 Hi, just a quick question.  Having cam belt changed soon, does anyone know whether you have to have the tensioner changed as well.  Be glad for any advice.  Thanks.

If your gonna get the belt done anyway!

Change the tensioner too!

Its gonna cost no more in labour probably 30p if that! Just an extra 25 quid or so for the tensioner and you dont have to worry for a 100K or 6 years after that!

So do it properly I did and its well worth it!

As tensioners need to be replaced also at some point, why not so it now!

According to my local Lexus Main Dealer, they NEVER change the tensioner and idler  .

But, as above, while the belt is off, you may as well change the tensioner, for peace of mind.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

I have read quite a few cases on here of tensioner wear, which in turn causes cambelt wear. Surely, the main dealers must be aware of this????

I have changed all three and the waterpump on mine! Not worth the risk.

Just seems strange that Lexus Bristol do not change the tensioners!
