  1. I couldn't make this up. I have an '07 GS in Athabasca Shale - an off-black purple. There are a few stone chips on the front which I want to take care of. My local Lexus dealer took the paint code (9AB) and found that Lexus GB do not import touch-up sticks nor spray cans in this colour. For the hell of it I rang up a Lexus dealer in Florida who readily quoted me a Toyota part no. for this code, could obtain and send on for US $10 per stick plus postage. Great stuff for a £ 50k car. My 1998 Corsa touch-up sticks and cans are still available from Vauxhall.
  2. or down on my Mk 2 GS300. It seems that the internal cable has parted company with the top section. It part extends and retracts with much whirring noises. Do I need an aerial complete or just the telescopic rod? If it's just the rod, how easy is it to fit?
  3. You should suspect/eliminate the discs. In my experience the front ones last for 20,000 miles and the rear ones for 40,000. Either will warp and cause judder on braking although with the rears you will barely feel it through the steering. My 140k 1998 is on its 7th set of front discs. I do not believe that aftermarket ones are better than the OEM ones in this respect.
  4. Here's my twp pennith. Assuming it is not just on braking, most likely cause is wheel balacing. Otherwise it could be a slight buckle on a front wheel which cannot be eliminated on balancing. That's what I found. Get the front and back wheels interchanged and see if it goes away. Simples!
  5. Do you mean a Series 2 or a Series 3? I have a 2007 Series 3 GS430
  6. You should test for charging at 1500 rpm minimum with heated rear window and headlights off. You should see 13.5 - 14 volts otherwise the charging circuit needs attention.
  7. Thanks guys. I'm a great believer in e-bay but those on offer seem to be thin velour rather than OEM carpet quality. I'll follow through on Jemster's advice.
  8. My GS could do with a new set of mats. I still have the original Lexus ones which came with the car 140,000 miles ago! Where can I find mats of comparable heavy quality? Lexus GB now show this as an obsolete item.
  9. Your standard rim size is 17" not 15". If you go to 18" you will need some geometry changes.
  10. I've just come home after doing over 300 miles today in my 135,000 mile GS which drives the same as when it was new. I rest my case.
  11. From your pointer about being worse on wet days, I'll wager you are losing high-tension voltage due to dampness. Maybe a lead or the electronics.
  12. I wouldn't go curb-crawling with that lot on. It looks like a smash and grab at Halfords
  13. That does not sound right to me. I cannot imagine a mechanical event that could cause this. Sounds more like a spillage - does anyone else use your car?
  14. My lexus is being serviced. I'm here in my own free-wheeling Accord.
  15. It is a standard bulb, but not as we know it. It's a capless type - make sure it is well-seated and tested before you screw the assembly back. This is an easy job, once you've done it once.
  16. The glove box light only comes on when the sidelights are on. I wonder if there is a clue in that.
  17. Pleased it worked for you. I take it you mean to be able to program the satnav while on the move. Finding a software solution is elusive so far. It can be done by minor wiring changes according to fellow owners on the US forum with the bonus that DVDs can be viewed on the move (by passengers of course). I'm reluctant to start disturbing trim and cutting wires.
  18. Sequence as follows: 1. Ignition switch ON by pressing twice. Red lamp and display operative 2. Press the ODO/TRIP switch in drawer so that display shows ODO 3. Ignition switch OFF 4. Ignition switch On by pressing twice. Red lamp and display operative 5. Immediately press the ODO/TRIP swich for 10 seconds. Continue holding while fastening the drivers seat belt (this needs practice and possibly some physiotherapy) 6. The display will show 'b-on'. Release and press the ODO/TRIP button to cycle it to 'b-off' 7. Switch the ignition switch off The buzzer should now be disabled for all subsequent journeys
  19. I've managed to switch off the seat belt warning buzzer on my '07 GS without taking the dash down and cutting wires. Not that I advocate driving unbelted but the noise is so irritating. It's not covered in the manual. If anyone wants to do the same, let me know and I'll list out the sequence. I'm now working on taking out the satnav being controlled by the speed sensor. Any tips welcome.
  20. re Dave's question - the bearing expands if the car is hot and makes a grinding noise. I didn't fancy having the steering column stripped out.
  21. A motor wirring noise is normal but if it is excessive (as mine is in hot weather) then this is a significant job. Steering column out and dismantled to replace the bearing.
  22. This is a serious response, no matter what you think! Check your driver's floormat. Is it well clear of the pedals? If not, pressing the brake can apply mat pressure on the organ-type accelerator pedal. It happened to me and I'd even booked the car in to be checked over. The dealership said I wasn't the first.
