Have I Just Broke My Ignition?

Hi,

I just parked up (luckily outside my house) and left the key in the ACC position in the ignition while listening to something on the radio. For some reason I must have had pressure on the key (not much though!) pulling it out and it popped out...

No matter how much I try when I place the key back in I can't turn it clockwise or anti-clockwise, so basically its stuck in the ACC position...

So because of this the light on the time on the dash is on, I can't lock my doors etc etc :o

Can anyone assist me to fixing this? Any help??

Noooooooooooooooooo :(

hi mate,

to get a new barrel cut to fit your existing key is about 80 pounds, and takes about 2 weeks you CAN get this done thru your lexus dealer - u need to know the key number tho ( they should also have this on file)

if they say they cant get it done or dont know about it go to another dealer.

for 150 u can get a complete new set of keys and barrels, but then they need to be fitted. the hardest of which is the drivers door.

have a look at these links and it will help u, I know as i have experienced the same thing and wrote the articles.

if u need help send me a PM.

ta rob.

the only info i have on getting a new barrel for your existing key, is that i know you can get it done as i had one on order but had to cancel it, but they took all the info, key number/chassis number etc and put the order in. it takes about 2 weeks tho.

if i understand they want to give u a new barrel and a new key for the ignition? but keep ur existing keys for ther door/boot?

to change the ignition barrel takes about 30 mins at the most 45 mins ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM. it is really easy to do also. a full guide is in the post above.

I think u need to contact anopther dealer to be honest personally i would speak with another member chris.s as he works at a lexus dealer and knows the score.

Your "quick fix" looks worth a go! So just to clear up did you remove any of the interior to give the cylinder a quick 'tap' or did you aim just on the actual metal of the ignition (near where the key goes in)?

Thanks

just where the key goes in, but give it a quick sharp tap on the housing, rather than the actual barrel, but if that fails try and tap the barrel but be careful!!!!!! if u hit it too hard (and i mean hard) you could end up damaging the entry way for the key.
