The worst I saw was in Oklahoma, USA in 1988 while on vacation visiting family for christmas.

The weekend we arrived it was sunny and warm (around 80 deg F).. then a couple days later, woke up in the morning and went out to the car to find everything covered in 4 inches of ice with temperatures of minus 10F, much like those pics there.

Place is Versoix in Switzerland close to Geneva City on the edge of Leman Lake, -36 deg as attached

We have to cover the car in 'bubble wrap' and heat shrink it.... looks the same as yours though!

On a curious note what temperature was that?.... and what damage could there be to the car 'paint' in particular.

firstly olny 0°C (32°F), the car was colder than the rain and the result is freezing rain. And after some hours it was minus 7°C (14°F)

No damage but a lot of work.

Happens quite often in Continental or arctic air masses in winter time during the passage of a warm front or warm occlusion. The cold air at ground level could be at or below freezing, but the air above is warmer so the precipitation falls as rain, freezing upon contact with a cold surface. It's actually the most dangerous kind of icing for aircraft in flight as well since it forms what is called clear ice on the wings and control surfaces which changes the flow of air over the wings and tailplane, increases weight, and leads to the aerofoil stalling at a much higher speed than it would do normally.

(Those who have pilots' licenses have learned about this kind of risk and how to mitigate it)
