Second Gen Head Unit Problem

Recommended Posts

Just had my head unit replaced under warranty cos it sometimes jumped and skipped when playing cd's.

New head unit started doing the same on the way home from dealers, however it only seems to do it with 2 or 3 different cd's in my collection. I was thinking that it must have been the discs that were the problem not the player, then tried the same cd's in my player at home but they play perfect!

Surely a brand new head unit cannot have exactly the same fault as the old?

All CD's are original not CD-R, has anyone else had a problem similar to this with only a couple of CD's?

Ive found that in most cases, the better the CD palyer, the more sensitive it is with discs as ive come across issues with other cd players and this is the only thing I could think of.

Does it happen on CDs towards the last few tracks? Or right from the start

A point worth noting is that (as confirmed by Lexus Croydon), warranty replacements on the CD player are NOT new - they are refurbished/fixed ones. The carcass itself (the front panel) is usually new, so it looks like a new unit.

If you know how, you can simply take the headunit out, and look at the manufacture date on the CD player...

I had this issue, and it was more or less fixed after the 2nd replacement unit (sometimes still happens towards the end of a CD...)

I does seem to happen after about half way through the CD's.

Is it an easy job to remove the head unit to check the date? Will check the forum for tips. Is the date stamp on the back?

Cheers.

They can be new units for the newer style or refurbished ones.
