  1. Hi guys, I bought a beautiful mica red 06 is250 back in February and since then it has gone through oil pretty quickly. The manual says anything up to 1l per 600miles is acceptable and mine is probably using about a litre per 1.2k. This suprised me at first because my previous is200 never used a drop. However, seeing as I am going to have to top it up regularly, what oil does everyone recommended? Lexus' own is £70 for 5l which isn't too bad but any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, James
  2. Hi All I've decided to post another Mod for under £10. After getting my alloys back from being refinished in Shadow Chrome the silver Wheel caps didn't quite look right on the car. I have seen that the IS-F has back centers with the graphite wheels which I think looks pretty good, So I started to look around the internet to buy some of these and the only place I could get them was from the USA for £100 for a set! So here's the cheap fix! You will need: Can of Gloss Black spray paint Drill and 6mm Drill bit Scotch-bright pad cleaning spirit news paper or painting paper Super glue 1. Removing the silver Lexus badge. place the badge upside down on a covered surface to avoid any damage to the badge. carefully drill out the tabs holding the badge in place, don't drill too far the plastic is quite thin, just remove the heads. Once the heads have been drilled off you should be able to push the silver badge out of the center cap. 2. Prep for paint. Using the Scotch pad key up the surface and edges of the center caps until you can see that there are tiny scratches across the entire surface. In a clean area put paper and mark out you painting area, If you are working in a dusty environment use a hoover or air compressor to clean the area before hand to avoid getting any dirt in your paint. With cleaning spirit and a cloth or tissue wipe the surfaces of the center caps clean and place them in the painting area. 3. Painting. Ensure you shake your can of paint well before use, to ensure a even and good coverage dust the paint over the center caps gradually. If you hit the caps too heavy with the paint you will end up with paint running and an uneven paint job. Once you are done painting leave the paint to dry. 4. Reassembly. once the paint has totally dried flip the center caps and apply a small dab of glue into the back of the holes where the silver logo studs sit. Place the logos back into the caps and allow the glue to dry. Once everything has dried add the center caps back to your car :) Thanks for reading, I hope you found this useful. Let me know what you think. If you would like to see what else i'm doing with my car please follow me on Instagram @gtownsman.
  3. Hi there - my first post. I have a '58 IS250 that I love and which drives beautifully. However, I can't stop looking atRX400's. My budget isn't much and I'm looking at quite high mileage models, around 80-90k. 2006-2007 vintage. Is that a problem? Can I expect to replace the cam belt etc.? Will the Sat Nav be any use? I'm getting around 25mpg from my IS - will an RX be about the same? I'm looking at cars from independent traders as I can't afford to go through a Lexus dealer. Any advice will be very welcome. Many thanks, Rod
  4. I wonder if anyone come across with their Lexus IS220D making creaking noises from suspension when going over bumps. It doesn't creak when you drive over rough surface etc. It sounds like coming from the front area. The strange thing is noise cannot be recreated by pushing up and down at either side of the shock bar area while it is not moving. I even shake the car on MOT test plate machine. It does not make a sound. Garage couldn't find any problem with ball joint, links, coils and shock absorb bar. It is really frustrating that it creaks like hell only when you drive over the speed bump. The steering feel absolutely fine. No abnormal behavior going over pot holes or cornering. Mechanic thinks it might be sway bar/anti roll bar bushes but it is just a guess. I don't wanna be attacking the wrong target. Just to let you now, I have already lube and sprayed copper grease and Lithum grease to sway bar bush from outside but I haven't taken it out and grease it.. It doesn't make any improvement at all. Any suggestion or help will be greatly appreciated. I am now loosing sleep over it.
  5. Good morning! As I just brought my IS250, I am looking for a suitable diagnostic software that will give me the opportunity to change some electronic settings (such as auto-locking, the timer for the lights to turn off or on, and so on) Because I am a former Audi/VW driver I intend to find something closer to VAG-Com. I will appreciate your help! Thank you in advance!
