Took my rx450h to Lexus to check damage caused by attempted theft via and headlamp assembly. Was advised that the connector clamp and Ecu is damaged and so the car needsa replacement ecu and a replacement engine bay wiring harness requires replacement at a cost of £12,500 !!  Seems excessive! Could anyone advise if a full harness is required or just ecu and connector required to the harness?

thanks

Yes I’ve already started a claim but I suspect my premium with rocket!

Its a common issue in London and hence why they've had protection plates out to prevent theft for a few months now. Won't help now but get them fitted by the dealer when its done to prevent it happening in the future.

Probably just needs some wires soldering and potentially connectors replacing. Likely Lexus would not support repair so will require replacement. There is a reason why those that work at the coalface in the servicing repair functions are called 'technicians' and not engineers....

Thanks. Yes Lexus are fitting the plate after work completed.

Unforunately so, but that's what it's there for.

Sadly too many people buy insurance just because it's a legal requirement, but are then scared to claim on it because of the potential premium increase, even if one has no claims discount protection.

I think there should be legislation which acknowledges that one's initial premium is already based on a calculated risk factor, and so a claim shouldn't come as such a surprise to an insurer that they have to substantially increase the premium. Further, there should be a legislated limit as to how much, if at all, they should be allowed to increase premiums if one has paid for no claims discount protection.

Given the current rises in insurance, I'm sure there's a market for an enterprising insurance company to offer say 3 years cover at a guaranteed fixed price, subject to x number of claims over that period.

Excellently put Bill. I agree 110%.

My personal experience is that when I searched for quotes for another is250 the prices I was getting were nearly double to that I paid last year.

Yes my is250 got written off and I have over 20 years NCB protection.
