IS 220d HG Issues inevitable?

Recommended Posts

Ok.. so I acquired a 220d a couple of weeks ago, the car has 110k on the clock and its fine at the moment, doesnt loose coolant and drives fine (not been on a run yet) is it a matter of when not if that the HG will fail?

Does servicing make a difference? Is there a particular mileage that it becomes more vulnerable? any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Could just be the  luck of the draw lol, there still seems to be a fair few IS220D out there still going,I would probably say if they are well looked after and maintained then they are less likely to go wrong 😁

It's certainly not inevitable, at least from my understanding.

I think good servicing is always important, but I don't believe it would make a particular difference to this specific head gasket issue.

I also am not aware of mileage making a significant difference, in fact, it appears to be total random if/when it occurs.  My old IS220d is still going well with over 160k miles on it with no sign of head gasket issues (touch wood).

So it may work out to be a bit ‘Russian Roulette “ when it comes to the head gasket failure but that is not the only major fault that this car seems to present regularly when used‘normally’ ie egr probs / excessive smoke / low mpg & limp mode all that coupled with a manual box only option. So for me wanting to be the owner/driver of a Lexus it is not a car I would choose,

Thanks for the input Guys.

In reality this car chose me, I bought it as sales stock and as nothing is moving at the moment I've decided to keep it.. even if its just for the ML sound system lol

Cheers

At one point they all blow gasket. Usually at 180k mark. No way around it.

I'm curious to know how you came about such a specific figure?
