Uprating reverse lamps........

Recommended Posts

Now dark nights are here can the reverse lamps be uprated?

It was a simple and effective job on my RAV4 PHEV but doesn't appear so on the UX250.

Anyone done this? Thanks in advance.

In what way William.  Mine are good enough to make the reversing camera like daylight.   You can tap into them behind the bumper.

Unlike Don, I thought my reversing light was rubbish and nowhere near as good as my previous car  - a Honda Accord.

Of course, it might be down to the age of my car.

Anyway, I changed it for this LED wedge-base Philips bulb and transformed the view in the reversing camera.  I don’t know if your Lexus uses the same fitting, but for £12 it’s not a huge risk.

Hi Don, it's the side coverage - there is a high concrete step to be avoided and in these inclement dark nights I have given it to much clearance resulting in me being too close to a fence and needing a reshuffle.

Mines got two leds low down.  I’ll try and get a photo of the reversing camera in the dark to show you.  Like you say, bulb upgrades are the first to try.

The UX has LED reversing lights as standard and therefore don't have standard bulbs/sockets or easy access to them. They appear to be LW5B type so you could try upgrading them - plenty of options from China. But given the tiny lens that is slightly recessed I'm not sure you will get much of an improvement at the sides.

If it's a specific location you're struggling in, don't forget to consider local/non-car solutions like a motion floodlight in your drive.

Good shout, however that location is not my ground 😒.

Thanks Colin, I suspect you are correct. The more I park there the better it's getting 👍.
