1999 Rx300 Import - Speedo Conversion Question (Kph To Mph)

Recommended Posts

Hello folks, just moved over to the RX section of the site from the LS side (somehow this seems weird saying that).

Anyway, I have my eye on a 1999 RX300 import which has only done 85k and is going for a decent price by the looks of it.

The first question that came to mind was the speedo. It looks like there are KPH markings but no MPH markings from the pictures. Can this be rectified? and at a relatively low cost?

I noticed the fog light is there and it has been registered officially now in the UK but this did get me thinking about the speedo (dont like reading KPH figures as I have no idea what any KPH figure is in MPH and vice versa).

Any help on any potential problems with these cars as well would help and what to look for. I do plan on going to see it this weekend.

Many thanks

D.T.

Oh, one more thing that has got me thinking. I assume that because the mileage part of the speed is digital then the mileage would appear higher as it will still be showing Km's and miles? Can this be put back safely or is it best leaving the whole thing untouched?

Thanks again

I'm sure it can...

I used to have a Lexus Soarer ( great car, 4 litre V8 ) and work had been done to resolve all these standard issues.

Best to catch up with a Japanese import specialist, who I am sure can advise you/

I've just sold a Toyota Celica, Japanese import, and for that I had a small unit which fitted into the line from the sender in the gearbox to the speedo head. This had the effect of reducing the number of pulses to the speedo by the ratio of 16/10. I then bought a new dial card for the speedo from a chap on the Celica Club UK site which showed the readings in MPH instead of KPH. The total cost, nine years ago was less than £50.00.

I'm sure that if you enquired on any of the Toyota sites you'd be able to find the information and hardware that you need.
