Hi

Can anyone tell me the correct engine oil viscosity for a Lexus IS 220d or recommend an oil to use as a top up oil between services. Ideally I would like an oil that is available from either a petrol station or halfords.

Thanks

David

first thing to do is check weather your dealer has put mineral or synthetic in at the service.which ever is the case sae 5w30 is the preferred choice see page 266 of your manual.

It seems different dealers have different views.

In Milton Keynes they recommended mineral, at Edgware Road, London and Hatfield recommended Fully Synthetic. A Lexus mechanic, name and location witheld, suggested 5w50 fully synthetic, cheaper, works just as well and longer lasting. Not the first time I've heard that.

Always a confusing decision.

Yup they do - two dealers around me both said they use 5/30 semi, along with a number of other dealers I called around the area. The first service I paid extra for fully but now I just leave it to them, any problems and the extended warranty can sort it.