  6. Subtle improvement for under £10 - Brake Calipers I've just sent off my Alloys to be refurbished and left my IS250 on axle stands on my driveway looking rather sad. With the wheels off I noticed how shabby my brake calipers were looking and I thought I could make some cheap improvements while the wheels were off. I started with a good scrub with a stiff brush and some lightly soaped hot water, I then allowed everything to dry off before wiping everything with a cloth to remove any final debris. Here is what I was left with. I think decided to pickup some gun metal grey spray paint from my local auto shop, after some quick masking and a light dusting the calipers looked like this. I then thought It would be nice to have the Lexus branding on the Calipers, so I printed the logo onto some card and cut it out carefully with a craft knife to make a stencil. I then used the stencil to dust some sliver spray paint I had going spare over the calipers to get the finished product like so. Thanks for reading, I hope you found this useful. Let me know what you think. I'm also going to make some cheap improvements in the engine bay and I will be sure to post on here when I have done them. Thanks George I regularly post updates on what i'm doing with my cars on Instagram @Gtownsman
  7. Hi, I'm thinking of getting a Lexus IS250 Auto. I've been looking online and the tech specification show the following MPG: Urban 22.2 mpg Extra Urban 40.4 mpg Average 31.0 mpg Is anyone getting anywhere near these figures. I know normally they are not very accurate and I do a lot of mileage so need to check! Also I wanted to get the car LPG converted, but contacted a few companies and they said they can't as it s a direct injection system. Has anyone manage to get it done? Thanks
  8. Hi guys, I'm a newbie to this forum but have owned a Lexus for 5 years now. I had a 57 plate is220D for 5 years without even having to change a light bulb and have recently bought a 4 year old is250C, which is a beaut! Unfortunately The heater has just packed up and it's very cold out! First noticed it last week; it didn't work, then it did, now it's gone again? I read a post that it could be coolant level, I checked it and it was low. I topped it up and still no joy. Thanks
  9. I would really appreciate your advice. I am looking into buying an IS250 (always admired them!). I viewed a 2008 IS250 auto with 43k miles on the clock today, with full Lexus service history. I took the engine oil filler cap off and looked inside using a torch - there appears what looks like paint flaking off on the wall of the engine - there was a ragged line of this, which looked a bit like a crack. I have never come across this before and would really appreciate some advice from you guys, as you are much more familiar with these cars than I am! I wondered if it could be carbon deposits or oil residue - but it gave the appearance of what I can only describe has paint flaking off. Also, the exhaust looked quite rusty, which surprised me as I thought they were stainless steel. Have you come across this before in your own IS250'S? I am really grateful to hear your thoughts and advice on this. Thank you for any help in advance. Will
  10. Hi everyone I have just bought a low mileage (24k miles) IS250 SE-L on a 08 plate from a non Lexus dealer. Very pleased with the car so far. After 4 Lexus services the car had 2 non franchise services and certainly not the 6 year major . Lexus have offered to welcome it back into the fold with: A 2 year Essential Careplan covering 2 services and 2 MOTs for £550 A 2 year Lexus Extended Warranty for £795 In addition they initially suggested a major service as car is 6 years old but I balked at over £700! They have now suggested that I can have the plugs done on top of a careplan service for an extra £200 Balancing all this against a quote from a well respected independant of £295 for a major. I'm thinking getting back on warranty makes it worth going for the Lexus careplan Would welcome members' thoughts Thanks Al
  11. Hi All, I have just graduated from IS200 to IS250. :) I am delighted with my new car, a 2008 IS250 SR. I have wanted one of these for a few years and read up on them extensively. I just wanted to know if there are any hints and tips that you can offer from the group's collective experience. I understand the mechanicals are pretty bulletproof but what mods and additional maintenance works well with these cars?
  12. Hello, I put my 2IS on the dyno. These are the results: my 2IS: Power: 197,5 HP(M) @ 6310 rpm Torque: 246Nm @ 3766 rpm Milage 106 000 km Temperature 28 C series (expected): Power: 207 HP(M) @ 6400 rpm Torque 250 Nm @ 4800 rpm Seems I lost 10 HP(M). We do not have much 2IS in Polish forum to compare results so I want your opinion., Thx, turmoll
  13. Wonder if anyone can help. This morning I found an 18mm bolt on the pavement at the entrance to my drive. Not sure if this has dropped of my 2007 is250. It looks like it's got black paint/under seal on it. Anyone have any ideas? Could it be off a brake calliper or suspension strut. Any help would be appreciated.
  14. Hi guys! Having looked at the competition - C-Class, 3 Series etc I'm seriously considering an IS as an alternative based on the fact it seems to represent excellent value for money. I'm currently in an Abarth 500 which is a horror to live with on a daily basis, particularly now my main mileage is motorway - around 10k a year - with a long 320 mile round trip once a fortnight. So basically I need something bigger, comfy and reasonably economical - the Abarth will do about 50mpg on the motorway - where it really matters about MPG. Done a lot of reading, read a lot of reviews and am now torn between the 220D and 250. What should I go for given the above? If I'll see 40+ on the Motorway from the 250 - it's a serious, and preferable option, I'm no fan of Diesels, but needs must with that fortnightly trip. What other things should I look out for. I want leather, that's non negotiable and have a budget of around £8500-10k. Due to the miles I'll be putting on, I want a car with no more than 40k and no older than a 2008 really and I know that's easily achievable with that budget. If I get on with it I will probably run it for another 30k before changing. But what about the other stuff like Satnav - is it worth it? There are plenty out there I know but where to start? Thank you in advance!
