The sensor works off the tire valves on each tire. You can have them moved to the new rims and tires but get Lexus to do this for you. The valves cost ~£100 each and can be damaged very easily when being removed. This will allow you to use standard tires (non run-flats) with the tire pressure sensors. If you are not bothered about this, then you can get lexus to disable the sensor itself. Also, you should have had or get the valves on your current tires replaced by lexus. This is under warranty as they sometimes get stuck and you cannot add air when the pressur is low. Had mine done 1 month ago. You should have had a letter from Lexus.

As an aside here...did anyone else have the tyre pressure light on recently due to the cold weather?

I parked my SC430 for 3 days and drove off in -2 centigrade and the light only went out after 20 miles of motorway driving, when the tyres warmed up and the pressure increased.

Cheers,

Buzz.

  • 2 weeks later...

My Tire Sensor Light came on once when one of my Run Flats was low on pressure. I added air to match the label on the inside driver side door and the light disappeared. B)

Later after checking out the tires, I noticed they had a max PSI of 44 (not 36). I increased the pressure to 40, and now the Tire Sensor Light stays on all the time. :( I checked the pressure in each tire and they all are at 40.

Anyone else experience this? What is the right pressure for Run Flats?
