  1. How long do you long term owners expect a set of rear tyres to last on an rcf?
  2. Is it possible to do a poll on this forum? , it would be interesting to see which tyre most people prefer.
  3. I was suspicious as they dont even mention what the damage was in the advert that got it written off. Even if you find an insurance company that will insure a Cat car, the insurance will be a lot more. Even if you bought it, selling it on afterwards would be almost impossible as it will be the oldest year & it has plenty of mileage on it too. Obviously the damage must have been pretty bad for the insurance to write off a £30k+ car & they dont even come clean in the advert.
  4. They needed to go further to make it worthwhile making a track edition. Needed more power, more chassis tuning. Bolting on a load of carbon doesnt cut it. I nearly stepped on the carbon side sill, seems a bit daft. A lot of the RCF ads on autotrader have expired, im sure the £22995 cat N write off is still unsold. Wouldnt touch that with yours.
  5. If you got the redstuff pads would Lexus fit them instead of the oem? Or would they refuse?
  6. I do feel drawn to the Eagle F1s, I might be wrong but I remember them being the first of the newer style performance tyre with the sexy tread patterns in the early 2000s. I specifically wanted to try them on my car & thought they were great, so if there were no deals or offers on, id probably choose those.
  7. I usually go for whichever top brand & model is on offer. I dont think there's much between the Eagle f1, pilot sport etc, I've had them all on various cars & one tyre in particular doesnt seem to stand out to me.
  8. I had a 20 year old Nissan S15 turbo, the rear screen always did that on a winter morning, mainly if there was a frost.
  9. cars & cycles dont mix, the potential speed & weight differentials are too big. Whether the cyclist was in the wrong or the car driver, the cyclist always loses. People accidentally drive into motorbikes because they didnt see them all the time, cyclists are even worse, not least because some of them seem to have no fear, will go out on their bike in the dark in dark clothes & no lights or reflectors on their bike. I think they are going the wrong way with the rules. Put the bicycles back on the pavements, make them give way to pedestrians. Cyclists should use cycle paths or lanes wherever possible & if none are available they should use the pavement, when riding on the pavement give way to pedestrians, slow down or dismount if its unsafe to pass or is busy, use pedestrian crossings. End of the day if a bike runs into a person its probably not going to kill them, if a car hits a person its carnage. If they have to allow cyclists on the road, make them take an actual test & be licensed/ a CBT type test, have standards for the condition of the brakes/tyres & the riders gear. No helmet, reflectors, lights in the dark etc means you get stopped & fined if caught. Its a contentious argument for some, I guess the government would rather add fuel to the car vs bike fire than invest in more cycle routes & segregated lanes to keep them safe. I wonder how many people dont even know the rules have been updated or changed, they didnt write to every driver in the country to inform them did they. Anyway, it should be a 2 way street, more accountability for drivers, more accountability for cyclists.
  10. is it a general thing or just a thing in hot countries where the sun beats on it?
  11. I think is an act of god & not insured. Could have been worse, Id thought of spending more & waiting for a carbon edition to show up in the right colour, Im not sure if carbon roof would take a hit better than the metal roof but if it cracked or something it would probably cost a lot more to fix. The one thing I dont get about Lexus is how cheap they are with the headunit screens, the UX is by far the worst, they clearly could have put a much bigger screen in, but they make you pay extra for an upgrade option, its like a punishment for not buying a higher grade. You dont see this in Toyotas.
  12. I thought about waiting for newer used Rcf (2018) because of the lower tax but after researching, it's not actually much cheaper, you pay whatever the tax is plus an extra £350 on top for the first 6 years of the cars life because its worth over £40000 new. The person who buys the car new has to pay £1500 first year tax. So I got a 2015 anyway.
  13. Update - Been enjoying the car, playing with the drive modes, getting used to it. Best thing I learnt for the RCF is ignore the MPG meter, just drive how you like. Unfortunately after 5 days of owning it, the wind blew the TV antenna off the roof of my house & debris landed on the roof of the RCF, 1 bad & 3 minor dents & scrapes. £600 bodyshop bill coming up.
  14. Its a solution. Having to reset your favourite radio channels, the time & date etc is annoying but not the end of the world.
  15. If you look at the inside of the fuse box lid ,theres a map of the fuses & relays. It should say DC CUT on one of them or looking at a picture, in this cars case i think its the SHORT PIN fuse, thats the white one thats bigger than the rest.
  16. Couldnt you take the DC CUT fuse out, its what the manufacturers do while the car is sitting on a yard for months or at sea for weeks. it cuts off all the parasitic drains on the 12 volt battery.
  17. There are rubber mats available from Lexus oe parts. I could probably get the part number.
  18. I work at the main Toyota place in the UK & theres constant part shortages. Its mainly a lack of key fobs at the moment, they are all coming in with 1 fob. Youre probably more likely to get a car quicker if you dont order any optional extras too.
  19. Only got it a couple of days ago, back to work tomorrow so will do some miles in it, im sure it will just take some getting used to.
  20. It feels like im not in control of the power delivery, I press the accelerator, theres a pause while It decides to kick down a gear & then either I didnt press enough & it doesnt really accelerate much or I overcooked it & it takes off more than I thought or I feel it struggling for grip. Every movement of the pedal in a manual is in sync with the output of the engine, I feel a real disconnect with this. I think I might try just always using manual mode. The only other automatic ive had was a mk4 supra twin turbo, mainly because manuals were so rare. It dont remember having such issues with that, but it was only a 4 speed.
  21. I bought this car 😮. Ive gone from a manual transmission mk7.5 Golf R to this & while I like the RCF im struggling with the transmission a bit, seems a bit disconnected from my inputs with the throttle. Although i think I need to give it more time to get used to it & find the best way to drive it, im intrigued by the A'pexi throttle controller, sounds like it could be a really good improvement.
