Lexus dealer tells me that cam belt tensioners are prone to slipping causing chipping to cam belt.Car is 38 months old average miles, manual says belt should last 6 years ???? Is this manufacturers fault?

Grateful for any help

i believe the limits in the handbook are only a recommendation and are not a rule.

what caused the dealer to have a look at the cam belt in the first place??

If yours is damaged, then i would suggest contacting lexus to see what can be done and if they will give u a "good will gesture" replacement.

its an interesting one this.......handbook reccomends 6 years or 100K miles (whichever first). IMO, not too many people could clock up 100K in 6 or even 7 years. i think i remember the majority saying that if the cam belt looks fine, don't bother replacing it :duh: mine's coming up for its service soon and its 6 years old this year....but the cam belt looks fine. probably won't bother getting it done this year.

To make a long story short, I imported my lexus from singapore. The toyota dealership is not too happy about imports. They are less than welcoming towards investegations related to imported car parts and prices.

There prices are much more expensive also. It would be cheaper for me to purchase the parts in the US during one of my regular travel there.

I am building a database of part numbers. If I have the part # before hand, It will save a lot of time usually spent standing at the counter of a Customer Service Rep.

thanks............
