Rusty Bonnet Catch

Recommended Posts

Hi

Anyone else had this problem, the D shaped bar on the bonnet that locks down on the bonnet catch is rusting quite badly on a 54 reg sportscross.

Not seen the problems on previous BMW's or on my husbands Alfa (which has teh bonnet open more often to chack if theer is any oil still in it)

Thanks

Mines little more than surface rust, but my BMW had the same problem.

be cheeky and take it back under the corrosion warranty saying that if its a common fault then its obviously not fit for purpose ;) if you don't try it you will never know

They offered to replace the bonnet and respray the car - without quibling, but I decided that cleaning it down, Hammerite it and grease well would be a better solution as its under the bonnet and a respray could cause more problems than It solves.

Older cars were fine and don't have ythis problem but are well greased but when they checked a new one in teh showroom it was showing similar signs, looks like they have stopped greasing them before they leave the factory.

They are also changing all 4 alloys though, bit of bubbling on the inside edge.

Really excellent service.
