1st Gen IS200 Overheating issue - Cooling system failure

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

Looking for some advice, having an overheating issue where the engine gets up into the red very quickly. Vehicle has been sitting for a few months without being run but wasn't an issue beforehand. When hot, of the two rear cooling pipes (heading into the heater matrix) one gets hot and the other stays cold if this helps. Hoping the issue may just be with the temp sensor, if so do you guys have any advice on changing that out, if not what steps would you recommend for further diagnosis?

Many thanks for the assistance.

If you are competent with basic mechanics I'd start by flushing out the cooling system and changing the thermostat.

Worst case it could be the head gasket.

Check the top hose going to the radiator, is it getting hot? If not the the engine thermostat might be stuck closed.

If the radiator is getting hot, is the electric fan coming on? If not then the fan thermostat might be faulty or the fans/relays faulty:
