable for them to discount?

    RX450h+ PHEV

Hi Alan, Other than mpg, how do you find the drive train compared to the v6? I test drove a 450h+ and the drivetrain was better than I expected - and I thought it handled well. I noted the loss of the expanding door bins. Shame about the radio dropping out? DAB or FM? Also thought that insurance would not be so bad on the new model... Cheers, Paul
  22. Hi Roger, 1. Unfortunately not 2. This it doubtful. I find it works fine on regular signs but not on smart motorway electronic signs, particularly when going back to national speed limit. For some vehicles there was an ECU update for this which stopped the system recognising speed limits from the signs on the back of trucks. Perhaps ask your dealer if an update exists for your car. But in any case this system is not perfect. 3. You have the MM19 I think so yes - you should be able to send destinations to the car and see 12V battery status. 4. In my car only text messages work - emails don't. Paul
  23. I can't comment on how much this will cost to fix but please write to Lexus and tell them your NX was subjected to a failed CANbus theft. According to a Facebook post that @Herbie linked to, Lexus are currently saying that NX is not being targetted. Paul
  24. I have no experience with the MM21 system you have - but gracenote was dropped from later releases of MM19 so I'm surprised that it is even present in MM21. I had understood that the meta data was now fetched over the internet rather than streamed so I'm surprised you get this message. Paul
  25. @Herbie I'm not shooting the messenger... Just commenting on the facebook post. It may be the case that the NX is not currently being heavily targeted by UK thieves, but it seems a different story in France, with the NX being second to the RAV4. https://gettotext.com/the-toyota-rav4-was-the-most-stolen-car-in-france-in-2022/ And given this seems to have started (according to other articles on the web) in Japan in 2021, we can extrapolate the likely outcomes.... Cheers, Paul
