Hi all

Thinking of coming back to the fold,🤔 would a 2019 UX 250h E4 AWD FSport with Takumi Pack, 26,000 miles be a sound purchase in your opinion?

Any thoughts?

Yes Tim at around £25'000 with around 6 years of warranty left that would be a good purchase

Any particular reason why re the AWD?  For the spec mileage and cost it would appear to us to be a good buy but if there is something we should know, would appreciate it.

Nothing wrong with the AWD models but it is an added expense which gives you a drop in performance (unlike the other hybrids that gain power from the extra motor), economy and boot space.

It isn't really the type of vehicle that benefits from AWD IMO and a FWD with all-season tyres is going to perform better than the AWD on its standard summer tyres for example, but that would be dependent on your use case and environment.

With regards to the UX as a suitable vehicle in general, just make sure the boot space is sufficient for your needs - it is very small.

E-Four made its UK debut in 2005 in the Lexus RX 400h. Since then its performance and capabilities have been constantly improved, most recently with a significant performance upgrade in 2018. This made 30% more torque available to the rear wheels, enabling the vehicle to deal with more challenging low-grip conditions than before. An AWD Integrated Management (AIM) system ensures optimal power distribution.

The sophistication of AIM has allowed E-Four to extend its advantages. By coordinating torque distribution and the application of brakes across the rear axle, mid-corner stability is enhanced, allowing the system to counter over- and understeer and trace a line that is faithful to the driver’s intentions. It also helps secure stable progress when pulling away on snow, sand or other tricky surfaces.

The rear motor additionally serves as a generator for the car’s regenerative braking system, increasing the amount of kinetic energy that can be captured when braking or decelerating and storing it as electric power in the hybrid Battery.

Oh yes the marketing sounds great. However whereas the 400h had a 67 bhp rear motor the UX has a 7 bhp one. It may act as a generator when braking, but generation capacity is a function of its power and therefore generates very little - and certain not enough to overcome its weight, hence why the economy is 7% worse.

You lose a little bit of boot capacity will use a little more fuel. The main reason I wouldn't have the AWD is I don't think what driving I do requires it. Admittingly in snow ice etc. will handle the road better but what small amount of snow we get I don't think would justify having AWD. It is a good spec though but not for me.
