  1. Yes - most defiantly! Bloody speed cameras. The A1 from Newcastle to Edinburgh is littered with the things! They are all programmed in to my Sat Nav and 'chime' as I get close to them to 'ahem' warn me of an accident black spot 'ahem'. So take it easy if you don't know the road. 60 mph = 100 kph (approx) If you are in no hurry then take the much more scenic rout through the Scottish Borders - Out of Newcastle on A1 till A698 then A68 up over the border and into ***'s country. Enjoy your trip and let us know when you are coming and we can have a mini meet! John
  2. Ahhhh Latent - moving closer to purchase! Good Man! Typed in PCP deal into Google and got a raft of companies - or try Lexus themselves.
  3. Erm, well, eh, hmmmm, perhaps not too often but it's nice to know it can! And the track was un rigged, it was the usual Country House Hotel jobbie, and their own track, Lexus was only visiting for the day. PS Forgot to mention the RX product manager was there. Nice guy, Paul, had met him at the Brimingham motor show, he told me he DOES read the forum and finds it useful. Don't know if he has a screen name or is just s lurker! Paul, you here?
  4. Hmmm - silver huh? Should not show the scratches too badly? I use two old towels to wash. One to shampoo and one to dry then both go in the washing machine EVERY time and if one is dropped on the ground then again straight to the washing machine. For drying I use one of these and then the dry towel - older the better, more absorbant. Then top things off with Swissol wax Purrflect!
  5. Swirl marks - or scratches are quite common on dark cars depending what you use to wash the car. What are you using, cloth, sponge, brush etc and also what polish or wax you are using. Polish will scratch your car as it is mildly abrasive where as a wax is not.
  6. I attended Edinburgh Lexus ‘open road’ event today and after 1 years ownership took the RX300 SE-L (theirs, not mine :winky: ) off-road for the first time. What a shock! Firstly, the venue must do off-road events already as they had a proper circuit. Secondly, and let’s be honest here RX owners, most of us did not buy it as a 4x4, but a luxury SUV with lots of toys, leather, nice hi-fi, silky smooth transmission to mention a few. If we had wanted a ‘real’ 4x4 it would have ‘Defender 90’ on the side, no creature comforts and skinny tyres. So I was genuinely surprised to see how well the RX performed in the messy stuff. There was a night of rain last night and there were plenty of puddles, mud, ruts etc. Even with fat road tyres the RX skipped over the course. Admittedly there was quite a bit of sideways sliding but the road tyres are bound to do that and the real steep stuff was roped off (Defender territory) As I approached the rough stuff I really did feel better having my mobile in my pocket and Simon’s (Lexus Edin sales) number programmed in just in case I got stuck but onwards and upwards and no issues! Very quickly started having fun and by the time I got back had managed to get dirt all up the sides and almost onto the windows. Comparing to the other RXs there, they only had mud around the wheel arches and along the bottom. He he – I must have been trying hard enough! Big thanks then to Ian Reynolds and Simon Lane at Lexus Edinburgh for the invite and another well run and organised Open Road event. As for the LS430, well that’s another story…………… John
  7. Some interesting points raised! For what it's worth here is my two cents.......... First on the back of the other requests........ " - Sunglasses compartment" - mine has one - it's the bit in the centre console with the foam inlay? "-cooled glove compartment -rain sensor on back window -Memory rear mirror (like the exterior ones)" - oh yes, good shout here! "I'd prefer a handbrake to a foot operated parking brake, more useful for steep hill starts." - eh have I missed something - it's an auto? Right foot on brake, left foot release foot brake, both feet on brake then right foot on accelerator then release brake? Works for me! And even that is only on verrrrrry steep hills normal hils the auto holds the car from rolling back. Others I would add to the list......... Bluetooth phone - know it's coming, can't wait. front parking sensors like the LS430 - i.e. on screen keyless entry - like, erm, again the LS430 and most importantly....................... An electronic sign on the back windscreen with pricing and full spec of RX followed by "READ IT AND WEEP X5 DRIVER" that's all......... John
  8. No idea about wait times but since they come all the way from Japan the Lexus system usually knows well in advance what is coming on the boat, what is sold and thus what is available. With regards to a deal - you will get a great one - that is a car with decent build quality compared to a Merc :winky: :winky:
  9. Given the costs worked out above........ £520 per year or, to use the sales trick, £10 per week. Not much is it when you are spending at least £30k on the car? Once you have it you will think £10 extra each week is MORE than worth it. Go on - you know you want to!
  10. Wouldn’t be with out it now! Started off thinking it was not as good as 'beepers' but grew to like it and now it is fab. If you have it and have not bothered to learn how to use it properly i.e. both modes - street and car-park parking, then do so now! Once you have the knack it makes parking sooooo easy. Oh and it's quite funny when you back up to another car and they panic because they think you are 'not looking' and then stop within inches of their bumper.
  11. Just get a cushion - a nice leather Lexus one in Oakham Leather! The RX rocks - go for it!
  12. Trying to be objective here so... Nick - I think Ian's questions were rhetorical - so I did not take them as patronising, just discussion leading. I guess this was just Ian's 'gut reaction' too. Ian - From a managing customer’s expectations point of view a wee e-mail would be nice if the delay is going to be 'till June. [edit] call just received - thanks Simon And on a pedantic note - Nick two nice big words with ‘condescension’ and ‘patronisation’ but remember it's 'their', not 'there' :winky:
  13. Just strap a child to the bumper and asked then to scream when you get too close to the car infront - sorted!

  15. Are there any warantee issues with fitting an aftermarket towbar. Especially given what has beed said about electrics?
  16. Well - how was it? Divorced with no kids yet - or happy families?
  17. Yip - me to......... I await the answers.......... Don't know why in two years I haven't asked this, just presumed it was not possible with out under bonnet wire chopping. We'll see!
  18. Welcome and enjoy - a statement rather than good wishes - you WILL enjoy!!!
  19. Great to meet you to Angus! Hope we can meet up again either for beers or at the TT re-map meet. Have put the Audi stand to the back of my mind! After writing this of course..... http://www.tt-forum.co.uk/ttforumbbs/viewtopic.php?t=26506
  20. Fidgits It was big! More kinda SUV than saloon. 20' alloys with more rubber on them than a Durex factory!! I should have taken more photos of it but perhaps 'nickjwarman' could take some more photos when he is there - Nick, would you mind? John
