  1. thats true enough barry cos the oxidised surface is more stable looks ugly though and you get no bling points for it :D
  2. always happy to lend a helping hand others have given me advice that helped so its just repaying the favour by the way i reckon i can get the balancing done but my friends at rolls royce will be doing it
  3. have asked the question anyway of one of my contacts will know later on so will post what i know then
  4. Cheers for this Legendswraith, Have just rung Chris from there, they say that they need to be converted from Cermic to steel, rebuild and the max I'm looking for the repairs in £575 per turbo, that's £1150 to repair the car. The car is not worth the expense of this. I can get hold of a complete Aristo TT engine for £500 - £600 Shipped, but don't have either the money or storage for at least a couple of months. ← if its just a case of changing the bearings then you could press them in and out yourself just find a bearing company they usually have massive stocks and give them the bearing specs as for the turbo impellor i would think ideally it would have to be dynamically balanced and checked for run out etc it just so happens that we have a balancing bay around here i don't know if they can do someting that small though if you decide to give it a go yourself pm me and i will give them a bell and see if its possible if they can do it i would think they would
  5. That is well funny! That's my mind made up then. I'm staying single! ← either stay single or marry into money :D any lexus dealers out there with beautiful daughters
  6. ive had Sierra RS cosworth Sierra XR4x4 RX-7 Audi A4 quattro turbo BMW 5 Alpina got married Peugeot 309 Metro VW Passat got divorced Lexus GS300 theres a lesson to be learned there ;)
  7. thats a good point didn't think of that
  8. must admit though when i get my new alloys and tyres i will nitrogen fill them but purely to keep the alloys in good condition on the inside but i wouldn't bother if it wasn't free and if you want a serious mistake with filling tyres with gas then i have seen someone blow their tyre up with oxygen (from a safe distance)
  9. http://www.universal-turbos.com/head.htm a quick look turned this up they offer turbo reconditioning http://www.turbotechnics.com/components/servicekit.htm also found this but it says trade only its a recon kit for toyota turbos i don't know if yours will be on there
  10. Correct. Open the bonnet and have a look ← mine looks a bit different :) ← you have to laugh it was a simple question and now everyones under their bonnets locating the water pump :D like i said to begin with i haven't done one on a lex but as a rule front left seems pretty generic
  11. seems to be alot of people think that the water pump is near behind or on the cam belt the question is is it from experience or is it from what the garages have told you ?
  12. is there such a thing as a laminate disc besides composite ?
  13. if its an alloy they are usually aluminium alloy so it will only be surface corrosion (you would be extremely unlucky to get intergranular corrosion) you can use scotchbrite to get the old powdercoat and oxidisation off and then spray it from a can just make sure you get all the powdery white corrosion off and degrease it otherwise it will come back through
  14. i'm the other way about unfortunately they are jet engines but alot of the turbo stuff is very similar to gas turbines
  15. good luck with it hope it all goes along easily
  16. i may be interested in your knacked turbos if you decide to get new ones rather than get them reconditioned
  17. well its good they are cleaning out the tyre before filling them with nitrogen gets rid of all the moisture and it will stop your alloys from rotting inside too at that price its worth it just to keep from developing any leaks in the future
  18. i got a quote for tints from 30/70 at the windscreen to dark smoke at the rear screen from http://www.mrtinter.co.uk/ was about £240 don't know what hes like but he comes to you and does it if you are interested
  19. dunno how the turbo bearings work besides going round are they floating bearings or taper and pin bearings ? with the high revs and no oil could be the bearings if you caught it early enough shouldn't be a problem
  20. i can help you with this one because we use nitrogen to inflate aircraft tyres, the only reason it is used is because it is an inert gas and in the event of a brake fire it will not add to the problem. Nitrogen is a heavier than air gas as well so as infintesimal as it is it will add some weight the only value you will get from this is if you maintain nitrogen inflation constantly because if you put air in to top it up then you will lose the properties of the nitrogen. The main benefit i can see for car tyres is it will not cause the alloys to corrode and the rubber inside will not break down as quick but you will wear the tyre out before you can oxidise the rubber.
  21. i am the same in i now need to start looking to get on the property ladder and have been expecting the prices to drop off because it is incredibly difficult for first time buyers to get on the market now all i would say is to echo a few other feelings wait till the autumn/winter especially with a general election in the offing you never know whats on the cards and a change of goverment can easily affect the economy
  22. to be honest this is the first car i was going to get dealer serviced as it has a flsh i am seriously going off the idea now looking at posts like these i know its but anyone know the major servicing schedule ?
  23. remeber Gordon saying something about not using slick 50 and on a similar note what about engine flushes as in an oil additive to aid the changing of the oil ?
