Hotel keys, mobile phones and car keys.

Sitting here bored in a hotel room. Got me thinking.

When I checked in I put my room key (credit card type) in my pocket next to my phone. When I got to the room the key did not work. Had this before, seems like the phone wipes the hotel key.

But I usually keep my car key in the same pocket as my phone. Can the phone interfere with the car key or vice versa. Had a few times when I take my phone out my pocket and it has no signal. Wondered if this was the car key interfering with the phone signal.

Any thoughts?

Depends on the frequency of the objects. Both car key and hotel check in card are radio waves and I reckon operate on similar frequency? Or could be other objects interfering too!

you will probably find that the room card is using a magnetic strip if you have the card next to

your phones speaker the speakers magnet can wipe the magnetic strip rendering your key useless
