Alloy repair recommendations

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Embarrassed to say it, but 3 of 4 of my (300h F-Sport) alloys have curb damage 😅  Thankfully I have Gard-X cover for the alloys, however, Gard-X won't be able to repair them with their mobile service, because they are "too damaged" and have instead asked me to get repairs done myself and they will reimburse me up to £150 per alloy.

Is there anything I have to be mindful of if I'm getting the alloys repaired?

Does Lexus offer alloy repair services? And if not, does anyone have a recommended garage/workshop in Hertfordshire/North London area?

I can vouch for these guys both for repair and refurbishment. First used them about seven years ago and most recently last year. They are based in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, near Junction 4 of the M40. The owner, Howard, used to own and run an Aston Martin restoration business and takes pride in his work. They repair to Zürich insurance welding standards. https://alloyweldcraft.co.uk/

Managed to get my alloys refurbed by a highly rated local outfit, Auto Wiz (Welwyn Garden City), happy with the results despite not being the exact match as OEM.

On the basis that prevention is better than cure, I would suggest that this rim damage would have been prevented by fitting a set of Alloygators..That’s certainly been my experience!

Having now incurred the cost of a repair, it may be something you’d like to consider to help prevent further such damage.

That's my main struggle. Need to get mine repaired either. But for me 100% oem match is essential. It seems like for me lexus dealers is the only option.

I’m tempted and been looking at prevention measures but I’ve also got Alloy/tyre damage cover - which so far has paid itself off - with another 2 years coverage left 😅

I suspect the only dealer option would be replacement wheels or they call in a mobile refurbishment service, so you would be better of shopping round for a specialist repairer.

Do you have the name of the specific colour they used?

I can't speak for Jay's wheels, but the wheel company I use refer to the OEM style finish as Shadow Chrome. It's not a single colour though, it's a custom process.

The wheel is stripped to bare metal and powdercoated gloss black, then sprayed with a few coats of the silver colour, then a clear lacquer is applied as the final step.

This is how my wheels turned out after I requested the OEM finish, but slightly darker.

How much did it cost? Also @Jai how much did it cost you?

They cost £84 per alloy (£70 exc. VAT), which was reasonable considering  my alloy/tyre insurance covered me for £150 per alloy.

£60+VAT for me.

Sounds very reasonable plus the colour and finish does look closer to original. What company did you use?

It has already been done once with perfect colour match. At least dealer offer wheels repaint.
