Intermittent Wipers Not Working Properly

Hi all,

I've found lots of threads about wiper issues, but I can't find this particular one...

No matter what speed/frequency I twist the dial to when on the intermittent setting, my wipers always move at the same rate. It's really frustrating as when it's only lightly raining, the wipers will move constantly without delay, even if I have them on the lowest intermittent setting. I end up having to manually push the stalk up to wipe the windscreen every few seconds instead which isn't ideal.

Has anyone else experienced this or might know what the fix is?

I don't think wipers are included in the OBD2 error codes but you could read/have them read and see if anything shows up.

Below is a screenshot from the RX450h workshop manual so it's not ideal but I think the systems may be similar enough to help.

The second column gives the possible causes with the most likely candidate at the top. I would suggest that unless you have a warranty on the car, or you have the required electrical test gear, it may be best to go to an auto-electrician to have it sorted.

Thanks for the info Herbie, that's good to know. I'll take a look.

As usual the wipers are ECU (Lexus call it a relay) so Herbs advice is the best way forward.

If you can understand it the link below is for the circuit diagram or a least for an auto electrician.

I had a problem in that when I turned to the rain sensing setting, the wiper swept only once despite any change to the sensor setting on the stalk. It turned out to be the actual sensor on the windscreen had been dislodged when the car was cleaned by the dealer. I managed to work out how to remove the sensor unit and fit it back properly.