  15. I upgraded to the new is250 in September last year, and so far I think I preferred the previous is250 that I had. I decided to take the SATNAV option as I found the Multi Media aspects of the basic audio system somewhat awkward to use while driving. Thoughts on car so far:- Doesn't drive as well as previous model - I can "feel" it changing gears which I never did in the old model, and it doesn't feel as "planted" driving at high speed. First time I lifted the boot lid, I nearly smacked myself in the face as it was just so light - had close look at it and it's covered in very cheap looking plastic over the hinges. Not very Lexus at all!! I always play my music from a USB memory stick, placed in the USB slot in the arm rest, imagine my surprise to find the arm rest will not close with a normal sized and length Memory Stick. Not sure Lexus thought of that one during the redesign - I had to buy a USB connector cable so my memory stick would lie in the arm rest and not impinge on it closing. I'm don't really have a lot of experience in using SATNAV but it does make some strange decisions about the route, but I guess I'll continue to ignore it if I know better. Randomly, Audio switches itself off either at start-up time, or during play back. I had software upgrade done last week and it's made no difference so it's back to Lexus about that I guess. I will check the manual, but it seems one of my reversing lights has expired so that needs looking at if indeed I should have two.
  16. Hi Guys! Hope all is well! I have this button on my Lexus IS250 SR but I dont know what it does. I got the car yesterday. Picture: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=561313040621342&set=a.384726938279954.95269.384718644947450&type=1&theater Any help would be great! Thanks!
  17. Hi guys, Been frantically reading up on the IS250 in the forums for the past couple of days since we've decided to purchase one. I do have a tight budget as this car will be my run around (luxurious run around!) so we're looking for a rattle free 05 / 06, automatic and preferably the SE-L. Looking for something under 100k miles with a FSH, ideally i'm interested in someone who's about to PX their car. The budget i'm looking at is at a very tight £5k - £5.5k. I'd sooner get a lexus than a ford focus or a vW golf ! Any help or pointers would be lovely. cheers AG
  18. Hi I've just purchased a 2008 Lexus IS250 manual, thanks to my dad! Picking it up at 4pm from Woodford Leux. I've never owned a Lexus before or anything "prestige" so really looking forward to this. I can't believe the amount for kit you get for your money. BMW's, Merc's and Audi's don't have anywhere near as much stuff for the money. Any advice on accessories and getting the best fuel economy from this car would be greatly appreciated :)
  19. Hello Everyone .... Merry Christmas I am going to be a Dad soon .. I own a lexus is250 2010. I am confused as to what car seat is the best for my car. I would prefer to fix it in the centre of the rear seats. I have researched a lot however i am still not able to decide . Your expert advice is much appreciated. Enjoy your holidays........
  20. Hi guys, I rang up my local Lexus dealership earlier to ask about F sport accessories in the UK for the IS250. (Brakes, intakes exhausts ect) Turns out they know nothing about them..Anyone have any luck with getting F sport parts in this country and what it does for warranty? I asked the dealer what would happen if I got parts from Lexus USA and had them fitted here and he said it would void parts of the warranty, which surely seems a bit wrong considering they're official Lexus parts? What do you guys think?
  21. As the weather is supposed to get warmer I thought it was time to think seriously about next winter. Last year I ran the 220d on ordinary tyres and it was no great problem as it's fairly flat here and we didn't get too much snow. This year it will be an is250 and I read a lot of talk about the lack of grip so I was thinking maybe of finding some all season 18" tyres. My reasoning is that I have nowhere to store winter/summer tyres and in any case I'm reluctant to have tyres changed and wheels balanced and all that clatting about twice a year. In theory it would be better to have two sets of wheels but again storage is the big problem. So, does anyone have experience of all season tyres especially on the is250? Are they any good? Are they much noisier? Are there any makes to go for or avoid? Also posted here - http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=77460
  22. I am doing a couple of modifications to the rear of my car. Thought I would just let you all know that the words "Lexus" and "IS 220 d" have 6 locator pins. Therefore if you remove them, you will have to fill the holes and paint the boot lid.
  23. Hi there, I have a IS250 sport which was in an accident. the car is now fixed and on the road. the only part i need is a front wheel. Its and 18" 225 wheel with 10 spokes. Does anyone have one of these they could sell me or know where to get one. A picture of the car and the wheels is attached.... Any help would be greatly appriciated. https://www.dropbox.com/s/pbcivnwhahy9ub8/2012-06-30%2016.55.14.jpg
  24. Hi all I started this topic on Wheels & Tyres but no takers so I thought I'd try on here. Any thoughts welcome. http://www.lexusowne...=0
